  1. Isn't Staybridge the one planned for E. 6th and Rockwell? There hasn't been anything on that one in a longgggg time. I think if that one happened, it'd be one of the coolest hotels in Cleveland, based on the building/location. BTW, these developers making the waves now will cause a ripple effect for future businesses. The bottom line is, the PD and other media sources have presented Cleveland as dangerous and sucky, but as soon as all these big projects blossom, everyone will realize the media has played on the emotions of America (again!) The truth is, the developers who are acting now on land deals and purchases will be richer than they ever imagined because they acted now. It's all the followers and wannabe developers who will come in later when they see where things are headed that will still make $ in Cleveland but not nearly as much as K&D, Jacobs, Stark, Wolstein, and Zaremba will have. But more importantly, it was these guys who will have helped bring Cleveland back. They deserve to be rich and they deserve to be thanked in a time when others were spitting on our kick ass city.
  2. So in the last few weeks we got the FEB hotel announcement, the Stark update, the Jacobs announcement, the 668 Euclid announcement, and now this. I think it's great news to hear it all happening when everyone out there is busy saying how bad the economy is.
  3. MTS, We have a Renaissance and a Ritz in downtown, both of which I believe are top notch. As for the list of icing on the cake hotels you suggested, don't we have a bunch of those Lowes in all the suburbs? :D Sorry, bad joke, but I do hope for some of those upscale, trendy, contemporary places in due time!
  4. Signage was actually hung several years ago!! When was the last time you went down Euclid? :-D <img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/bizbizjohn/IMG_4923.jpg"> <img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/bizbizjohn/IMG_4898.jpg"> <img src="http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y180/bizbizjohn/P4210027-1.jpg">
  5. I never insinuated that anybody who shops at a big box store is stupid. I wouldn't promote big box stores because that is where everyone else shops. I would rather market and encourage smaller, specialty and independent stores. Eventually, when Wal-Mart takes over the world and that is where we are required to shop, we'll only be able to watch the movies and listen to the music that they decide to offer. We'll only be able to eat the food that they decide to sell. And we'll only be able to use the brand of vitamins that they decide to offer.
  6. Unique buildings in Cleveland? Who thinks there are none? Please people! Research Walker & Weeks. The Federal Reserve, the Bingham, and all their other stuff is amongst the best out there. The churches we have are also amazing, such as Trinity Cathedral! The Rock Hall might not be tall, but where else is something like it standing today? And as for the rest.. let's not forget all the Brutalism we have here, be it CSU, CWRU, Tri-C, or in downtown! Call it ugly but I call it beautiful! We have more brutalism than most other large cities! We also have in terms of "in Cleveland only" such stuff as the massive warehouses like Tyler Village and all the ones up and down Superior. To me, all of that stuff is unique. We have One Cleveland Center which I think is amazing, even though it has a bigger brother in NYC. We also have buildings by world-renowned, powerful, unique architects even if they aren't Cleveland-exclusive, still amazing. Weatherhead School by Frank Gehry, Key by Cesar Pelli, and the Rock Hall by IM Pei. As for unique to Cleveland, that Carl B. Stokes building is pretty damn amazing if you ask me.
  7. ^ For all we know, Jacobs might have this already planned! He owns the Huntington Bldg. as far as I know and he wouldn't build a new building without knowing the effects on taking away from the HBB's clientele. There's probably a lot more to the picture which hasn't been announced or made public yet. After all, this is right there near K&D's project, lower Euclid, and all that other jazz.
  8. Huntington Bank Building = Converted into condo's, because that would be the damned most hippest pad between Chicago and NYC (mocking the Avalon ad).. seriously, the atrium alone would be a nice selling factor and that building would actually be easier to retrofit into apartments/condo's/hotel space than most other buildings out there. Everytime I go in that building, I definately get the inner feeling that *this one* is Cleveland's best building! The entire complex, from the murals to the atrium lobby to the underground shopping is well executed. This one, whether it's finding new Class B tenants or converting it should not be a problem, as this was built by I believe the guys who built Terminal Tower, but more importantly, I'd like to think this is greater than Walker & Weeks best.
  9. The I-90/W117th area is gonna be more big box stores on the east side of W117th, that one is so obvious. Sam's Club was what someone was mentioning and I am sure a Wal-Mart could follow. It all started with Staples/Home Depot followed by Target now Giant Eagle. The big boxes are like maggots, they work together.. or they don't work.
  10. After this one is built and we finish filling in the parking lots, it's all up from there. I can't wait, and I can't stress how much I can't wait, for Rockside Road and the I-271 corridor (Beachwood, Landerhaven, Mayfield) to slowly start losing their clients to future growth back in the heart of Cleveland.
  11. We often complain that the biggest eyesore in all of Cleveland is a parking lot at Public Square. Now we are getting a skyscraper and some of you are complaining? I am actually very happy for this announcement! Surely, a taller building would be nice, but let's focus on something instead of nothing, especially with this economic downturn we're currently experiencing. I think this is great news especially since it will coincide with Stark's big project. Also, Mayday, I am wondering if your rendering does hold true, would it take away that amazing view from the Shoreway where you can see all the way down Euclid Avenue past CSU?? One of my favorite views of anything anywhere is on the Shoreway headed east, first you can see all the way down Superior for a split second, and then you can see at the slanted angle, all the way down Euclid, lined with buildings.
  12. The location of Rockside Terrace is east of Crossview Road, west of Lombardo Drive, on the south side of Rockside. It would be located right where all of the office buildings stop and houses begin. Avogadro, Regarding new developments in Seven Hills, the corner of Rockside and Broadview has become a *business* condo loft development which leaks down the hill into some other new adult living. This used to be a sandstone quarry a longgg time ago. Also, the Aldi's is open with a lot of built space waiting to be leased. I believe a post office is one future tenant. Also, a new office complex opened about 1/4 mile south of Aldi's, which seems to be waiting to be leased. It is a 1 story building, scaled down from what the proposal was. St. Mark's just finished it's private school addition behind the church. That's about it in Seven Hills until Rockside Terrace.
  13. I know that most will be upset about this new proposed location, but I fully support it. I have always hoped for some major development between downtown and UC/CC. Now if this happens, we'd have that missing link.
  14. Pesht isn't a vision or a plan. It has already been decided that it's going to happen. All they need to do now is publicly announce it.

I provide transportation in/out of Tyler Village for one of my customers and I really like what's been done so far. I am one who sees what something can become and not what something has become. Tyler Village is definately one of the cooler parts of MidTown/Asiatown/Quadrangle/Superior-St. Clair.
  16. This project is not being shelved or put on hold. I second what KJP said - wait until Friday!
  17. So sad, the deer will eventually be forced onto I-71 and die because everyone in suburbia needed to save a few bucks in a club...
  18. I'll be the first to say, I hate Applebee's and their food. If this has a rear setting with a parking lot in front, I'll very upset. If they build it right, I'll hush up and put aside my dislike of their food.
  19. Yes, 40,000 alone from Pesht! :D
  20. Phoenix Coffee on E. 9th is getting close! They streetside logo is now up! :D
  21. Man that above picture says a 1000 words. You have an open window on the new townhome across the street. That's cloud of dust and debris isn't just going to call for exterior cleaning on the Ave. townhouse, but probably interior as well. That's an old building with a lot of stuff that nobody wants to breathe in: dust, mold, who knows what else..... Somestimes there is no common sense on why ppl tear things down in Cleveland. In this case, they tore something down and did not plan the demolition properly imho.

I don't know who they are. This was just word of mouth.
  23. Wow! This is insane and makes me feel like we Clevelanders are living in a little European village compared to what is happening in places like Dubai and Hong Kong. God, NYC can't even stand up to this, nor can Chicago!

It slowed the process but did not stop us.
  25. If Avenue District, FEB, and Pesht will all offer a lot of retail and restaurant, then I don't see the market for Euclid Avenue possibly being able to fill the entire street with that sort of stuff, at least not right now. The concept of districts and focusing on specific markets is good. Look how E. 4th has succeeded as a unique spot for entertainment/dining, moreso than what's being offered anywhere else in NE Ohio. Let Pesht, FEB, and Avenue go to work on bringing in retail and more dining options. Because if Euclid Avenue tries to do the same, we're going to have a major market saturation and then places will vacate and we'll be back at step 1. As much as we want to think the downtown area is about to explode, you can't justify saturation if the demand is not able to support it YET. A furniture district could spill over into new businesses taking up office space on that part of Euclid, companies really getting into furniture dealing, and I'm not talking about small stuff, I'm thinking of being a destination for high end furniture. I drive 2.5 hours all the time to go to Ikea for furniture. Why wouldn't someone from Pitts or Columbus be willing to come on up to Cleveland for a chance to browse the hottest and most unique offerings?? I know I'd be down with it! I'm very supportive of districts and pre-planned efforts. Look at Dille Rd. in Cleveland and you see a church, a bar, a falling apart house, another church set 500 feet back from the road, a train track, a factory, a house, another house, and a recycling warehouse. That is what happens when the land and properties become "every man for themself". That area sucks now as a result. This example could be used for so many parts of NE Ohio: W. 117th St., Carnegie and Euclid near the Clinic: Rite Aid set back from the road next to an Aldi's with no front entrance next to a church with horrible design. That is what happens when you don't plan. The furniture district concept involves planning and careful decision making. That is how E. 4th has succeeded. That is how FEB will succeed. Let this district happen and if it brings people in, new hotels will follow, new retail will find it's way in. In NYC, bodega's and little shops squeeze into every corner. Right now, you could fit so much more on Euclid even with a furniture district. Let that blossom and the rest will follow. Or, stop it from happening and hope for some odd reason that Euclid will explode with retail just because it's Euclid Avenue, the most famous street in Cleveland.
