Cleveland: I-77 & Pershing Industrial Park Site
It's huge because a new factory/warehouse is being built during a major economic crisis. It's not the only one in Cleveland, as there is also one on E. 55th and along I-90 near W-117th that is also going up. But nonetheless, it's a big deal in a city that needs new industry. It's also the first new development in that area in a LONG TIME.

Cleveland: I-77 & Pershing Industrial Park Site
The entrance to the city is not this warehouse, nor is it Tri-C. If you want to know the entrance to Cleveland, coming north on I-77, it's Fleet Avenue and Slavic Village, with an ethnically diversisified bridge, full of flags.

Cleveland: I-77 & Pershing Industrial Park Site
I noticed they finished the original frame, then expanded it south, and inside was some sort of old cement foundation of some sort. Last time I saw, it was inside the framework, meaning it might be implemented?? I love how Geis builds stuff so quick AND without 5 years of hyping it up. We need Geis to operate our downtown projects. And the one in South Euclid that hasn't been worked on in 3 weeks.

If you scroll around the history of the CSU Developments thread, you'll see some renderings of the proposed facility. It's amazing and could be a contender for most unique architecture in the city, alongside the RNR HOF (IM Pei) and PBL Bldg. (Frank Gehry)

I'm under the impression that it will still be built as a CSU Performing Arts Building to replace the factory theatre on E. 22nd. If Corlett falls for nothing, then I would be upset.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Well, CSU is expanding in all directions, that is awesome! One area I would love to see CSU expand and grow at is the intersection of E. 30th and Chester. 3 of the 4 corners have property for sale. The NW quadrant has a large warehouse facility that backs up to E. 29th and surrounds the BP Station. It's also connected to the bowling alley - which CSU uses for it's bowling league. The NE quadrant is the Cadillac Showroom facility, also for sale. It is a huge facility that could be used as a parking garage and multi-use. Finally, the SE quadrant is the former Midas Station, which is adjacent to CSU's Z lot and the Cole Center which houses WCSB, The Viking, and other departments. The key here is that 3 parcels (2 very large ones in easy re-hab condition) are available for sale and are all connectable by the "infamous skywalks", but more importantly, looking at a campus map, you'll see it's the last area open for expansion other than the dorm area on the north end of the campus. I think it's a huge thing to look into, CSU. ;)

This block along Euclid is one of the few projects that is moving forward, regardless of the economy. They have been sticking with their plans - so I entrust them to tear down Best Steak and green it up. To those who think the land across the street, where Corlett Bldg. and park space currently sits, in front of the Law Bldg, that won't always be "useless green space". It will be replaced with the new visual arts/theatre that is proposed in the next 5 years. With Playhouse Sq. taking in The Playhouse in 2011, this will drive the need for CSU to build the proposed theatre.

What I really want to know is if this will lead to the creation of a thouroughfare for E. 19th St. It currently begins at Chester, goes south and dead ends past the main parking garage. It was once in the masterplan to extend E. 19th out to Euclid. Now that Corlett is coming down as well as the Best Steak Building, E. 19th could go thru to Euclid and continue down to Swingos Ct, and onto Prospect, or at a very minimum, some sort of sidewalk or bike path connecting College Town and the commuter station.

Corlett Building, facade once-removed, now the Cadillac Building? Soon to be no building! 7-27-09:

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
This will be not be built poorly, it has to be built upto MMID code, for once, new construction falls in the zone this time, not outside of it. Any parking lots will be behind the building or in the form of a parking deck. Obviously, none of this has been drafted up yet, but I am only going on what the zoning for MidTown states. People, I would love to see MidTown developed full of lofts, condo's, and live-work space. But who are you kidding when you suggest this is a huge setback, as if this is the only remaining land in MidTown, or more importantly, on Euclid? I can name 50 parcels of land ON EUCLID that are more suitable for condo's than this site. E. 71st near Baker Motors and the "Marous Brothers" project is much more realistic, as is anywhere around The Agora or NEORSD. This is 500 new jobs on Euclid, 300 more people living inside, and 100's of visitors per day. Now even if only 10 people move to the area, it's better than none. Even if only 50 of the workers leave the hospital to go eat at a nearby restaurant, that's better than none. Doctors, nurses, aides, and psychiatric specialists are high paying jobs that require medical degrees. Do we not want 500 of them on Euclid? Would you prefer a skatepark? Would you prefer the continued presence of a grassy field? Or would you prefer this hospital be built in the greenfield space next to the new juvi center in the middle of the forgotten triangle? The comparison of a psychiatric hospital to section 8 housing, homeless people, or criminals is absurd -- the patients will never leave the facility and more likely than not, you'll never enter it! Many middle-class and upper-class people have family members - siblings, children, parents who live in a psychiatric hospital and they visit them. This is not going to be crack addicts getting a visit from their crack addict spouse. This might or might not produce new spin-off development, but give me a break. We'd be complaining if this were built in the suburbs and now we're complaining that it's being built here. It's a hospital, a rather large one, and if anyone thinks it stole the place of condo's, you're kidding only yourself. There is nothing urban about living on that portion of Euclid. Where can you walk to? There is NOTHING walkable in under 10 blocks. Gust Gallucci's? Chester 82 is on the backburner and until that is built or Beacon Place is completed (also on hold), as well as the Marous Brother's proposed project at E. 71st and Euclid, we can't even begin to hope for any residential at E. 55th and Euclid. This land has no potential to be used for college dorms or residential. There is so much land available adjacent to CSU's campus as well as 3 private developments currently underway adjacent to the campus; CSU is 30 blocks away and even if this land would make good use for it, there will be no demand short-term with all that is already being built (or about to be built) on the campus. Just remember, this nearly-100 million dollar hospital will be built right in the center of the "HEALTHLINE". I would rather high-tech or live-work in this area, but a large hospital is a long-term investment into the community. There's probably not a single Urbanohio'er who would feel comfortable walking around E. 55th and Euclid at 3am. When the hospital is up and running with security, surveillance, a 24/7 staff, and lighting, you'll feel like you're in a civilized setting, which is hardly the case right now. Right now, it's a scene out of Assault On Precinct 13's streetscapes. BTW - The other 2 projects proposed for Euclid are a whole different story and I would save your barking for those.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Agreed, this is a terrible idea. Lakeshore Blvd. at Euclid Beach needs a lot more than a carousel right now. The shopping plaza over there looks like a ghost town that is falling apart.

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
OK, well I did read the article, what I read is: Lakeview 2006 LLC, a group of investors that wants to build condos on the site, is working to convince Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Richard McMonagle that it can rehabilitate the property. I assume build means build out, as in new construction. It doesn't state "convert the hotel into condo's".

Cleveland: Demolition Watch
You know what irks me is how there is so much land around to build luxury condo's and they need to tear this one down to re-build on the site. I am willing to bet that no condo's will pop up on this site anytime soon. We're good at tearing things down so we can build something new on the site, then when we get done tearing things down, the economy goes bad, financing falls thru, or demand dissapears. I am not against the HoJo being torn down due to blight or due to the fact that it was (and is now for sure) falling apart, but to justify the demo so someone can build luxury condo's is one of those false prophecies we come to believe far too often.

Well, I would say yes, NYC is the city that never sleeps. However, there is no truth to 24 hour convenience stores on every corner in NYC.

Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
Yes, agreed about the regionalism, but Beachwood is flush with cash because of their leadership. They aren't flush with cash because God was nice to Beachwood. Until regionalism or annexation occurs in Cuyahoga County, every city, all 52 or so, want a piece of the pie. I don't blame Beachwood, because it wasn't today's leader's who decided to make 52 municipalities in Cuyahoga County. I also don't blame Lyndhurst for taking a piece of Beachwood's pie with Legacy Village. But at that rate, it's time we stop having 52 police chief's, 52 councils, 52 mayor's, and begin sharing tax revenue so as to first and foremost help Cleveland because ultimately, if anyone truly cares about the long-term future, our current ways with 10 or so suburbs pushing and shoving to be #1, 10 or so not giving a damn that they're on the fringe of a meltdown, and a key center city sitting in the middle of this crap getting shafted time and time again, our entire region will lose.

Beachwood: New Eaton Headquarters
Better this than nothing. FEB was great for us urban lovers, but it was ultimately the choice of Eaton where they want to build a new campus. NE Ohio, and more importantly, Cuyahoga County has retained a Fortune 500 company. Yes, it sucks Cleveland is losing them and it also sucks that FEB won't be the site, but at least they didn't leave the region altogether like Office Max and others have. Ultimately, for our entire combined metropolitan region and economy, it's absolutely critical that NE Ohio retains (and hopefully attracts) Fortune 500's whether it's Cleveland, Akron, Canton, Youngstown, the suburbs, or some exurb. The Chagrin Highlands was planned many years ago and I am sure Eaton, UH, and several others have been preparing to build there since the mid- to late-90's. Beachwood and the powers to be don't talk up development, they DO it. There's a reason I-271 received a Harvard Exit with 6 lanes, only .5 miles from Chagrin. Beachwood also has intelligent and powerful people on council and calling the shots - people who know how to make things happen in THEIR CITY, regardless of how it will effect Cleveland or the region. Their #1 priority: Make Beachwood #1 and whether we like it or not, they win again - the previous chapter in the book was the Jewish Federation.

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
The new international food place on E. 83rd and Carnegie is another dissapointment to MidTown, although once again, it falls on the cusps of some other zoning...... Another setback from the street building with a flooded parking lot in the front. Nice.............

Cleveland: The Residences at 668 Euclid Avenue
There's already about 5-10 convenience stores within the vicinity. 1 in the old National City and another in the new NCB building across the street, a CVS at E. 9th and Euclid, one in the Huntington Building's basement, and so forth. Hopefully this one will have later hours and more offerings.

Where was this picture taken from CLEVELAND
I simply can not vote because it is very open to being either Huntington OR Edgewater!! My picture was taken by me at Edgewater on a 300mm zoom of downtown. The first pic could be almost the same spot on a different zoom. The first pic in this thread looks like Edgewater, especially the trail, which I don't recall at Hungtington. There is also a park or two in Rocky River and Bay Village area with a similar setup.
