  1. And Developers Diversified re-named to DDR.
  2. ^ AWESOME! I was going to add Bluestone to the list of CH developments but you hit it! Other major developments in Cleveland Heights include a complete overhaul of S. Taylor Road from Mayfield to Cedar.
  3. It seems like with Bar Louie and Taza (AKA Aladdin's), we are getting some more regional and national stuff in the WHD. That imo is something that could have a domino effect in attracting other national tenants. If it keeps up, maybe Home Depot will build a new store in that huge parking lot that Stark failed to develop!;d
  4. ^ Hmm, not better than Paladar! :)
  5. The pictures a few posts above seem to be incorrect. That location was proposed several years ago and fell thru. The latest plans are much further east near Rhodes Tower and the Malaga Tennis Courts. FYI, the high-end apartments are E. 18th and Chester never took full fruition, as did the short lived plans for some sort of 3rd party housing at Chester and 29th, on a very thin stretch of land between the BP and I-90's eastbound lanes. Also --- I can not (at least not currently) picture high end apartments in that specific location. Who would pay a premium to live next door to the Greyhound station? Not exactly a perk imo.
  6. Welcome to Collinwood - I looked EVERYWHERE online with no results. Anyone know where the scenes were filmed in Cleveland? There is a great scene near the beginning where two of the main characters are walking around and there is a building out front called LUCIL. The entire movie was filmed in Cleveland as far as I know.
  7. I was there Sunday and can confirm what the news reports said. I can also affirm that this happened at last year's Coventry Festival. Hell, I have pictures of the rioting last year. I also was there 3 weeks ago with my girlfriend when the same EXACT thing happened. It also happened AT LEAST twice at Severance Circle. Let's recap EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING: Masses of black teenagers, male and female show up around the same time to either start a flash mob, gain attention, or what I witnessed last year, TO WATCH A FIGHT. The police either already there or who start showing up with billy clubs and speakers saying KEEP MOVING. The kids, if not already, start running back and forth, either running from cops or looking for the fight. I stopped one kid last year and said, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" and he said, "there is a fight, I am trying to find it." Anyone who believes that this adds to the culture or enjoyment of an art festival is only kidding themself. Last year, an old woman was decked by a punk and started screaming. Kids ignoring the cops to keep moving. The cops weren't telling them to clear the way for no reason - the festival ended and the streets were re-opening. It is also hard to describe this group of what I'd estimate to be 1000-2000 kids ALL THREE TIMES as anything other than black teenagers. I have yet to see a single non-black kid participate in the flashmobs. I spend A LOT OF TIME on Coventry, I live nearby and I am there 3-4 times a week. I am not going to deny anything that has happened and I am not going to downplay what a bad situation these kids have caused. The new law is a blessing and much-needed. When you go somewhere specifically to cause riots, fear, fights, and problems and then ignore cops, push people, block streets, run in traffic, and break the law, you are not a teenager having fun, you are a juvenile delinquent, or adult, as was the case last year when several arrests were of people over 18, some in their 30's. Believe me, no one is enjoying this, so I can assure you, I have no fun in talking about what is happening. It has become a mix of fear from youth rioting mixed with police states by men with billy clubs. Talk about a nice place for it to happen: THE HIPPY STREET. To sum it up, I also asked a girl last year why is she running with the crowd. She ignored me and just kept running. Running with the crowd...
  8. So is Tazo going on E. 6th or E. 9th? and is Taza going in on W. 6th? I am seeing conflicting reports here.
  9. Half Price Books at Golden Gate in Mayfield Heights Warehouse Beverage at Neville and Mayfield in South Euclid The South Euclid library, a former mansion converted Lakeview Cemetery Utrecht at Mayfield and Coventry A few of those big brick apartment buildings set atop a small incline on Mayfield, just east of Coventry - amazing stuff. The Rockefeller Building with Starbucks on the ground level, Rockefeller's upstairs Park Synagogue - more amazing architecture Phoenix Coffee on Mayfield at Green Amar's Lebanese Food on Mayfield at Green
  10. Food Co-Op shutdown last week. I wonder if they gave up with announcements of a "natural" grocer coming to Uptown. On the contrary, Murray Hill Market has been a regular stop for me the past month, it's a great store with many healthy items.
  11. I didn't see a thread about wind turbine construction in NE Ohio. Of course there's a lot of talk about turbines on Lake Erie, but the construction has already taken place for several already on the mainland! Please list any that I have not yet mentioned: 1. Great Lakes Science Center. Built in 2006. 2. PearlWind (I-480 @ Pearl Road) 3. Case Western Reserve University (Adelbert Road) - Built in early 2011. 4. Olympic Steel (Richmond Road in Bedford) - Built in June 2011. 5. Lincoln Electric (I-90 at E. 222). This is the biggest of them all and is one of the biggest in North America. Built in June 2011. 6. Sopko (I-90/Route 2 split on the SOUTHWEST quadrant) - Built in Fall 2011 7. Stampco (to be constructed late 2011) (I-90/Route 2 split on the SOUTHWEST quadrant - adjacent to the Sopko turbine)
  12. I also agree with Clevelander17, this project is definitely stalled or scrapped. Aladdin's back door where the building's bathrooms were got a complete high end re-model which also capped the wall to Jillian's. But that's all that's happened.
  13. Tbideon, I was there too! At about 9:00pm it was a line out the door! The vegan dessert place is now open. But when I was there at 6:30pm, it had already closed for the night. It's a large kiosk-esque area in the middle of the mall.
  14. So, this new yogurt place at Legacy Village is awesome. They have the same exact business model to Menchie's which opened this week at Eton. It's like comparing Qdoba to Chipotle. In this case, it's pick yogurt and add your own toppings. It's actually quite delicious and a lot of fun. Both places are always busy as hell when I go there, perhaps due to nice weather but probably also because they're a new concept here in NE Ohio. Menchie's, based out of Los Angeles is opening 6 more in the region this year, including Fairlawn, Mayfield Heights, Crocker Park, downtown Lakewood, and Rocky River - according to the owner I spoke to last night.
  15. About 2 or 3 months ago a demo took place on W. 117th between Franklin and Detroit, kinda near the Mr. Hero on the west side of the street. It happened so quickly. It's now just a big field of grass. Anyone remember what used to be there? Also - I see demo work taking place on W. 117 just north of Detroit on the east side. It used to be a used car lot. Any guess what's going on here?
  16. What's the deal with the old supermarket, I believe it was a Rini-Rego or Giant Eagle that got torn down. It was adjacent to the Cleveland Clinic and Playhouse/MOCA. Who owns this land? What's the future slated for?
  17. No, we shouldn't delete this thread or the AG thread. They are investing in Cuyahoga County rather than leaving the region altogether like TRW, Office Max, MBNA, and countless others have. Obviously a downtown development would have been ideal but you restricting our discussion because you're unhappy with their site selection is wrong! I'm with you on downtown but come on, I'm sick of seeing F500's leave NE Ohio and these 2 stayed, albeit in a different part of the metro.
  18. Some guy on Cleveland.com's forum is trying to say this is a bad idea. It is one of several people who somehow think that building residential, retail, and overall development in a prime piece of land is a bad idea. Meanwhile, I am ecstatic! I can walk to new retail daily now! :D
  19. Vegan Sweet Tooth (VST), a new vegan bakery has opened this week at Eton in Woodmere.

University Heights approved the long rejected plans of a new McDonald's adjacent to Cedar Center South. I believe they are going to tear down the old shopping center on Warrensville, just south of Whole Foods and Boston Chicken. There is nothing left in there now except an oriental rug place and a closed-up kosher chicken place. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that is the spot. Needless to say, and much like the proposal for a new McDonald's in Lakewood, I say blah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That video ruined my day. Rubin probably knew all along this was the plan and now yippeeeee I can't wait for the new stripmall to be built, in uh, 5 years, if we're lucky. BTW, the guy that kept rubbing his face when the lady was making EXCELLENT points really doesn't get it either.
  22. The Fortune 1000 shows many more of our state's big company's. It's pretty impressive!!
  23. Looking forward to the new hotel. I hate that parking lot - it's way too cramped and not easy to navigate. With UH/this/MOCA all in one block radius, I am very excited!
  24. I guess we could continue to complain about it, but I'd rather an ugly urban building than what used to be there and was rotting there since I was a kid.

I like both cities. They are not at all the same. One of the most important things to consider is terrain. Do you like steep hills and mountains or do you like flatland? Yes, each has its own perks. Hills and mountains = very beautiful and offer some amazing views. But jogging, biking, and snow travel can be quite difficult. As for museums, both cities are great. Both cities have their professional sports teams, both have a downtown and a cultural area (University Circle and Oakland). Good neighborhoods in both cities - Squirrel Hill and Oakland for Pitts and Tremont and Ohio City for Cleveland as just 2 examples. Hands down, Oakland is one of the coolest places anywhere - an extremely urban cultural and college center! However, the big difference, where I believe Cleveland wins, is the suburbs. Cleveland Heights, Lakewood, and countless others exist in addition to the city, whereas Pittsburgh dries up once you leave the city limits. I wouldn't say one is much better than the other, as both are great places, so it comes down to visiting both and making a personal decision on preference and comfortability. I have always found the tunnels, the incline, and some of the bridges to be awesome in Pittsburgh, but the fact that there isn't much of a grid system and it's very easy to get lost as extremely frustrating.
