What Do You Put In Your Salad?
Same as you, but no black olives. Don't like them for some reason. I use spinach as my main ingredient. Lots of it. Green pepper if I'm feeling ambitious.

Most significant thing in that series was Ubaldo pitching well and Johnny Damon hitting well - two big question marks answered in a positive way. Perez leads MLB in saves easily, with 11, and 11 straight after blowing only his first attempt.

The idea is that you can lease parts of the apartment to individuals rather than having to lease the whole thing, at least that's how it worked when I lived in an apartment basically identical to D1.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I think Massaquoi is just about done in Cleveland. He's a 3 or 4 WR on a decent team. Great guy, but just doesn't have the stuff a 1/2WR needs. Greg Little, on the other hand, is basically a beefier Braylon Edwards. Same drop problems, same athleticism, better blocking and maybe better potential on the reverse play. I think Little is at least a 2WR; if he breaks out this year, he could become our 1WR. Cribbs is average in the slot and has breakaway speed and good agility, he should be the 3WR. Travis Benjamin probably comes in right away and ends up fourth on the depth chart as an speedy option. Norwood probably hangs on as the last guy on the roster. I would guess we've seen the end of Carlton Mitchell unless he shows some immediate improvement. It's not an awful group of WR, it just needs a guy who demands double coverage every down like Edwards did when he was playing well.

Northeast Ohio / Cleveland: General Transit Thread
Why would Warehouse District push against this? I get nobody wants to have the busy bus station on their doorstep, but this is a couple blocks removed, and would still be a sort of island surrounded by roads/parking lots, so what's the problem? Population would go up, foot traffic would go up, and RTA would surely like to have this facility. Is it really just the biased perception that buses = poor people and oh my god we can't have the poor in our warehouse district, or is there some other development concern?

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I don't go to the games but I watch and follow the team fanatically. If I had a lot of money, I would probably go occasionally if I could get nice seats. I look at it this way. Yes, the Browns have been consistently awful since their 'rebirth'. There are a lot of reasons for that, and a lot of blame to go around, including to the Lerners, the NFL, Art Modell, Michael White, and so on and so forth - most of that is irrelevant at this point. The real killer has been constant turnover in the coaching and management, for which the Lerners are first and foremost to blame, and the coaches/managers themselves as well, and also a number of players who never came close to meeting expectations (but again, that mostly goes to the coaches/managers). All that awfulness taken as a given, this most recent draft is Tom Heckert's worst draft in his three years in Cleveland. And it's not that bad. Tom Heckert has my nearly-complete confidence as a GM. Why? Because he was able to pick out the talented parts of the team he was given, retain nearly all of them to significant long-term contracts, and add new talent through the draft. That's his entire job, and he's done an excellent job. Retained: Joe Thomas, D'Qwell Jackson, Josh Cribbs, Phil Dawson (by force, albeit) Added: In 2010: Joe Haden, TJ Ward, Colt McCoy (he was good value at 85), not a great draft but decent, especially Haden/Ward; In 2011, he blows the field away, getting starters in Phil Taylor, Jabaal Sheard, Greg Little, and even Jason Pinkston, who while not great, manages to be a serviceable fill-in starter despite being a 5th round project pick. Eric Hagg, a 7th-rounder, becomes a valuable special teams player, and Heckert acquires extra picks for the following year. This is the best draft for the Browns in 20 years. And this year, well, I like Richardson and I don't mind trading up - there was a lot of talk of Tampa moving up, and the fact they moved down after we moved up strongly supports that, if you choose not to believe Heckert. Weeden at 22 - not great value, but a potentially great player. Schwartz is an underrated choice for RT IMO, and I disagree that the WR on the board at 37 were all that interesting. We have Greg Little - a lot of those guys are similar to him. Big, physical, need to work on hands. Why get another project? Travis Benjamin, again, nice, but too high. Jonathan Hughes - I have no clue what the deal is. His teammate also went really high in 2, despite being graded only marginally higher - apparently they were both shooting up boards in the final days. If it was my draft: 3: Richardson (same trade) 22: David DeCastro G (deny him to the Steelers, who were thrilled to get him...) 37: Jonathan Martin OT (I'm willing to buy the argument that Schwartz is underrated, and is a Cal Bear like Alex Mack, but I would have gone with Martin anyway) 87: T Y Hilton WR (trading down with Denver made sense, IMO) 100: Alameda Ta'amu DT 120: James-Michael Johnson LB (the actual pick) Onward - Same as actual picks, almost all were A+ value. That's my 'perfect' draft. Would have cried tears of joy for that draft. Still fairly happy with what we got, but I don't agree with Weeden merely because the risk, for a team that has so many needs, is just too high. If he struggles, how long before he gets replaced? How much patience will they have? What if they really, really bomb? Then they're all fired, and does a new regime want Old Man Weeden behind center? Another wasted first rounder - ESPECIALLY with David DeCastro on the board. Man. But I hope he throws long bombs and proves me wrong - he's surely better than McCoy, but how much? So Tom Heckert is not the problem. Mike Holmgren is not really the problem - he's far too expensive for what he does, but it's Randy's money and his decision not to be an involved owner, so who cares? If Holmgren is a problem in any way, it's that his anointed coach, Pat Shurmur, hasn't done anything to impress anyone. But - he was a new coach in an abbreviated offseason with, frankly, a pretty raw team with only about 2.5 years of quality players on board. So he gets at least this year to prove himself. And frankly, if he doesn't really mail it in, I'd say next year as well. Turnover is the worst thing for this team, unless the coach just totally loses it. Or never has it. I erred on the side of keeping Eric Mangini's staff as long as he would be allowed nowhere near a draft room ever again, merely because I was tired of hiring and firing. And you have to ask yourself at each junction - is there a better coach waiting in the wings? With our current coordinators, it's a maybe, but I'd definitely reject firing the whole staff after this season unless we're 0-16.

The other Cinci DT also got picked up way ahead of where he was graded. Not sure what the deal there was, but he (Wolfe) went in the early 2nd. Maybe there's something up with Cinci.

If it were up to me, I would allow it without requiring an official variance, but for the curious, here is a relevant city ordinance: "Section 623.13: Notices/Signs on Public Property: (a) No person shall stick, post or attach any notice, advertisement, poster, sign, handbill, or placard of any kind or description on any telegraph, telephone, railway or electric light poles within the limits of the City, or on any bridge, public building, voting booth, flagging, curbstone, walk, step stone, or sidewalk, or write, print, or impress or in any manner attach any notice, advertisement, poster, sign, handbill, or placard of any kind or description on any public building, bridge, voting booth, flagging, curbstone, step stone, or sidewalk, the property of the City or within the street lines of the City, or over which the City has the care, custody, or control, except as may be required by the laws of the State or City ordinances. The prohibitions of this ordinance include the placing of building numbers on curbs. (b) All notices, advertisements, posters, signs, handbills, or placards of any kind or description in violation of this section shall be removed by the department or division which has the care, custody, or control of the City property where the violation is found and the director of the appropriate department shall charge the responsible party fifty dollars ($50.00) per sign to cover the cost of removal. It shall be the duty and power of the directors of the departments and of the commissioners of the divisions of the City to carry out the mandate of the preceding sentence with regard to City property under their care, custody, or control. © Whoever violates this section is guilty of unauthorized placing of notices or signs on public property, a minor misdemeanor." In Manhattan, handbills and stickers are absolutely everywhere. Not sure it really detracts if they're limited to the sidewalks and boards in front of construction sites. Do they have a similar ordinance and simply turn a blind eye, or is there some process by which they can be approved?

It's way up from 47. With Damon, it will be almost 78. There's not a huge problem with the amount at this point, it's more where they've chosen to put the money. 5M on Sizemore looks like a waste at this point - not much need for him with the way Duncan is playing, and the addition of Damon. Hafner's contract ends after this year, which will give them a lot of relief. Pretty sure Lowe and Kotchman are one-year deals, so there's a lot of open space next season. http://content.usatoday.com/sportsdata/baseball/mlb/Indians/salaries/2012

Min Anh is great. Phnom penh - up and down. I like the Salad Phnom Penh but the food sometimes is a large portion of noodles - not much protein for the price. Always good but cost per portion? Superior Pho on E. 30th is really good. Phnom Penh - I agree, inconsistent.

I think there are better options for downtown retail than Best Buy. I would wager a fair bit of money that Best Buy won't even exist in its current form 10 years from now. Someone who focuses on media and entertainment only and doesn't rely on a handful of unnecessary high-margin products might do better - Best Buy will continue to lose to NewEgg on price and convenience, Sears on appliances, and Gamestop on games. It might have one or two successful departments, but eventually they'll have to retool or call it a day. If there's a concern about the area being underserved, well, not to be an enemy to retail everywhere, but I've done well using NewEgg.com for basically everything. Sam's Club isn't bad, either, but of course that requires membership. Not sure downtown would support a large electronics store right now. A few years down the road, I'd think. There are successful electronics retailers, by the way. Fry's in California. HH Gregg around here is pretty good - bought a TV there and would again.

^ Payroll is up by almost 20M this season. It's at a respectable level after several years of extreme budget baseball. I don't think it's being spent very effectively, though. I almost always open Cleveland sports seasons with optimism, but I'm very skeptical of the Indians this year. I was surprised to see a few people predicting them to win the division. I guess it's a weak field, so who knows? But I'd think with multiple offensive weapons and Verlander, the Tigers win it easily...

Don't apologize. :) We're up by over 800 now. I'd say it's a good idea to 'push' it again on your various social media towards the very end of the work day. I think we actually have an advantage in terms of time - El Pasans (?) will be driving home at 8 EST, while Clevelanders will mostly be home already. A mention on the evening news would have a big impact.

MTS, I believe there is a plaque on the inside as well, somewhere near the Key/Tower City lobby? I can't recall. The signage at Tower City says Higbee building. I'd suspect there will be some sort of history marker on the inside, but I don't know.

The Higbee's name is preserved in a number of places. There are interior and exterior plaques that I've seen, and it's still referred to as the Higbee's building in Tower City and by Keybank, which has offices there. The sign looks fine.

Public Square is not a space for 'experiencing' beyond the Soldiers/Sailors Memorial, which is kind of an island. It's a mass transit hub surrounded by interesting buildings. That may change if Mayor Jackson's proposed changes (see the Public Square thread) are carried out eventually...but the loiterers? Well, they might be waiting for a bus, or they might actually be homeless. The people waiting for a bus aren't going anywhere until RTA builds a new transit hub (proposed, designed) and the homeless people aren't going anywhere unless the principle mens' homeless shelter moves from Lakeside or CPD adopts far stricter, draconian anti-loitering statutes and patrols far more aggressively. In a city where the poverty rate is staggeringly high. People have to go somewhere, and if they're poor, they're probably going to take the bus. That's just a reality, regardless of how anyone feels about it/how it affects the aesthetics of the Casino. For what it's worth, I've heard it reported that there is increased police presence on PS, I believe there is now one officer there 24/7 who basically does nothing but patrol that side of PS, and there are often more. Other than that...I wouldn't have any tables facing outward onto PS on the 1st floor. 2nd/3rd floors, sure. It's not so bad a view...Other than that...what can you do? I think they've done a great job so far. You work with what you're given.

Ughhh. I went to Dragonfly when it first opened and really enjoyed it, have been back several times since. Good place. I have trouble believing it closed for lack of money, unless there's something siphoning off the profits. And though I wasn't a huge fan, Garage bar definitely brought something different to the area, so that's a significant (perhaps more significant) loss for the neighborhood.
