Gas was 1.80 during metro moves and no one (regular people) saw that changing. That's just one reason though of course...

And considering there is 0 chance of an arena going at the corner of Central Pakway & plum as seems to be the top location on this thread) the riverfront or UC's campus is most likely (unless Kentucky goes all out for a team and for some reason puts it in Nky over Louisville. The central parkway location borders single family home zoning and has no where near the appropriate parking. It doesn't fit into the character of that are either.

Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
Condos are already selling from $150-300,000 and single family homes are selling for $300-700,000. That seems pretty pricey to me!!

For our market, 19,000 would be perfect. Pretty sure USBA holds 15,000.

^ Vacancy rates are also at an all time high.... It's hard to justify building a 20 story building when there is a 20 story building at 6th & Walnut that is 75% empty. Along with many others that are 20-30% empty. It's simple market economics. Do they wait ANOTHER 10 years for some magical high rise, or build an 8 story mid rise that dramatically improves the street level density in the neighborhood, provides a great place for the fastest growing business in downtown & add 150 new residents. If there was enough demand I'm sure another business would have said, wait! We want to be the anchor tenant in 2 more floor, etc. But no one is just going to build that with current vacancy rates. I'm ok with the current plan. Not thrilled to build an 8 story tower here, but it's fine. It will be good. Also- related to companies who have left, some left because they WANT suburban style office campuses. Cincinnati has virtually NO suburban style office areas(keystone, Oakley Station, Xavier park[eventually]), and it's a simple fact: some businesses prefer them.

^ they're Being sued by the owners of the land upon which the Chiquita building sits, citing the 62 year lease signed in 1985 that prohibits signage on the building. They're also suing Nielsen & the city of Cincinnati. The owners of the land (not building) are car dealers who owned an Oldsmobile dealership that was previously on the site. They also own the giant parking lot that covers almost an entire city block at 7th & sycamore and own another large surface lot on 9th. They moved their dealership to Symmes township after leasing the downtown land for the skyscraper. Columbia Something is the name of their company, hence the original name of the building, the Columbia Center.

Cincinnati: Evolution and Changing Perceptions of Urban Neighborhoods
Seconding everything everyone other than CityBlights said. Hell, I feel safer walking all around Vine north of liberty over to Elm and mcmicken than I do walking around Lower Price Hill, Roselawn, the West End or walnut hills. Ive just spent so much time there I know no one is gonna bother me- I recognize the people hanging out. Etc. I honestly dont think city blights has been to OTR in several years.

Completely disagree with the idea we should not expand our convention center. If anyone works in events around town they know the Convention center is maxed out due to its size. Events call Cincinnati but say, never mind, too small. And that colombus arguement is bizarre. Cincinnati's Metro is significantly larger. Very few places say, let's go somewhere where we draw less because it's centralized. We have potential to draw MORE with Lex, Lou, Indy, Day, and Cbus all in at most 2 hours. Cbus can't draw that many people in that short of a drive, BUT they have the bigger facility so they get the conventions.

Cincinnati: Demolition Watch
OCtoCincy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and Preservation^ blue whisp jazz club moved to 7th & Race. That demolition didn't break my heart, not a historic building and not the best use of the land anyway. Wasn't aware of the Walnut Hills demos. Sad

^ uh, ya. It's not like I called 911. I called the Banks police welcome center and they had someone walk around (its across the street) and look and then come back. 5 minutes of work or ignore the possibility that scrappers or homeless people moved into a vacant store front and potentially caused damage.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
