Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
John, I can't tell if you were actually rating them in order of support as OTR asked, but if you were, I disagree greatly. I would say: Qualls Quinlivan Seelbach Riveiro Take active positions on the campaign trail that I am aware of. I think Simpson & Hollan do as well, but I haven't seen them advocate in person.

Mallory is pissed at Sittenfeld. The Dems endorsed Pat Fischer and he was against everything the mayor was for.

I'm pretty sure there is 0% chance that the money would be revoked.

I don't think 8th and state actually lives in Cincinnati anymore... You do realize that in about 3 years there won't BE any more surface lots, and there area already only 3 left.. As of November, Freedom way will be a street that goes from one stadium to the other. a beautiful, brick and tree lined street.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Given how inaccurately the local media has covered the project so far, why would they cover this any better? I sincerely doubt that they would. Again, with all the logistics involved to pull off such a "stunt" and given how it doesn't reflect the actual streetcar project it's probably not worth the time. It has been shown that the streetcar isn't a "toonville trolley," we had one on display. You could go see it for yourself. It's true- Even when the Streetcar was on Fountain Square, Channel 5 showed a picture of an old school trolley during the opening of the segment, then played footage of the modern day streetcar, then went back to the picture of the old school trolley while the news anchors talked about the streetcar in the newsroom. If they're going to show pictures of little trolleys while covering a modern day streetcar on fountain square, then there is seriously no point to wasting millions of dollars trying to make a fake display streetcar that goes back and forth to no where. Plus, Leslie Ghiz FREAKED OUT that the city spent $3,000 having police guard the display streetcar- Imagine what she'd do if we had some silly display one going back and forth on the riverfront.

You'd have to get a waiver from the Federal Railroad Administration to run the streetcar on the railroad tracks by the boathouse, and you have to get cooperation the private railroad company which owns those tracks (the Indiana & Ohio Railroad Corp., I believe) that will not run anything on their tracks at pre-arranged times that the streetcar would be operating. It's time-consuming but not impossible to get an FRA waiver, unless the I&O RR doesn't want to relinquish control of their tracks for operating or insurance reasons. Then it is impossible to get. Also... It's pointless. and won't go anywhere. And the streetcars themselves won't be delivered for about a year...

Seelbach is rumored to be around $75,000. Hollan is rumored to be around $15,000. While democrats do need less than republicans to win, these are pretty low numbers when you look at 2009 and 2007 for democrats. Not the best news for Streetcar supporters...

Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
Now in 13th with 6,294 votes... This will be a tough one to win as Soudan Underground Mine State Park is blowing away all of the competition with a whopping 204,932 votes. No email address is needed to vote. It's just a matter of clicking and refreshing. Don't mean to be a debbie downer, but open polls like this don't really mean anything, and the $100,000 is negligible to the budget. If it were to win $1,000,000, it would be worth it to coordinate voting. ^ I completely disagree- $100,000 will go a long way! People went nuts over OTR getting $25,000- When the City Parks have lost $2.5 million in 3 years in funding due to city budget cuts, every $100,000 goes an incredibly long way.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
^ The first urban project they did was Westfalen lofts. This is the second, but yes, most of their work has been suburban. I don't know anything about the dayton project, but they've done a lot in the cincinnati northern suburbs as well. Basically, they are adding 4 more units (same exterior build out as Phase 1) immediately across the street from Phase 1, and 3 more at the corner of 15 & Pleasant.

The 7 new townhomes at City Home (pleasant st) are going up quickly. the three at Pleasant & 15th are in framing for the second floors. John Hueber Homes is doing the interiors of the new 7. They should be a bit different from the original 5 homes. 3CDC also owns the abandoned building in the distance of that photo.

Since there will be an anti-streetcar amendment on the ballot, I think it's CRUCIAL that groundbreaking begin before the election. If we've had 6 weeks of construction, and people see cones, workers, etc. there will be a massive energy about the project that will propel a defeat of the charter amendment. John, Any news on this??

Hey Everyone-- Speaking of donating- If you're a political junkie, you know that tonight at midnight is the financial filing deadline for all candidates. The highest fundraisers will get lots of media attention and every $ counts. Never think a $25 contribution doesn't do much. To be helpful, I've added the websites to all the non-incumbent pro-streetcar candidates. Consider giving $25 or more to any of the Streetcar 9 tonight before midnight. ^ I'm under the impression the casino has an option to build a new hotel after X years on the land next to the casino. Something along those lines- I remember hearing about it in a council committee meeting that had a casino rep and some Bridging Broadway people speaking.
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
^ I think the hotel is just as likely NOT to happen for a long time. The Hampton Inn Just opened in Corryville, the Residence inn just opened downtown- 21C will open next fall, and there are approved plans for a hotel at 7th and Broadway. Then, there are loose plans for a hotel at the Banks, and at U Square. Am I the only one who thinks Cincy might be going overboard with all the new hotels in the urban core?

Cincinnati: Pendleton: Hard Rock Casino Cincinnati
Radical conservatives don't believe in law. Just collective security, which isn't "law" in the sense that most people here think about government. At least Kasich isn't anti Casino Radical conservatives don't believe in law. Just collective security, which isn't "law" in the sense that most people here think about government. Compared to Strickland, who was not in favor of any Casinos, he isn't that bad. ^ This statement is a logical fallacy. Strickland was against the amendment, but once it was in place, he was obeying it 100%. Kasich, while we don't know if he was against it to begin with or not, began to DISobey the will of the voters. To say Kasich is better because he may or may not have disagreed with the language in 2009 does not apply to him being "better" than the constitution following Strickland. ----- Back to reality- I like that they did that video, I'm amazed at the number of people who have yet to understand the Casino site.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Holiday Inn
Was just thinking the same thing- Council approved it. Haven't heard anything since.
-
Cincinnati: Downtown: Smale Riverfront Park
^ I think this line of thinking is a bit too hopeful. One might have said the exact same thing about the stadiums 10 years ago. Or Sawyer Point, Friendship park, refurbishment of Ault Park, etc. It's gonna take generations of reeducation to change said view.

And then there's the fact that businesses cant contribute to candidates... And nearly every downtown business PAC has given to streetcar candidates in 2009.

Well, that's because it's not actually open :) It was supposed to be open by now- There were a few days earlier this month when you could just walk right in, but now, on both sides, there are fences closing it off.

Sounds good to me!!! 3 years of work and 1 year of campaigning is a lot better than 1 year of work 1 year of campaigning.
