  1. Those are still the worst names ever. I live in Vine Phase 3! Shirley there's a better name. For example... Short@TheVine Corry Commons Flats ATSHORTVINE Commons at Corry VP3O Ok... I'm not being serious...
  2. They've actually already begun working on VP4, a name, which makes no sense, btw. VP3 was Vine Public Private Partnership. VP4... who knows....
  3. Oktoberfest is in the opening month. I have a feeling they may prefer to just have it shut down and figure things out for next year. No one wants to risk anything if they don't have to. Taste is in May, by then the Streetcar will be at 8 months of operating, perhaps they would be willing to try something different for year one.
  4. This entire scandal was made up. The Operating Agreement between the City & SORTA already says it can be closed down for 4 events of 3 days in length per year. It's almost a guarantee it will close down for the first Oktoberfest & the first Taste of Cincinnati. Let's just let it go... But in year 2 or 3, I predict everyone will see a value in this, and they'll be willing to adjust to make this a workable solution. Heck, they may actually be asking, please don't stop service, what can we do to help.
  5. THIS IS KEY. These pretty much exclusively help Cities. West Chester doesn't have any historic buildings... So it's a good thing they haven't gone after them.
  6. I dont understand how these will be good. It seems as though this is what suburbanites think of Cities are for. A place to visit and get drunk in, throw up and piss on the side of someones condo, and then take a cab back to suburbia. Over-the-Rhine is on record opposing an open container district in its boundaries. I think you will end up with one at the Banks, and supposedly Short Vine near UC, which I also don't see a benefit to.
  7. ^ Because the state has a set pot of money. Say $20 million. And $50 million in applications come in. So that's why the state can't award all of them. Ideally, The legislature would increase the total amount.

The transit line isn't blocked. The parcel received a transportation overlay. Relax everyone.
  9. I think that exact same picture is on page 12 of this thread :)
  10. I don't think any of it is new construction, but I could be mistaken. The one larger vacant lot is parking now.
  11. Eli's at the market has been the biggest disappointment. Virtually 0 signage, they always look closed, and they are carryout only.
  12. It's because traffic engineers are convinced that Elder & Findlay must both be one way streets or the world will collapse because traffic. Just like Main & Walnut are each one way streets when they should be two-way.
  13. You absolutely can't make up that The Sub Galley -- one of the sleaziest establishments to be found anywhere in the United States -- was replaced by some place called...Dive Bar. I still can't get over the fact that somebody actually named a new, mild-mannered bar "Dive Bar", especially when it replaced a place where crack was smoked in full view. So Meta.
  14. It should remain a pedestrian bridge, and people should have revolted when the state wanted to get rid of it. Since when does a Transportation department not maintain foot traffic? Just because cars aren't on it doesn't mean it the state shouldn't maintain it for the taxpayers who use it.

Correct. Which is why I hate when people talk about how Cities shrunk from 2000-2012 (Several reports lately). 2000-2007 was a suburban boom. Hence the housing bubble. 2008-2010 was a recession. Cincinnati's renaissance has actually been about 2010 to today. Think of OTR in 2009. Just BARELY getting its roots in. Walnut Hills... even Northside. A friend of mine canvassed Northside for Obama in early 2008, then was blown away in 2012 when he spent more time there.
  16. Not sure if it's been mentioned here yet, but Johnny Rockets officially closed.
  17. It's super super rare and I'm certain they will do a report as described in the motion Nothing to worry about.
  18. ^ Correct. 1 million rides at $1 per fare does not equal $1,000,000. Metro assumes to receive around 62 cents per ride when including all the discounts etc. There are other things like when someone uses their monthly metro card, the streetcar gets a certain amount of money (something like 30 cents), and if a Tank rider uses their pass Tank pays Metro a certain amount of money (again, something much less than $1 per ride).
  19. I hate to be the topic police, but I think there's somewhere else for this discussion (which is a good discussion and should continue!) In streetcar news, Deatrick said the goal is to have Walnut repaved by the Allstar game all the way from CP to 3rd (which was previously not the plan, would have been done in the fall) and to have Main Street rail to 6th by the All Star game. There will be no construction for the entire week of the festivities. Streetcars will be on the streets being tested by early October.

After spending a weekend in Denver being blown away at the amount of construction (a local pointed to the skyline and said, "The state bird of Colorado is the crane"), this set makes me happier- We may not have a ton of 20 story apartment buildings going up downtown, but we do have a lot of great development happening all around our core.
  21. Wow. You really have to mess up for that to happen. Guessing he didn't even apply for permits
  22. In daytime photos the Atlanta streetcar (green purple & blue) is beautiful. But transit vehicles are benefited by being more visible at night. Ours will be quite reflective/visible.

Can someone post a map of exactly where this taxpayer boondoggle goes?
  24. This idea is something about native Cincinnatians that has driven me nuts since I moved here. There's this assumption that things we do that are weird are unique, and not simply things that everyone does. IRS, FDA, SEC, NCAA, NAACP, LoDo, WeHo, MoCA, SoHo, DUMBO, NoHo, LOL, TriBeCa, The GWB, SoMa,NoLita, SoBro... The list goes on. It has nothing to do with Cincinnati. It's just an American thing. We like nicknames and abbreviations.
