  1. Per discussions on the Zoo's future photovoltaic parking shades: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2010/09/cincinnati_zoo_to_build_green_parking.html I grabbed this image of William Paterson University's new 3.5 MW array from the US Dept of Energy website. Helped me visualize what the Vine Street lot will soon look like.
  2. Its interesting/shocking to see the lack of development in Ohio's Wind resources (especially over the past 2 years when subsidies were so high), with comparison to other states: http://www.windpoweringamerica.gov/wind_installed_capacity.asp and given the wind reserves in the Western part of the state: http://www.windpoweringamerica.gov/wind_maps.asp
  3. this is great research! now we just have to work on incorporating these tunnels into future rail plans. (if the city used all the partially completed projects they could really get a system- intracity or intercity up and running with some serious savings. Of course that depends on the tunnels' current states)
  4. A number of properties up Elm towards Liberty have been purchased by Rev Lynch III's church (New Prospect Baptist). In talks from two years ago they plan on rehabbing many of them to rent as apts, or for use as offices. IMO having New Prospect invest in the neighborhood would be refreshing considering that 3cdc cant and shouldnt be everywhere at once.
  5. You have no argument from me that many requisite functional spaces of the building fail to perform their task. I was merely trying to note that in a building for designers, the requisite spaces are not merely that of a typical campus building, and that DAAP has merit outside of its failures (in classrooms, overall size, and light quality) for those in who are visualizing design. Think of it from digital, industrial, art composition, and sculptural design perspectives...
  6. ^I respectfully disagree, per your point Many great very valuable projects and buildings necessitate intense study to fully appreciate them. The writings and drawings of the DAAP project are numerous, not extremely long, and very accessible. This is not the way that I personally design but for a school of architecture it is of value. Consider that you as a student you can stand in the atrias and track the rotation of identical rectilinear volumes of equal size intersecting and rotating on 3 distinct levels. It could have been done more clearly, yes, but overall it allows on the opportunity to visualize massing and volume in a building where students are struggling to do that every day.
  7. what was the crowd like #s wise?
  8. The original facade was to be ceramic tile (furthering Eisenman's grid leanings) but that was value engineered out. The new cladding will be a big step forward for comfort in the building whereas the AC wont have to always run to pull all the moisture out of the air. Interesting that they are going with the same (often criticized) colors. (for the record the colors really grow on you after 6 years, and you might even appreciate- while some buildings influence the ambiance of what is designed with in them... i never felt imposed upon by the subtle shades blue, green, and pink... just sayin)
  9. It is in United Streetcar's interest to help the city convince people and to build a relationship with the city... that way our fleet order keeps their factories humming. Awesome opportunity!
  10. The freedom to accomplish things while traveling is a great reason to ditch one's car. I'll be ditching my car when I move to DC in 2 weeks. Hello NE Corridor!
  11. Great article about a recent survey pertaining to HSR potential riders, and the current political setbacks. [from the infrastructurist.com] http://www.infrastructurist.com/2010/11/04/elections-cloud-high-speed-rails-future-just-as-new-survey-shows-its-potential/
  12. could not agree more
  13. Thomasbw- forgot TRAC was still to come this year. Thanks
  14. likely it wont get any endorsements for more federal or state funds, likely meaning the city will have to close the 12 million dollar gap via alternative financing (bonds, casino revenue etc) as well as swallowing the total 64M in potential bonds that were leveraged in an effort to show government officials the city was serious about the project.
  15. ^yeah its a tilt shift effect (very popular right now), that one turned out really well. cool shot. Anybody with night pics?

i suggest that every democrat in ohio, move apartments, houses, whatever. find a new place in a different congressional district in the coming year. just to throw off the obvious redistricting fiascoes that will be occurring in columbus...
  17. you would think they could have had it lit by the NLDS...

    That is a great sign!
  19. I look forward to seeing some pics of it from around the city in the coming days, and to see in person in few weeks... First reaction is that it looks sharp, I am interested in how the signage will perform- both day and night.
  20. ^^ Really, wow. (Only surprised because Kaisch seems against transportation alternatives or gov projects, and Monzel is straight gunning to stop the Streetcar) On a different note that is a straight GOP ticket minus Cordary and Pepper. (and Pepper is a local boy with a Cincy family name so that pick is to be expected of the Enquirer)

would have accepted that or Cow Hollow (but since some people/maps dont show cow hollow as a separate place...) You Win- now you're up

ok. We will keep it kind of simple (but since the picture is taken over the neighborhood please note it is the neighborhood featured not necessarily the neighborhood where the Pic was taken)

    Governor's Island, NYC
  25. Did I see somewhere that the city had, had prelim talks with Holiday Inn and that might be the hotel on this site? (or am I imagining this article bc I cant find it again?) Holiday Inn is not a bad resident by any means but I imagine their clientele to be a diverse mix of people looking to visit Cincy for less (a great idea), and people too drunk/tired from drinking/gambling to make it home.
