  1. I tend to disagree and agree at the same time. Fill The Banks with chain attractions and it will be a HORRIBLE move... but filling it with a chain grocery, a McDonalds or Subway (some sort of cheap food to help out diverse/not rich residents), I have think would be a GREAT move. Not everything can be unique and a mix of homegrown and chain will be great. But PLEASE we do not need a Foxsports Grill or an ESPNZone just because the stadia are there does not mean these under-performing unoriginal venues should take root. We already have Moerlein Lager House & the In Between Bar etc to provide much better atmospheres.
  2. if the elevator runs from inside the parking garage, they should never have a 36" cover problem. The development would likely be heavily weighted to the NKY side, the water line would run from inside the parking structure through its transition to commercial and into the Hotel seamlessly on a chase on opposite side of the elevator line which should by the elevator dimensions alone afford more than 36". **but these are details, and we have no real idea of the development vision yet.... i just found the article citation funny.
  3. right so they would be inside an internal insulated elevator chase.
  4. well the last buyer wanted to pay 7M with 15M in federal/local "help" so hopefully its just 1.6M no incentives or breaks... at that price they should have plenty of money free to turn this building around in a BIG way.
  5. hate to say it but i went to the Enquirer site today... anyway the article on the site with reference to the PPB project talks about building up a garage at NotL's site B (the site directly to the East of the current NotL structure). This could really good thing if done correctly... The article then says the developers would look to run an elevator system horizontally out from that... its funny though that literally the very next paragraph of the article discusses open air utilities etc that would have to be run out to the hotel and how this would could be a looming problem. At least I find this funny whereas you would run the electric in a chase with the horizontal elevator.... so there would be no problem. (it would be great if they would just hire someone to write development articles who knew what they were writing about)
  6. Most people understand the difference, but they also understand that the two are set by the city and an amendment could easily change the percentages of tax dollars that go into each, or change it so that the percentages aren't set in stone and could rotate each year. I'm not saying it should be done, but it could be. Just to give you an idea that amendment would have to be made directly to the Charter of the City. So basically we would be changing the bedrock document of the city based upon a singular recession and subsequent "media outrage" about a police force cut that seems to resemble the restructuring that needs to happen in the cincy force anyhow. (hint those fired are not going to be your officer standing on the corner... its going to be a desk jockey who should have been released a while ago... and who knows maybe the force will actually start to focus on the tech/organizational modernizations that Greg Harris suggested two years ago.) (please pardon the rant)
  7. Saw that too... the enquirer especially has been lax with their web-based content over the years. they seem to take a put it up then fix it for print mentality- its very sad. But back on topic... For those of us who are interested in future streetcar branches, especially through the West End and towards Price Hill it is nice to see someone from one of those inner ring neighborhoods get the nod!
  8. East Coast cities WANT rail and their elected officials are not shy about it --- THAT--- is why they have an advantage... though it does have something to do with numbers the more important thing is that they are not reluctant or indecisive on the issue. The % of funding provided by the Fed Gov varies per project, but it in the case of 3C it is right around 80%. The amount of funds that Ohio has to commit to the initial phase is RIDICULOUSLY low.
  9. WTF? Cincy establishments and businesses benefit from attracting patrons from the residential neighborhoods that surround them, that includes the NKY river cities. As a city-state oriented thinker I basically see the whole basin as Cincy, and have no problem connecting with the opposite side of the Ohio's banks as much as possible.
  10. From talking with an architect friend who worked on this project, the idea is to be a bit more Esquire style in its offerings... the only detriment is the original building which has horrible acoustics/sound proofing hopefully they have remedied that.
  11. Interesting porch & common house along the corner in that link... thanks for the heads up Big Max!
  12. The most interesting thing from that link was the $10M expansion of Bogarts (this is the first I had heard of this), followed closely by the redevelopment of The Benchmark both projects would be heavily benefited by future streetcar extension north.
  13. ^I am with Hts121 on this. Driving to Cleveland= a waste of my day, riding a train to Cleveland=me getting some work done on the trip, recovering from a hangover, or reading...
  14. I've been waiting to see some night shots.... love Paradox24's contribution! Awesome to see the light pollution fade to the right, the foreground composition is just spot on, and the colors are just great (especially the red at the Montgomery Inn Boathouse)!
  15. The entire width of the bridge is currently not open to pedestrians anyway... which is a shame. But seriously you are critiquing a project that there are little to no details of yet! WTF? This could be a very exciting project. There is nothing that would require a 100 room hotel to take up the entire width of the bridge. The "complex" could easily be broken in to segments that allow for 1, 2, and 3 width sections of the bridge to be completely open at various times, so saying that the hotel would need the entire width is premature. This forum has gotten way ahead of itself in judging a project which could become an activating presence for the river. As much as Cincy Riverfront Park is thought of as an activating presence it is for the most part a buffer from activity... IMO we should open to this idea and we should not assume that this project will close the bridge to pedestrian traffic. Its success will be dependent upon pedestrian traffic!
  16. I'm not for it being an entertainment complex... but I am ALL for the PPB being activated along its length, its a long walk for some people... It would be great to fill those "empty spaces" you guys reference with high density residential on both the Newport and Cincy sides. Anyway I am really looking forward to some renderings. At DAAP we talked about doing something similar with residences along an unused Brent Spence. But if the BSB is still going to have local and highway traffic...just has some decent walking/biking/jogging/green space along it would complete a GREAT 2.5 mile loop from from the PPBridge along the Cincy Riverfront Park across the BSBridge then along Riverfront Commons in NKY...creating a Regional Central River Park, and a development on the PPB would nicely cap the space. brent spence housing concept= Infrastructure reuse is becoming more popular. San Francisco Bay bridge reuse concept from a UC Berkely proposal=
  17. ^8th & State... There should be no more battle. But if there will be one, those of us who are smart will continue to fight. Despite the missing/illogical generation.
  18. Its interesting to see LaHood promote a facebook group page for NY state rail as showing of state support... Ohioans should go to http://www.facebook.com/pages/All-Aboard-Ohio-The-Official-Page/131908532861?ref=ts&v=wall to "like" All Aboard Ohio as fast as possible... maybe that will get the Secretary's attention. IMO I think pressure from the mayors of the states and the local economies that would be benefiting from foreign investment in the line and car development and from ridership should be on the front lines right now fighting for their economic futures!
  19. Early studies from US HSR Assoc and SNCF had the CHI-INDY-CIN route as a key line... what are the chances of Hamilton county and Cincy as a region pushing this despite Kasich? (esp since line improvements would only be in one county, and whereas this could eventually be the key link to the East Coast Accela corridor)
  20. Thats funny EC... i can say for myself that I am moving out of Ohio by the end of the month. To DC (for a job yes but...) NE Corridor here I come. And with Ohio's money heading to NYC I can ride all the way to Canada! *disclaimer___ it is not guaranteed Ohio's money will go to to NY that is pure speculation
  21. Yesterday marked a what Great American Insurance called a ceremonial lighting event... coinciding with the MNF game coverage. They got the lighting on in time for the aerial shots around 730-8pm. Im sure between your 7pm viewing and 730 some execs flipped a "switch" to turn them on for "good."
  22. At least we can pester his staffers with the truth http://www.kasichforohio.com/site/c.hpIJKWOCJqG/b.5207517/k.2A93/Contact_Us/apps/ka/ct/contactus.asp *along with our utter disgust at the governor elect's intelligence. **funny it seems that NY will take our money (since its already allocated for rail this is easier- less committees less votes- than switching it to highway spending or to a "deficit offset" (whatever that BS is). I say NY will take it bc they are outspoken about wanting it http://www.infrastructurist.com/2010/11/08/the-northeast-continues-to-push-rail-projects/ and because the prospective chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure John Mica favors North East rail investments. http://www.thetransportpolitic.com/2010/11/04/understanding-representative-john-micas-transportation-agenda/ ***On a side note since 3C goes through the entire state Kasich has a lot of control over the project. But what are the prospects of Cincinnati and Chicago rail advocates pushing the Cincy to Indy to Chicago HSR separately as it would only enter Hamilton County (maybe Butler too). Could the line be pushed by the Ham County Commissioners etc without Kasich approval?
  23. KJP when that article comes out could you eventually link to it? thanks in advance
  24. ^Disagree, at least nationally. Republican control is only in the House, and we have one the best Dept of Energy heads the US has had in a long time.
