  1. The gas station isn't going away but they have been (for at least a year) renovating the interior of the Carnegie Ballroom to become the new Convenience Store, with a couple additional storefronts next to it. I believe they will try to complete the new Convenience Store first, then demo the existing one. I think the broader plan was to renovate the gas station part too but not sure. If the gas station has to stay there, at least it will be a heck of a lot better looking!
  2. A lot of the corridor is still under construction but I did notice that many or even most of the trees were dead or dying the other day. This city just cannot figure out how to care for trees to safe it’s life.
  3. ^ nothing. As far as I know it is just vacant.
  4. So true. Why in the world must this take 20 years?! Grand Rapids is also doing a large expansion that was approved quickly and already under construction. So frustrating here how we have to take years creating a master plan and then do studies and surveys for even more years before anything can even begin … and then it’s done in 17 phases. UGH.
  5. Unfortunately I think a lot of people face this dilemma. There are many who want to ride transit but the endless unreliability, shutdowns, and lack of any leadership or urgency renders the system almost un-useable. I’m not sure what the solution is. I just don’t see the death spiral RTA is in getting any better unless there is a massive overhaul.
  6. Barricades and fencing are now up around the entire surface lot that will be the site of the SHW Parking Garage. West Third to West Sixth and along St Clair.
  7. I noticed that signage the other day, definitely an improvement. The lack of outdoor signage of any kind was always so surprising to me, especially when they actually had stores like Brooks Brothers, etc. Too bad nothing was done until now. I wish they would repair and restore all of the doors facing Public Square... they are tarnished and the decorative elements on top are gone from at least two of the bays. I really hope we find out soon what Bedrock actually has planned, not just this temporary stuff.
  8. Wow is it hard not to be bitterly jealous of their density and architecture 😅
  9. Its going to be some kind of combo sports book place / restaurant / lounge.
  10. They actually have been doing construction or demo inside the Carnegie Ballroom space, and have cut a hole out in the front. Maybe they’re building out the new store first before demoing the existing? Not sure, I definitely see activity but seems to be moving extremely slow.
  11. The added lighting on top is a big improvement at least, I think visually it will have a big impact even if the street level leaves much to be desired. I will say I am a fan of the way-finding designed to look like paint samples... clever, colorful and playful.
  12. https://twitter.com/mjarboe/status/1529171408101728256?s=21&t=9uVJIFGlURUbdFLAE_780w 75 Public Square is 20% leased
  13. This is all very exciting and it will be so interesting to watch this develop over the next few years. One thing that stands out to me in that picture... the AT&T Building is SCREAMING to be redeveloped. I hope something happens there too.
  14. This is a pilot program from DCA to try permeable pavement. If it proves to be successful hopefully it will be expanded! Grand Rapids, MI has utilized this throughout downtown and it has proven to be a success both for safety/trip hazard issues and for the health of the trees.
  15. Wow I can’t imagine going to 200 Public Square to shop. The state of retail downtown continues to be pretty dismal. I always thought there should be a Malleys downtown. Didn’t realize there already was!
  16. An ice cream shop is a great re-use of the original coffee shop space (I believe that is where they plan to put this). I think it will be pretty popular! Glad to see the Rotunda opened up for full activation again
  17. This was the most exciting part of the article to me: ”Bonner said the company would also look at the long-discussed possibility of bringing the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad north from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park into Tower City Center.” this would be a game changer.
  18. Looks like there was an error with calendars leftover from previous admin… Both Lillian and Joyce posted replies to KPJ on Twitter and said they have ensured they will have an accurate count of attendance for the rest of year. Glad to see them explain and speak up.
  19. That’s disheartening. I thought new leadership would change this.
  20. I think the bigger question @KJPand something we probably don't know yet is if any of this work takes into consideration the possibility of CVSR or Amtrak utilizing Tower City as a station... It seems that if this level of investment is happening here, then this is the one chance we have for this to happen.
  21. No project is a certainty until ground is broken - and even then who knows what can happen. Let’s remember City Club- with its numerous false starts and hypothetical groundbreakings- it has finally started and is full steam ahead. We love to speculate here but the truth is no project is a certainty. I think we just need to wait and see what happens, and hopefully it will all work out and proceed in the end! These are experienced developers that have brought projects to fruition. I feel optimistic.
  22. I might be wrong but I believe that reflective coating was added sometime later. If you look at older pictures of the building when it was new it looks like the glass was see through.
  23. I don't believe they are replacing the windows, but removing the reflective coating (which was coming off of several windows) and resealing them.
  24. I fear Ohio is going to totally screw this up.
  25. I am assuming this is for the parade? Maybe they can just 'misplace' them lol
