  1. So if this is for real- any idea on timing of this being public?
  2. Another commenter, Tim, also mentions Google taking over Tower City. I’d really like to know what’s going on here.
  3. I wonder if any of this would potentially affect the Casino? I thought Gilbert was trying to sell off his Casinos but so far only the Rocksino has been sold. I also have heard rumors (nothing specific) about what is going on at Tower City- and all I can gather is that it is going to be pretty significant. Wish I knew more... I do know that the Residences at Terminal Tower that K&D are adding will soon open the leasing office and have a lot of interest already.
  4. Wow that is actually pretty cool! Cant wait to see it progress. Agree with the above though... not liking that red
  5. Scaffolding up on the Prospect side of the Rose/Medical Mutual Building. Anyone know what this is for? Always thought the upper details could use a power wash.
  6. That would be pretty amazing but I cant help but think this is extremely unlikely, at least with the current makeup of downtown. I wonder, YABO713, if you can ask your source for a bit more info?
  7. Some power-washing going on today, always love to see that!
  8. What??? If a single one of those were true I would be astounded!
  9. Yea this actually has nothing to do with LAND, this was the City & the Mayor. Apparently they still cant find the money for the bollards to replace these monstrosities.

I thought this might be the appropriate thread for this... my company is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan so I spend quite a bit of time there. The downtown area has a nice collection of rather dense historic architecture but I never knew that SO MUCH was destroyed by Urban Renewal. We tend to lament in Cleveland about all that we've lost but this is truly shocking. Take a look at the slideshow: https://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2014/05/urban_renewal_slides.html
  11. I used to work on the 30th floor of One Cleveland Center and the view out that side was always so odd, it literally just drops off. It’s like downtown just ends, most people wouldn’t venture east from here that work in the area except the rare trip to Barristers etc. There’s so much work that needs to be done to bring the scale into what it should be... and this piecemeal Avenue development doesn’t seem to be doing it. I wonder if there’s any possibility of completing the other section of the Avenue tower.
  12. Sure wish the Athletic Club would have done the same. Everyone who lives in PHS must walk in the street around the barricades to get to and from Heinen’s.
  13. Sounds good to me... still can’t get used to the shipping containers and nobody ever seemed to even use them.
  14. The way they have this laid out now reminds me a lot of "Goldman Alley" near the World Trade Center in NYC. Its a cool space lined with shops/restaurants and at one end the Conrad Hotel. Here is the screenshot from the Nucleus flier:
  15. Agree with everyone else... obviously a 54 story tower would be great and exciting... but we have plenty of empty holes where something that size could one day go when it is feasible. I have no issue with this. If we would have seen this first and not known about the grand original plans we would be thrilled That being said, hopefully the design can continue to be improved. Not bad massing but I think the actual design could be better.
  16. Sadly to me the Sterling Welch building was even more unique than the 1255 Building with is large cornice, beautiful glass and metal overhang and inner courtyard. Such a bummer it's gone. Here are some photos including one of both buildings still standing and 1255 with its original facade.
  17. Anyone know if there anything left to the original facade? I look right down at that ugly hole from my apartment... and the patched up wall that collapsed a few years back. Anything is better than what it looks like now. EDIT: Now that I am looking at it we can even add it to the glass block thread ... bottom center
  18. Wow I love this. The big glass windows in the office building rendering remind me of some of the big warehouses on Superior.
  19. Sounds delicious, just hope it doesn’t take away business from Zaytoon on Huron which is also fantastic!
  20. Great view! It’s easy to forget sometimes the magnitude of the Athletic Club, JHB Buildings AND May Co. all being restored at the same time. A few years ago we could’ve only dreamed of this!
  21. Updates from a sunny day! Hard to see from the street what an incredible job they are doing. Beautiful restoration!
  22. Not the best pics but here is the clock!
  23. I don't think the details have come out yet with Millenia having been focused on the Garfield/Key Tower projects. The last few articles I have read about Millenia and Frank Sinito seem to indicate that the 75 PS project will begin relatively soon and we should have more details in the new year. Keep in mind though that he is also now involved with 925 Euclid which is mammoth building project to undertake and I believe they are under a time crunch for that when it comes to the tax credits.
  24. I can say there is indeed a new clock in place, all nicely lit up! And "THE MAY COMPANY" sign atop the building is looking beautifully polished. Wonder if they plan to light up the letters? Unfortunately couldn't get a picture but I will try to take one tonight or tomorrow.
  25. So the clock is actually there?? Pretty sure it was just a blank face not too long ago. We need pics! ?
