  1. That Kroger will close after the new one opens in Corryville (so around 2017). Ideally, it would be torn down and a similar development of street facing infill will take its spot.
  2. Is it just me or do the new widened sidewalks on Short Vine look horrendous...
  3. HE IS NOT ON BOARD. Last year he said he supported the streetcar too and people all cheered on this board. Winburn is the biggest political sleaze there ever was. He does not support the streetcar and will never bring a dollar to it. Just a couple days ago he said it was one of the worst projects ever.
  4. The bar in the building south of Salazar will be 4EG location, a smaller than Lackman Lackman. Goal is to have it just be a simple neighborhood bar since Lackman on Friday & Saturday nights becomes a touristy spot. Also, I've heard the storefront at 13th and Republic will soon become some sort of wine bar, fancier place.
  5. Ya, it's not quite clear. Utility work will definitely continue in some spots. John Deatrick in a streetcar presentation for the transportation committee said it's part of the "seasonal stoppage of major construction projects in downtown". OTR related work, like the green to Elder lane change will likely continue, but the CBD seems to have "major projects" halted to help holiday shoppers. It's strange and seems outdated and ridiculous. We've had summer weekends with WAY more people than come down in December but construction doesn't stop.
  6. So-- I have a tragic and sad revision to my Streetcar timeline. Unfortunately, the Streetcar will stop all downtown track work around Nov 1 and begin again after the new year. It's part of some annual effort to reduce road construction downtown during the holidays, which seems to date back to some time when downtown was packed during the winters (the way Kenwood is a madhouse in December). Things have changed though, and downtown isn't a department store mecca like it was 40 years ago. Instead, the Summer is most certainly the busiest time of year (probably May-July) yet construction can go at full pace. So, with that- here is the updated construction Schedule: Streetcar track will be completed to the intersection of 6th Street by the first week of November. Elm St from Henry to Elder will be completed by the end of October. Also, Race, between 12th and Green will be repaved this month. Walnut from 6th to 3rd will occur in January 2015 and is expected to be finished by the end of February 2015 pending weather. Main Street will likely begin in late Jan 2015. Originally, construction was going to travel North ending at 12th, but apparently now that will depend on utility work and could go either way.
  7. Jobs & family services/alms & doepke would be amazing condos or apartments.
  8. Chain's existing help local businesses get financing. Banks see a chain nearby and say, well clearly their market research showed this was a good investment. A Starbucks in OTR would lead to a significant increase in capital access for local businesses.
  9. Charlie is running for state rep in a district that is 30+ Dem. It's one of the most democratic in the state. He's saying these things to get elected.
  10. It's a small storefront downtown. It's the old Play/Lodge Bar. Where would they find room? Yes, four is small, but it's four or 0. So if they can make it work with 4 great.
  11. Photo from today: Tracks almost to 7th.
  12. I've been using it all weekend and luckily haven't had any trouble (I check the app before I leave a station to see how full the other ones are). A few times people arrived and a station was full, but usually within a couple minutes someone else checked one out. Or, if you were at 12th & Vine and its full you can ride to Kroger or to Main. Also, I saw the truck driving around at all hours into the night (last sighting was 11PM) rebalancing stations. Also, it's the same app for all B-cycle places, so I already had it on my phone from a recent Denver trip.
  13. 3 days without a post! Has that ever happened before? Tonight at 7PM 8th street will be closed for the entire weekend for the 8th Street pour, reopening early Monday Morning. The first week of September still had 1 week left in the Central Parkway to 9th St construction. At the end of next weekend there will be track all the way to the 7th street intersection. That means they went from 9th to 7th in 3 weeks. Things will get more complicated now as they get further into the core and the blocks are longer, but assuming a slightly slower 2 blocks in 5 weeks schedule, the Streetcar track will be entirely laid through to the beginning of the 5th street intersection by the end of October. Assuming an even slower more conservative speed of 6 weeks for the blocks of 5th to 3rd street (potentially crappier weather, increased delays etc.) we could be seeing rail all the way to 3rd Street by mid December. The section on Race from Henry to the north side of Findlay market should be done in about 3 weeks as well. I'm not sure of the timeline on the Findlay Market to Green Street section that is also not finished. That would be the first lane change to be finished. Streetcar will go from right against the curb to left lane there (transition of 3 lane widths). There is also a lane change on Main at Government Place (same thing, 3 lane width transition). I'm not counting the Central Parkway lane change because that goes into a transit only lane.
  14. They weren't really renderings, more like detailed massing. The proposal was the tall version with a tower on the north side of the block. Don't have details on the meeting, just saw a glimpse of the image.
  15. Hold on Everybody, let's clear something up. The tower and the building on the corner that has the CVS are actually two separate buildings with two separate owners, despite the fact that they have one solid facade wrap. W&S is going to rehab into 60 apartments the tower and storefront that currently has a hair salon type store. NOT the 3 story corner building that has the CVS. That is a different owner. I'm wondering if they will remove the facade as part of the renovation.
  16. We like to pretend Mt. Airy is the largest urban park in the country, but let's be real. it's not even close. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_urban_parks_by_size
  17. The garages on levels 2-4 are designed to become office in the future. Starting in year 5 of the completed building, dunnhumby can buy floor 4 for office conversion for something like $180K from the City/3CDC. there is some rule that they have to wait a few more years before they can buy back floor 3 and then floor 2. It's possible in 10 years those 3 floors would be office. They are entirely designed for the conversion to occur and Dunnhumby certainly plans to buy them if they are still growing as quickly as they currently are in 5 years.
  18. The fact that this proposal has OTR at 3X as expensive as the most expensive City in America for public parking, San Francisco, which is also the most expensive City in america, is foolish. You fail to realize this will not create the urbanist dream we all would love. It will mean more garages being built, more demolitions for garages and fewer vacant lots being developed unless there is a garage. I live in OTR and pay $250 a year for secure gated guaranteed parking. The idea that parking on the street in a non guaranteed, unsecured spot for more than what I currently pay for a gated lot wouldn't work in San Francisco, but would work in OTR where we have almost no transit options is foolish. If you live in OTR & work in Blue Ash you are going to need a car. That is unfortunately true. Not all of us can walk to work (as I thankfully can)
  19. ^ I completely disagree and am going to read that as though you don't know all the facts. Stough bought the building to tear it down and build a parking lot. ON A BLOCK THAT ALREADY HAS TWO PARKING LOTS. If Stough gets their way, the block will be three parking lots. The Main Street entrance to OTR will be one block that is 100% parking lots. That is disgusting. 3CDC may "hold on to it for a couple years" only doing the basic stabilization until they have a plan, but does anyone here think that is worse than tearing it Down in December (Stough's goal). They aren't even allowing anyone to make realistic bids on the building because they are requiring these crazy agreements to be signed before even negotiating.
  20. ^ I think you will be proven wrong. Cranley wants this to be an ugly mess to use in his Strong Mayor initiative next year and for the Council special election. He has in no way over the last year shown a willingness to "move forward" on the streetcar. Heck, two weeks ago he advocated for $400 permit parking in OTR. Why would he suddenly change?
  21. Those streetcar tracks look exactly the same as what we're building (turn from 12th to Main). Hopefully this progress inspires Hanke not to demolish the Furniture building.
  22. I used it 3 times today (bought annual membership). Counted 12 other people other than myself riding while I was riding. Incredibly convenient. I will say, they are gonna need to do a lot of maintenance. Consistency between bikes is dramatically different. Some have great breaks, some have horrible breaks, some the seats stay, others the seats sink. Will be interesting to see how well they do with upkeep.
  23. ^ Me too. If you can't make that hotel work without subsidy than why are we even bothering to build anything. *over the top but you get my point
  24. ^ Very suburban, but here's the deal. It's gonna get built somewhere. It's just a fact of life unfortunately. I'd rather have it in the City than in Deerfield township.
