^ I'd love for it to be a tower too... but I know that there is a tower planned for 5th and Race, and one 20+ story residential tower at a time is all this city can handle. Additionally-- There are much larger lots just to the southeast of the site that could grow... I just don't see any modern developer building a flat iron on that small of a triangle. They would have to put a garage underneath it, it would be way too complicated.

^ I'm not totally sure-- I think they are subsidiaries? UrbanInnovations does the building-- They are a developer. UrbanSites is a property manager.

Cincinnati: Monthly Parking in Gateway Quarter
^ some streets, like most of Walnut, some of 13th and 14th that have no storefront retail shouldn't have meters. On treets with store fronts it makes sense-- but not everywhere! The fact that we've metered all these streets almost forces developers to tear down a building to ensure more parking (or at least pass up on infill development options).

That's great-- These properties all surround Biff's, an shady establishment that is famous for the red lights in its upstairs windows and the frequency of police being called/showing up for small disturbances. I have a friend who lives across the street- she says it really brings the block down.

While it's open now-- many blogs have been saying that due to ______'s divorce (I can't believe I'm forgetting his name right now), he may looking to liquidate his restaurants. Lavomatic will probably be bought by several of the current managers/chefs, but we'll see if someone comes up to keep Grammars operating.

^ there are plans for a hotel between 7th and 8th at Broadway and construction is expected to start this year-- It's only about .2 miles from the casino site (across from the KZF design building) so while it's not related, it will definitely draw on the casino crowd.

It has a stage built into it, so it's more of an event lawn-- Just to be clear-- you guys aren't saying that you propose keeping the triangle parking lot as a parking lot instead of a flexible event space, are you?? With it's location- and since it seems to be owned by the county, I doubt anyone will be building a beautiful flat iron there in the next two years (just like the last 20 years where it was a parking lot). I'd much rather see that space turned into pedestrian friendly plaza where events can happen throughout the summer, etc. then be used as a 100 space parking lot.

Gateway Garage (sometimes referred to as kroger garage) is $90 a month. The lot at 12th and vine is $70 a month.

As many of you know-- 12th has those overhead thick grey powerlines even though it received new lighting a year ago or so. At a transportation (and walkability or something) committee meeting last week, Michael Moore said that there are some areas where they have more trouble than others putting lines underground. He said 12th street was an area that had been more difficult than others (hence the continued overhead powerlines). I saw duke energy up there accessing the overheads. I can't wait for them to disappear!

^ Just so you know-- that open space is designed by assuming the closing of Broadway, widening of Eggeleston (to allow for two way traffic on that street) and the triangle plot of parking currently there to be turned into a green space.

^ agreed--Does anyone know how the city can create tougher penalties against vacant land owners?

Cincinnati City Council
^ Is this true? I'm not disputing you, but that's a HUGE amount of money-- Laurie Quinlivan for example, raised something around $70,000 in '09. I'd never heard that anyone had spent $300K on a council race before- but I could be mistaken!

It never came up in the interview. We were referencing Smitherman's statement: “We haven’t gotten an answer on if the streetcar’s going to operate in the black. If it doesn’t, if it operates in the red, who’s going to pay for that?” It never came up in the interview Huh? I think you're misunderstanding. We're talking about the article- That was a quote- We're saying editorially the writer could have said something to the effect of: "While traditional modes of transportation such as interstates, roads and highways do not produce any revenue, Smitherman was insistent that the streetcar cover all of its costs, “We haven’t gotten an answer on if the streetcar’s going to operate in the black. If it doesn’t, if it operates in the red, who’s going to pay for that?”'

Does I-75 operate in the black? Do Street repairs operate in the black? Silly concept- I do wish they would have challenged that.

^ I wish that article would mention the 10 year ban after Smitherman's defense of, "we're not against the streetcar..." 'we just don't think this is the right time' (paraphrased).

The most recent talk is: If the Environmental review goes well, they can start right when it finishes (goal of late feb/early march). Potentially it could take longer- but that is the part of the process we are in.
