  1. Great shots KJP! A friend and I went by the site a few weeks ago on the way into Youngstown, the rate of progress is astonishing. I've considered stopping on 80 a few times myself, but the :police: just whacked me for going 73 in a 55 so I haven't pushed my luck since then, lol.
  2. No problem! I'm going to throw my gear into the car tonight and head over to the site after I get out of work in the morning... weather permitting.
  3. In Youngstown, an old plant gets new life making pipe for natural gas Read more: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11107/1139959-503-0.stm?cmpid=marcellusshale.xml#ixzz1Jv7Us5wo
  4. I'm curious to see what happens with the old mill buildings too. They're actually in very good condition aside from the missing sheeting. I photographed them last year (with the cooperation of a Girard police officer who allowed me to wander around the site), unfortunately I lost the images when my computer's hard drive crapped the bed. This project is an awe-inspiring sight and it's great to see it happening right here in the valley. I'll do my best to keep an eye on it's progress.
  5. I mentioned earlier in this post that a friend & I hike through this area quite often. Well, Spring has finally sprung so I ventured out here yesterday (April 4th 2011) to check out the progress being made on the expansion project. It's coming along quite well! Here's a few photos from yesterday's hike along the Mahoning River. Hopefully no one minds me posting this here. 1. Hiking in from Sidley's. There's still a lot of debris left over from the various YS&T buildings that once stood here... 2. V&M Star Steel’s $650 million expansion project. 3. 4. Loads of equipment being moved about the site. Also, note that the lighting has already been installed... this is something that usually doesn't happen until later in most cases of construction work. As far as what appears to be a one legged body hanging from the framework, your guess is as good as mine! 5. Workers are carried to and from the worksite via numerous busses. 6. Workers leaving the site. 7. 8. One of the numerous steel workers. 9. 10. No thanks!!! 11. New meets old. One of the former YS&T mill buildings in the background. 12.
  6. Nice shot C-Dawg! Love the colors! Where was this taken?
  7. Thanks Rob! I spent at least 30 minutes watching them working their way through here. It's rather awe inspiring, especially that turn.
  8. I'm over winter!! Here's a shot that I took last fall of Dorothy Ann pushing Pathfinder through Cleveland. I love watching them while they navigate their way through here.

Thanks everyone! Very cool. I might have to swing through there sometime.

Great photos, Ink. Out of curiousity, what is this?
  11. My apologies. Sometimes I let these get the better of me. :bang:
  12. KJP - Any word as far as V&M's plans for the old buildings that sit adjacent expansion site? It appears (from the rendering) that they plan to modernize those as well? A friend & I were hiking/biking through there on a regular basis, but we've since lost track on the progress being made since winter set in.
  13. Ha! Is that what I'm smiling at??? You know better. And what happened to "You gotta love a guy that cleans" anyway? But really, I'll get it all moved, soon. On a side note; I picked some crappy headstones to shoot the last time I went to Union! I came up with virtually nothing on almost every single marker! So it looks like I'll just be posting photos for the most part on that batch.
  14. Cort - I debated doing so, but I figured I should keep things in sync with my other accounts, mainly Flickr -- I didn't want it to appear that I was posting other people's work. I'm going to transfer a bunch of stuff over to Flickr & once I do that I'll repost the Oak Hill, Lake View & the others here (although I can't guarantee when that will happen!) haha! :)
  15. mrnyc - Thanks! Weathersfield is just outside of Niles/Warren. Cort - Yep, tis I! :) Smith & DJ - Thanks! I luck out now & then. I've been lurking around for a while & I'm quite honestly amazed at the number of great photogs that post here... truly amazing work by all of you!!
  16. I took advantage of the nice weather we had here in NE Ohio a few days ago. While hiking, I ended up here at this old railroad trestle in Weathersfield, Ohio. The trestle was built by The Bethlehem Steel Bridge Corporation in 1917, and is still in use from time to time by Norfolk Southern. Bethlehem Steel Railroad Trestle by smiling bob, on Flickr
