  1. So this project isn't expected to be completed (as in residents moving in) until next January apparently (2018). Ugh! Hurry up!!!
  2. Planning commission has already given it conditional approval. They will likely be fine. Though if you feel strongly, you could always write to council when it comes up and say you support the project and are an OTR resident, etc.
  3. Ah yes. The Great Data Crash of 2013. Never forget.
  4. When I read the first sentence of this i was so excited. My hopes were for Bozeman, Jackson and Rutland/Killington. I was disappointed.

the net gain occurs if the two buildings get sold and another company occupies them. Also, we really need the city to incentive transit options and not just parking.
  6. All that matters is the part in bold. haha, I kid. But none of us even saw the plans. None of us are engineers. These guys are professionals. Maybe the issue is simply that the company sent in shitty unclear plans? Maybe they will clear it up now and it will be fine. Maybe they wanted to build a secret villainous lair inside the levy. We just don't know.
  7. I agree about a corner entrance at Court & Walnut.
  8. Well, sort of... He was on for 8 years starting in 93, then came back in 2009. He is termed out this next election.
  9. Wow- The old Convention Center really looks like a lot of municipal and church buildings i grew up with in LA. It especially looks like the Christ Cathedral Arboretum (Formerly the Crystal Cathedral Arboretum, which was the original 1960's building of the church before the more famous 80's glass structure was built).
  10. The ONLY way the City is holding them up is if they are asking for $5 million in subsidy and the City is saying... Ya... no...
  11. The way rail transit works is not everyone gets their own stop to use all the time. Stops are spaced based on a number of factors. I'd agree it should be on 12th at the intersection. I don't disagree that perhaps it could have been built. But it's not being added. If someone has an extra 35K to build a new stop they're way more likely to put that $35K to doing an engineering report on Phase 2.
  12. What is the $2 million request at 12th and Walnut?!?! That's a large request and I can't think of something at that location in need of a major renovation that could be so big. Ideas?
  13. These are all under the control of Urban Sites and 3CDC.
  14. The bengals definitely do, I think the Reds don't get as much (their lease deal is different and less egregious).
  15. Kansas City's streetcar is great in part because it is a perfectly straight line on the same street. IT WORKS. The idea that you have to be spaced by a block isn't a hard and fast rule. The other thing about Kansas City line, is that it's FAST. we have so many turns and lane changes and they have virtually none. There is a benefit to speed (and frequency).
  16. If you talk to Portland, they say the number one mistake they made was going, "Oh! we need a stop for this business, and a stop for this business!!!" Now they consider their first phase to be too closely spaced with stops. Adding stops is a silly idea. Perhaps in a perfect world we would have had them spaced differently, but no one knew a Shakespeare theater was going in or that an abandoned church was going to get renovated to an event space. Let's stop being silly people. No stop's should be added and none will be removed.
  17. It was not funded w tax dollars. It was done with revenue from the lot on Woodward, which must use a certain portion of its revenue to fund public upgrades in the area. Yes, one new street lamp will be placed there. Will it be all alone for a while? yes. Is this a great way to use limited funds to make incremental progress? yes.
  18. I completely agree that Camp Washington should be a huge boom for apartments. Amazingly, I've seen development folks say "who would want to live in camp washington, it's not near anything".. Actually, it's the PERFECT location to be close to a lot of things but cheaper and calmer. Bike to Northside, bike to OTR, down the hill from Clifton, etc. The Crosley building is slated to become 220 apartments by Core after SCPA opens. They are working on financing now.
  19. KC Streetcar is officially free for "one year". Busses were free on the opening weekend.

Here's why this Hyperloop non-sense is super foolish. 5 years? come on. $6 billion? are you serious? NEIGHBORS AND PROPERTY OWNERS will shut this thing down. you can't buy the needed real estate in CA for $6 billion, let alone build a transit system. The CAHSR has been slowed down so much by lawsuits over property rights, etc. Plus, since it's gonna be privately owned you can't use eminent domain in most places.
  21. Commercial airlines to Chicago are roughly $400 round trip. If you are aware of the quality difference in flying charter vs commercial you will realize that for business travelers, etc. the $150 premium is NOTHING. The Chicago price is VERY competitive.
  22. I am so happy this project is dead for now. I'm not opposed to tolls, I AM opposed to the horrific super sized 20 lane highway boondoggle that was going to take away hundreds of parcels of tax producing properties, demolish 30% of Longworth Hall and cost a fortune.
  23. If you haven't read Caseyc[/member]'s piece from 2009 on the Terrace you should. http://www.soapboxmedia.com/features/01006terracehotel.aspx
  24. Love that he owns the building now though! That area is about to blow up. Two way conversion probably going to happen in 2018, the Anthem site will likely have a lot of work going on at the time then too, allegedly adding several hundred residential units.
  25. Cincinnati has 44 foot right of ways curb to curb. We are NEVER moving curbs inwards on downtown streets to widen roads. Your proposal only shows 50' right of ways curb to curb.
