  1. NYC

I took the Amtrak from CLE-NYC with my wife and 3 yr old kid back in November. Ungodly CLE departure and arrival hours aside, it was glorious. The Lakeshore limited has a nice, fully restored vintage dining car and comfortable lounge cars that nobody seemed to use. Plenty of time and space to chill out, watch movies, play games, read, and watch the scenery go by (sit on the right side of the train eastbound for the good Hudson River views). Arrives in Penn Station, where you are just a subway ride from wherever you need to go. No lines, no security hassles, etc. etc. If you can spare a day of travelling, it's a great way to go.

I was going to suggest the old Westinghouse power plant on Cedar but it looks like Sherman already covered that ;)

I wouldn't mid getting together for an exploration myself!

Based on the Condemned sign, it looks like the Victoreen Instruments Division Digital Products Group Factory Building on 10101 Woodland Ave. I believe the company moved to Chicago in the late 60's. Not sure who occupied the building after that.
  5. Not sure if these have been uploaded/seen yet. They appear to be images of the Shaker Line and Right of Ways under construction?
  6. What a great photo, thanks for posting it!
  7. And Shorpy usually gets them from the Library of Congress Website: loc.gov/pictures/

If this isn't blue, I don't know what is...
  9. Right, let me try that again:
  10. Has this one been posted yet? Great shot of the Superior Viaduct:
  11. Wow it looks amazing. The Dim Sum Club I'm a part of has a meeting on the 7th, I'm going to suggest we check this place out instead of going to Li Wah as usual!
  12. Very nice set!
  13. There is a proper park there, but the bridge is in the wooded area adjacent to the fenced-off area of the park. There are trails, though and the bridge actually connects them to the end of Hillandale Dr., allowing you to cross over a watershed. So it seems intentional, but it's definitely not maintained. You can just barely see it in Google maps: http://goo.gl/maps/vChHz
  14. I was browsing on the Cleveland Memory Project website when I cam across this bridge: http://hlneogis.ulib.csuohio.edu/chronology.asp?id=CUY0056 Being that it's in my neighborhood and I'd never heard of it, I grabbed my son and my camera and went to check it out: Hope you liked it, it was quite an interesting find for me!
  15. Thanks, everyone! Yeah, the E&Y construction lights were quite bright, played havoc with my light metering!
  16. Nice shots, I like the E. 4th one best. I too noticed the dearth of comments (but plenty of views) when I posted my night shots recently. *Shrug*
  17. The Marine Week shot is nice!
  18. Some photos I took last night - I missed the transit of Venus but everyone stuck around for a stargazing party after sunset! I also "snuck" into Whiskey Island and took a few shots. Enjoy. "Bonus" pic - The Lincoln Electric Wind Turbine:
  19. Dim and Dem Sum are awesome, but Cleveland has had food trucks for years. Well at least in the 'hood :) I've been buying Hot Tamales from Wilson's Hot Tamale trucks since the 80's, and they've been around since at least the 70's!
  20. I was just at the Map of Thailand restaurant a couple of nights ago for dinner. Nice decor, but the food was only so-so (looked very nice, but lacking in the flavor dept) and the staff was inattentive, despite our table being the only one occupied in the restaurant. Nowhere close to the quality of the Thai food at Bangkok Thai Cuisine on Mayfield!
  21. Correct!
  22. I'm Stumped on #31 as well, but in the meantime, #33:
  23. #31 is on the corner of Canal Road and Carter Dr. in the Flats, not sure of the name of the building.
  24. Oi, I need to upload these to a different account to display them in full size.
  25. I decided to spend a bit of time browsing the Library of Congress website (source of most of the Shorpy images) myself for some photos. Beats doing real work! Here are some gems that I found: Public Square, 1916 http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/scotdor/pubsq1916.jpg Bridge swept away by flooding, Cuyahoga River 1911 http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/scotdor/bridgeflood.jpg Sheriff Street Market, 1905. I've never heard of this one! http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23/scotdor/sheriffstreetmkt1905.jpg
