Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
That structure looks like a 19th-century factory office building, not a house. And it appears to be located within, or just north of the proposed right of way of the Opportunity Corridor. Either way, I suspect it will be demolished. Considering the size/style of the other houses in the neighborhood, it probably was not built as a house. It may have been built at the same time or even shortly before the surrounding neighborhood was built, possibly by the factory owners (which was common for factories to build the housing, or even entire neighborhoods, for their workers). This area along the north-south tracks was first developed with industrial uses during the Civil War (shortly after the C&P rail line was built in 1852) and developed more quickly in the 1870s which is when the Van Dorn Iron Works on the west side of the tracks was built. By the 1880s, when the east-west rail line was built, this was already a flourishing industrial area. Thanks for moving my post and the info. Too bad what became of the area. It always struck me as such an interesting structure that stands out since it is surrounded by rubble.

Cleveland: Opportunity Corridor Boulevard
This probably doesn't belong here so I apologize in advance! I just don't know where to ask. I'm very curious... What is the huge ruin of what looks like a house off from the rapid tracks between 79th and Woodhill? Pulled these from Google maps

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
I have a question. Why are there no ticket machines at light rail stations? Especially major stations like Green, Shaker Sq. Or even Flats East Bank? I know the POP system on the blue and green lines is different than the red but it is very inconvenient. If you want to go from Green rd. to Shaker Sq. Or the waterfront, and you don't have cash, what do you do? If you go to the waterfront you have to get off at Tower City, but a pass, and get back on.

Greenbrier Suite & English Oak Room
I'm sure many have seen pictures of these spaces before but I recently was able to go on a tour of both the Greenbrier Suite and the English Oak Room. Enjoy! Don't mind the awkward people... :-P But I thought it was so interesting that the 12th floor looks just like a normal floor of offices, except for the large old door at the end of the hall. You would never guess what is behind it. The dining room is very light and bright, a big contrast to the rest of the suite, but a result of the 1950's remodel by Betty Draper. The wallpaper is all hand painted and the woodwork, originally dark like the rest of the suite, was painted white. You can see the dark wood has an almost plasticy look to it, and this is a result of the bleaching of ALL the wood in the 1950s renovation. In the 1970's the wood was stained dark again but it wasn't really done properly and now the wood looks the way it does. The board room Another small room Kitchen which was added around the 1940s View out of the window of a side hallway leading to the Great Room I thought this was fascinating! This staircase leads two flights down and into a hallway in the Renaissance Hotel. It was used originally for food service, etc. View out of the Great Room. Interestingly, all the glass is frosted so you can't see outside unless you open the inner windows. Now the English Oak Room. I had never really seen a picture of this before and didn't realize the strong Art Deco theme it had, nor that it used to be an actual restaurant back during the Union Terminal days. The room is AMAZING but difficult to photograph because the lighting is so dim. Hope you enjoyed the tour!

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
Awesome! Keep us updated. I could never understand that hideous building standing alone in a giant parking lot. Hopefully something better is coming

Cleveland: Historic Photos
That IS the Sterling building, as in Sterling Lindner department store. It was built for the Higbee Co. The building between that and the Union Club was the Sterling & Welsh store, which merged with The Lindner Coy both corporately and physically. It was in this building that featured the open atrium where the giant Lindner Christmas tree became an annual tradition. WOW... Thanks, Ive learned something new. That is really shocking... I wonder if it would ever be considered to take off the facade- that is if theres anything left underneath?

Really amazing! And sad. But a question: Ive never seen the two buildings that were between the Union Club and Cowell & Hubbard. Now its a parking lot and the attrocious Sterling Buildling. Specifcally the building fronting Euclid and 13th- so beautiful! What was it?

Cleveland: Downtown Retail Needs
From the article: "We’ve received a great deal of support and encouragement from the business community and residents. And now all kinds of retailers are beginning to express an interest in coming downtown,” he said. “It’s already impacting other decisions.” Say what? Please be specific Mr. Marinucci... :)

Cleveland: Random Development and News
I like that 7-Eleven is/was scoping out downtown. It's been mentioned before as one of those little things that a residential downtown can really use. Lincoln Building revamp builds on demand for parking, apartments in downtown Cleveland By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer on January 14, 2014 at 1:45 PM, updated January 14, 2014 at 1:48 PM What's old is new again for downtown Cleveland's Lincoln Building, where a landlord is adding 200 parking spaces to serve oncoming hotels and drivers in the city's pinched convention-center district. Empty office and storage space in the St. Clair Avenue building, which started its life as parking, will revert to its original use as part of a larger overhaul. Under plans presented last month to the Cleveland Landmarks Commission, the building would hold 540 spaces -- up from roughly 340 today. Those plans also call for renovated storefronts and, in an unusual twist, 17 loft apartments on the top floor. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2014/01/lincoln_building_revamp_builds.html#incart_river_default I'm very interested to see what this might look like... He's not too far off in saying this building is hideous. Situated next to the beautiful Calfee Building and School District Headquarters and the increasingly attractive Westin, this building just looks practically abandoned. Now if they could include that parking lot in the remodel...

It seems like there's a partial shutdown of the rail lines like once a week lately... Maybe I'm wrong. But for people who aren't regular riders the perception of reliability isn't too good.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
I always envisioned a better location (especially if public square is under construction one day) on mall A B and C ... I think that space could be awesome for large events like this but it's never used... The music could be up on the rise on lakeside, the crowd all around in A B and the other side ©. You could utilize taller buildings like the Huntington tower, Key tower, future Hilton etc. for a countdown, fireworks etc. What do you guys think?
