Cleveland: Hotel Development
From Michelle via twitter: "@mjarboe: Signage, entrance work, outdoor dining area, etc. for new Westin/former Crowne Plaza in downtown #CLE on City Planning agenda for Friday." If there are renderings with this we might see what design changes there are. If they're exterior

Cleveland's Tower City Center - declining or realigning to its market?
Great information MTS thanks. Do you happen to know anymore about the Neimans deal? I remember on another thread once there was discussion that there was a letter of intent which still somehow has some legal Relevance even today; not that they're planning to open a store any time soon, I just can't recall the details of this.

Cleveland's Tower City Center - declining or realigning to its market?
This subject has always fascinated me because I never saw Tower City in its heyday. The decline has been talked about over and over and OVER again and I guess at this point it really doesn't matter. After the casino opened there was a flood if rumors that new changes and big name stores were coming but as of yet none of that ever panned out except for some cosmetic changes outside, etc. I'm sure it's been brought up before but i think the casinos influence needs to be observed for a year before retailers will commit. I do wonder though about stories claiming retailers were coming to TC asking for info instead of TC going to them. Now that I go through TC almost everyday I can say its definitely not a dead mall by any means, and I believe the worst is over, so to speak. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what comes about in the future. There's a lot connected to this though, I believe the casino phase 2 and the public square renovation are major impacting factors.

I have a feeling it'll be jam packed. I thought it was going to be bigger but hey maybe the success of this will show others what can be done in DT. how is the subway doing by the casino?

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Sounds good. Love Washington Place and Hodges so if this is as good as those ill be happy. Playhouse square needs more choices... Wish there was new restaurants instead of replacements. Still, I think this will be an improvement over Bricco.

cleveland.com: Cuyahoga County's choice for new headquarters depends, in part, on owning buildinghttp://www.cleveland.com/cuyahoga-county/index.ssf/2013/01/cuyahoga_countys_choice_for_a_new_headquarters_depends_in_part_on_owning_building.html Something is up with cleveland.com right now idk... can only view on my phone but part of this article says: "Some county officials also discounted the 925 proposal because of a plan to save space by filling the grand lobby with cubicles." :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: :wtf: wait- what? That really makes me wonder about Optima....

Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Looks like some new signage is up in the Tower City station to better alert passengers as to whether trains are Green or Blue. It hasnt been activated yet. I usually don't have an issue but got in the Unmarked (as always) center track and found out it was Van Aken. Then went to the Green road train and had a bunch of people realize they needed the blue line. The train almost left THREE times before everyone finally figured out where they were going and the driver never once announced what line it was. The announcer at TC was announcing the correct trains but obviously people weren't listening. There HAS to be a better way, or at least put the dang sign up saying where you are goin!!!! Rant over. Still love taking the rapid. ;)

Wow I can't believe nobody saw that!! I can't wait for this... That corner needs some life! There's definitely going to be a lot of construction downtown within the next few years :) Ps what exactly does a certificate of appropriateness involve?

There are scenarios where skywalks are acceptable or even beneficial, but in general they tend to reduce the foot traffic in the area and discourage walking and pedestrian improvements. In this case, IMO, it would not discourage anything. The people that will be working are going to come from where ever they live (probably a good guess that a vast majority of the employees work from outs side the city border), park there cars in the garage and go to work likely via the skywalk. I feel once a worker has found there parking spot, they will not likely leave to go to lunch and have to deal with coming back to find another parking spot. They will more than likely, if they do not bring there own food, just walk to one of the many close by restaurants. Those coming in for business will likely do the same if they intend on making time to grab a bite (or eventually, I hope, shop in some of the fine retail spaces that will come along Euclid). Once you find a spot to park downtown, one tends to hold on to that for as long as you can, even going back to feed the meter. The Casino skywalk proposal is a different story all together, and i am not in favor of that at all. If I were to be employed by the county in the new building, or live in the tower, the skywalk would be a huge selling point. Not any different than having a home with a garage (in the back of the house, of course... not in the front - hate those :) ) Agree. It's no different than an attached parking garage for an office building. I work at One Cleveland Center and once you park and walk into the office, very few people go back to their car to drive somewhere for lunch. I don't see a problem with this except that the skywalk has to be replaced. Please. :)

Med Mart/Convention Center Hardhat Tour 12-12-12
One small point that was brought out: our convention center is not the biggest and thus there are a small number of conventions we will not get because they are simply too big. Our CC however will be the most high-tech and unique facility there is right now. Putting a dome on the Browns stadium greatly changes our capacity for the large events. Another thing to consider is that we haven't even been ABLE to compete, we weren't even in the running for so many years, that coming back into the market with this much momentum is defiantly a good sign.

I really did not get that impression anywhere, even areas without windows. There is actually a surprising amount of natural light throughout the space. As you mentioned the enormous ceiling height really helps. Thats good to hear, because some of the centers I've listed above, make you feel like you're walking into a subway station. The Lakeside entrance really helps this dilemma; if you look in the pictures you see the entire length is glass with the escalators descending to each side. It acts as a giant window, letting a lot of light down onto the CC floor

Mr Johnson said "Medical Mart" doesn't represent what the facility is appropriately. It makes it sound like a CVS. Not sure yet what it will be but will probably implement terms like "global" and "innovation"

He did mention the transit center and that it's in the works for the future. Obviously we know that, but seeing the complex reiterates how essential that is not only for this but all of downtowns connectivity.

What is more updated? It looks the same as the one in the presentation. Its better looking than the version Loretto shared. But it is the one from the presentation
