Cleveland Browns Discussion
He was a favorite for the job last year, but Shanahan was more experienced and preferred by GM/Owner, given that Pettine and O'Neill weren't that experienced. It's an alright hire.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Not sure I agree with that article, but the radical shift in playcalling to read-option and conservative passing clearly disrupted the entire offense and did not play to Manziel's strengths. Oh, he's a mobile QB, let's run read-option. Problem: We have not done the read-option this season much, so nobody, including the third-string center, and Manziel, is prepared for it. Result: Disaster. And our defense is running out of bodies. Even depth players are going down, and we don't have a lot of depth. The rest is Manziel being an under-prepared rookie. He will get better, but who knows how much better.

Assuming an even number of snaps in each game (not true, but probably not far off) the first 11 games, which were all Hoyer save for a few snaps, is 68.75% of the snaps. He then played most of the Buffalo game. He's probably got the bonus even if he never plays again.

Cleveland Public Schools: News and Discussion
We own and I voted for it, along with the last one. I won't continue to do so unless there is further improvement, but I think there has been real progress, so I'm not going to give them an excuse to fail. Spending *is* too high - but now is the wrong time to demand a total overhaul of spending, since they aren't really done closing old schools and building new ones.

^ I was harsh on Hoyer's first-half performance last week, but he led them back and they won. I think he still as a 2+ game margin of error to work with.

Hoyer the Destroyer is definitely the accepted nomenclature.

Cupertino, CA: New Apple Campus
Apple is staying loyal to Cupertino. Having their headquarters there made sense before, and while it may be a legacy of a suburban-focused age of offices, it works for them. It works for many companies in SV. And there's already a ton of resentment towards the tech companies driving up real estate prices in San Francisco - how much worse would it be if they built the spaceship vertically, downtown? And losing Apple's 15k employees would be the end of Cupertino. SF is doing fine without an Apple Tower. As for market share, how about share of profits? Apple obliterates the competition. I own and use an Android device, and it works fine, and there are good reasons to choose either OS. Even Windows is becoming a legit competitor - slowly. But Apple has a crazy, fanatical focus on the user experience and it continues to deliver huge piles of money to their door. The increasing market share of Android will continue because of affordability, especially in China. And in the US, people may argue at length that Apple customers are fools for paying the margins they do, but as long as the customer is happy, it doesn't matter. >>Finally, and most impressively, is Apple’s share of global mobile phone industry profit. Despite accounting for just 10% of phone sales, Apple pulls in between 60% and 70% of all phone industry profit thanks to its sky-high margins that rivals can’t even dream of approaching.<< http://bgr.com/2014/03/17/iphone-profit-share-market-share/

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Dion just needed the right voice in his ear. Always different leaders, nobody really taking charge of the team - not the environment he would succeed in. Of all the players on the pre-2014 roster, Dion will benefit the most from LeBron's presence.

Embracing the player rather than washing their hands of him is the right answer, especially given the murky justification for the violation (and, indeed, the very existence of the policy). If he has a real problem, it helps him get past it. If he doesn't, it at least complies with the NFL's demands. And it keeps Josh Gordon a Cleveland Brown. It's not like we're overpaying him in the meantime.

Just took a look at tickets. I really, really, regret not just buying season tickets during the offseason speculation period. Opening game tix starting at 500 on resale market. 1000+ for anything good. 5k to sit courtside. Good for the team/city, not great for me. :)

^^^^ THIS. First of all "Please stop feeding the animals." Weird expression. By that you mean: A. don't engage with any of the points she is making B. People like her that express views we disagree with are subhuman. Below us. Man. Pretty smug and self satisfied in your own little bubble, aren't you? Are you Angie Schmidt? Was the post you quoted removed? And I'm pretty sure the answer is A, with the added assumption that any response would only provoke an unproductive discussion, but the OP would have to respond for themselves.

Miller is staying on the roster - he's good value for what we're paying. He may be getting up there in years, but he won't be called on to play more than 15-20 minutes tops. Maybe less. He can be a very effective role-player in that all he has to do is sit on the perimeter, tie up a defender, and nail shots. He was a good starter for Memphis earlier in his career.

Keep Wiggins. Love doesn't even necessarily make sense on this roster. He's obviously a net plus, but his value might be diluted slightly because both LeBron and Kyrie need to have the ball a lot, as surf mentioned. Also, Wiggins gives us the value of his rookie contract; Love will be another max or near-max. If we can get Love without trading Wiggins, great, but what we really need is someone to help Varejao on defense. Wiggins does that, but he's a rookie.

Silver's analysis is good. But it doesn't take into account the chance that a player as young as Irving could continue to improve - just as players like James, Curry, Paul, and others have done after their initial contract ran. And Irving has been handicapped because he was hurt for 20+ games the first two years, and then in a stupid offensive scheme last year. If he regresses this year, it would be a straight up disaster. He *should* improve. And that makes the max deal make more sense, even if it's dicey in pure dollars/wins terms.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Listening to ESPN it seems like Bosh loves living on Miami and will choose the team again with or without LeBron. I think Lebron wanted to stay in Cleveland, but he couldn't convince Bosh and Wade to come here. I think Bosh convinced Lebron to come with him to Miami. For what it's worth, that was one of the last-minute rumors before the decision. Someone came out with a report that Bosh was coming to Cleveland with LeBron, but then the Decision happened and nobody ever really considered if that was a real effort by LBJ or a smokescreen.

Bingo. There's no reason to return to Cleveland now, unless he's feeling sentimental and really wants the narrative...in which case, nothing else matters, but, yeah, right. Yeah, Wade is beaten up, but unless he's privately confided to LeBron that he's on the downswing and knows it, the Big 3 is still a formidable force. I don't think they win the championship with one extra veteran on the bench, but it would have been closer. We should just draft Wiggins and trade for a center. That's what we would do to woo LeBron anyway.

Cleveland: Edgewater Park
I was at Edgewater this weekend too, and it's a different world from when I was a kid and it was a fairly dirty beach with cloudy water. The water still isn't perfect...but it's better. And the facilities and grounds upkeep are excellent.

Plenty of other 'sources', like Sam Amico's, say the physical was fine, no issues whatosever. Rizzo loses a battle of credibility, all other things being equal. I think they take Embiid. If he's healthy, he's the right choice. Also, we need a coach. At some point. Minor detail, I know.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
And suddenly, Lonnie Chisenhall has one of the best games ever--literally, one of the best games ever, no exaggeration--hitting at the absolute maximum of his ability. Especially impressive because it was more technique than pure power. He should go to the all-star game. When was the last time somebody had stats like his after ~200 AB? He'll be eligible for the batting title starting in about 20 at-bats, but it will take a huge write-in campaign to get him to the game. This is the sort of development that the Indians needed. There's no real ceiling on what they can do if they get reasonably consistent pitching.
