Cincinnati: General Transit Thread
Ya-- I'm glad they didn't plan any more of the Interstate Highway System until they had built one small portion of it and let that exist for several years. Surely just because the Interstate Highway System had small sections built earlier in some states, it would never work all over. Maybe you should just stop commenting on this forum if all your comments are going to be negative and add nothing to the conversation. What does that comment add? You are saying-- "Stop all planning and discussion of anything regarding to rail for the next 4-5 years." Why? What is the downside in looking ahead and planning- Just like what we did with a total "boondoggle" plan to replace all of our good functioning state routes and local highways with massive expensive roads connecting the SAME areas but at an unimaginable expense. (I'm pointing out the popular criticism of the time).

Are you serious? You're driving me nuts. Your comments add nothing of value to this entire forum. These are architecture plans. Of course its confusing to someone who is not an architect/planner and was not at the meeting where they were talked through. The Planning commission is the specialized group that deals with major development plans (totally simplifying their purpose for this conversation). I guarantee the government entity that approves the union place development or whatever in West Chester will look at the same type of images, since they were designed and put together by the private for profit developer who is building this. Additionally, in the private sector the plans for building a new skyscraper ARE NOT supposed to be able to be read by Joe Average. And you are ok with that- but as soon as a government entity expects to hold its planners up to a high standard you go "No wonder blah blah blah! A regular person can't read this and things are only good if someone with no specialized education can follow it!"

I just wanted to say-- having finally watched the video, John Schneider's brick went the farthest by FAR! Way to go John! I bet you've been looking forward to flipping that brick for that for a long time :)

Cincinnati: Downtown: 84.51°
We should Agreed- We should WANT a successful covington & Newport. They should be complements to Downtown & OTR and not adversaries. I'd rather have 100 jobs go from WestChester to Covington than stay in WestChester. And I'd rather have 400 people go from Erlanger to Newport than stay in Erlanger. Of course, I'd rather have all that come to Cincinnati, BUT The urban core of Greater Cincinnati includes Cov. & Newport so we should want them to do well. People living in Covington are more likely to come to Downtown to spend money than people living in Erlanger. The suburbs probably love the infighting between the urban NKY & urban Cincy. And I agree- 10-15 stories at this site is fine in my opinion. With office vacancies at an all time high I'm not to concerned that the office portion won't be much larger than 250,000 Sqft. Also- 160-200 units of res for this site would be good as well. With 300 more at Banks starting this summer/fall, 88 opening at fourth and race and 250 more units in OTR beginning construction this Spring we're on pace to add over 1000 new units to downtown & OTR within the next 2 years and will likely far surpass that. I still feel that the large parking lot at between 7th & 8th at Sycamore is PERFECT for a high rise residential only tower of 20-30 stories.

Cincinnati Skywalks
^huh?!?!. Downtown 10 years ago to today is incomparable. The city has widened quite a few sidewalks downtown, removing entire lanes, and street level places are much more full than just a few years ago. And finally- Indianapolis was NOT chosen because of a skywalk system. The NFL does not care about a skywalk system. They cared that the stadium was new, has a roof, and there were enough nice hotel rooms & a good airport.

Model is also adding 75 units of low income housing to Pendleton.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
^ It is good, but it should be known that North Rhine Heights is a low income project Model is doing that will yield 75 units of affordable housing. No market rate component to the project.

That's true. And thankfully, in a few years our response can be STREETCAR! Definitely look forward to that. Also- I think the streetcar should be part of the Findlay Market parade. Who wants to help build a 1/4 sized paper mâché streetcar before opening day? (16 feet long, 2 feet wide, 3 Foot tall)

There are SO many vacant properties south of Liberty. As much as it's nice to fantasize, Jimmy James is right. You could spend 5 years making the Gateway Quarter great before crossing liberty. 3CDC has on multiple occasions stated they are not interested in crossing liberty at this time. There are so many properties north of Liberty; I would love to see someone else begin working on them since 3CDC has years of work to do south of liberty before even considering moving north.

The eastern corridor project is Portunes baby. He is upset that the state has dramatically cut funding for it and he blames the City since they wouldn't support competing TRAC applications for two Cincy transit projects, one that was shovel ready and the other which was 4-5 years from beginning any sort of construction. Also- it frightens me that he doesn't realize the Streetcar goes to the STAIRCASE that leads to the transit Center. Also- frightfully ignorant that he would defend the idiotic MSD position. The City was going to pay for half the cost of replacing 110 year old sewer pipes which will NEED to be replaced within the next 10 years. Now it will cost ratepayers MORE to replace them since the streetcar will be on top.

$306,000 for emergency things. Yikes
-
Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Just to be safe- EVERYONE should email Portunes office right now. [email protected] Just a couple sentences about why he should support the streetcar. Don't even mention the OKI money, seriously, (in case its not even true) just say you support the streetcar and hope he does to.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
It here are more car break ins in OTR and downtown than around the Banks. Plus. Unless people are literally watching those and not being able to call 911 on their cell phone, not sure what benefit these things will have on combatting car breakins

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
So back to the emergency beacons- that's really disappointing. They put a police station in the Banks, there is no crime down there, and they want to add emergency things like you'd have on a college campus?!

^ Centerville UT is not BFE. It's one of the wealthiest suburbs of already wealthy Salt Lake City. Additionally, it's a 12 hour drive from the CA In n Out distribution plant. The only reason they moved to Texas was because they agreed to build a whole knew distribution plant outside of Dallas. RockyMountainHigh is right. 0 chance. Sigh...

I'm not a fast food eater, but McDonalds is literally the worst quality, and Jack in the Box is often rated one of the best. After the mad cow issue 15 years Ago they started all kinds of increased quality control. Still, not sure if the banks is the right place for any fast good joint. Although its true that we should increase price point options.
