  1. I beleive the proposed water supply lines would come from Hudson so the lines would run from East to West into Penninsula down 303. The sewers would have to run south to the Akron Wastwater plant. So I would imagine the only overlapping work for the two proejcts would be in the heart of downtown Penninsula.
  2. Ahh, I missed the news that it started already.
  3. Doesn't the section around Harvard Ave still need to be completed? So, wouldn’t the Harvard Ave section be the final stage of the towpath trail?
  4. I took pictures of these same two projects about a week ago.
  5. They don’t need to spend a billion on that campus. It’s already very nice and functional.
  6. I'm not thrilled about more retail being built on undeveloped land. There are already too many shopping centers in the Akron area and these additional retailers could have found space to redevelop. Also very sad to see West Point close, but at least it sounds like that property will be redevolped into something useful.

  9. Bass Pro Shop will anchor huge Marketplace development in Boston Heights http://www.ohio.com/business/katie-byard/bass-pro-shop-will-anchor-huge-marketplace-development-in-boston-heights-1.591618?localLinksEnabled=false Bass Pro Shops, a megastore retailer specializing in outdoor gear, said Wednesday it will open a store in Boston Heights, its third store in Ohio. The store will be built at the northwest quadrant of Interstate 80 and state Route 8 in Boston Heights, on the site of the former Boston Mills Country Club. Bass Pro Shops said the store will anchor a huge, 1 million-square-foot “mixed use” Marketplace at Boston Heights. The project includes 350,000 square feet of retail space, and Bass Pro’s store will account for 100,000 square feet. Bass Pro Shops, of Springfield, Mo., said the projected opening date for the Boston Heights store is summer 2016.
  10. East End developer ready to rent apartments in refurbished Goodyear Hall http://www.ohio.com/news/local/east-end-developer-ready-to-rent-apartments-in-refurbished-goodyear-hall-1.585991 Come July, newly built apartments in Goodyear Hall will welcome their first tenants. And it’s likely that the stretch of East Market Street in front will see major changes before the year is out as well. Contractors continue to cut, saw, screw, hammer and drill away to put in windows, wallboard, plumbing, fixtures and do lots of other work at the six-story landmark building, part of the ongoing East End redevelopment of the former Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. campus in East Akron. Work to build a large glass atrium and new entrance at the former Goodyear headquarters also is expected to start soon.

Ramp changes ahead for I-77, I-90 entrances, exits along Inner Belt http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2014/10/ramp_changes_ahead_for_i-77_i-.html CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Motorists heading south out of downtown Cleveland this week and in November will confront ramp changes tied to the multibillion redesign of the Inner Belt Bridge and its offshoots. • Overnight Thursday, the Ontario Street entrance ramp to Interstate 77 South will close for good. • To handle traffic that would otherwise use the Ontario ramp, the entrance ramp to I-77 South at East 30th Street/Orange Avenue will be widened to carry two lanes of traffic, instead of the one available today. Crews also will open a temporary lane on I-77 South over Interstate 490. • In mid-November, the East 9th entrance to I-77 South will permanently close. --------- Personally, I don't think closing 2 HEAVILY used ramps to 77S is a great idea.
  12. I'm a Lowe's fan myself, but I'm happy that is project is moving forward for two reasons. 1) the Giant Eagle site will not be vacant eyesore 2) having a another mega hardware store around will make more products easily available
  13. Menards coming to Cuyahoga Falls in 2016 CUYAHOGA FALLS: Mary Ellen Pyke said the No. 1 question she gets as president of City Council these days is, “When is Menards coming?” Now she knows the answer: The spring of 2016. Council interrupted their August recess Monday just long enough to approve a contract that will pave the way for the national home improvement store to take over the soon-to-be-vacant Giant Eagle property on Graham Road. Tom O’Neil, who does real estate acquisitions for the Wisconsin-based Menards, said there is still a long road ahead of permits, rezoning and design, but barring any hiccups, site work could begin next spring, with an opening one year later. http://www.ohio.com/community/menards-coming-to-cuyahoga-falls-in-2016-1.512759?localLinksEnabled=false
  14. Portage Crossing on track for November opening in Cuyahoga Falls, developer says Construction on the much-anticipated Portage Crossing shopping complex in Cuyahoga Falls is continuing, and the developer and businesses are hoping for a mid-November opening. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/portage-crossing-on-track-for-november-opening-in-cuyahoga-falls-developer-says-1.507944?localLinksEnabled=false The article included for the first time that I've seen placement of all the announced tenants:
  15. The Halle building parking deck is one of the worst decks I've ever been in. I'm guessing since it's super old there are columns in nearly every single parking space that you need to avoid hitting, the whole place has peeling paint and tons of rust, and the elevator to the tunnel was the slowest most shoddy old elevator imaginable.
  16. Menards back on the table in Cuyahoga Falls CUYAHOGA FALLS: Menards may be coming to Cuyahoga Falls after all. A couple of efforts in recent years to bring the home improvement chain to town fell apart, but a new proposal would have the city subsidize the purchase of land near the soon-to-be-vacant Giant Eagle building on Graham Road in order to create a big enough footprint for the mega retailer. http://www.ohio.com/news/local/menards-back-on-the-table-in-cuyahoga-falls-1.504461?localLinksEnabled=false
  17. This may not be a popular opinion on this thread, but IMO all the Playhouse Square signage is a bit overkill. I like the arches on their own, but with all the other signs, banners, and video boards all screaming Playhouse Square it's a bit much.
  18. Grew up going to Parmatown and I saw it's fall after Southpark was built. I am glad it's getting another chance at being something worthwhile.

  21. CUYAHOGA FALLS CITY COUNCIL GRANTS TAX ABATEMENT FOR DEVELOPER PLANNING NEW COMPLEX Cuyahoga Falls -- City Council voted unanimously Dec. 23 to enter into a 15-year, 50 percent property tax abatement agreement with a local developer planning to build on South Front Street. Testa Enterprises is proposing a brand new concept in mixed-use development with the River Walk project, Jennifer Syx, the city's deputy development director, told Council on Dec. 16. Located on the property just south of the High Bridge Glens Park, River Walk is a $9 million project that will include 20 riverfront condominiums, nine market-rate apartments as well as retail and restaurant space. http://www.fallsnewspress.com/news%20local/2014/01/05/cuyahoga-falls-city-council-grants-tax-abatement-for-developer-planning-new-complex

  24. Dick's Sporting Goods and former Macy's will come down in Parmatown Mall http://www.cleveland.com/parma/index.ssf/2013/02/dicks_sporting_goods_and_forme.html#incart_river_default PARMA The portion of Parmatown Mall that contains Dick’s Sporting Goods and the former Macy’s will be demolished as part of the Parmatown redevelopment. Dick’s will move into a new building — possibly one of six outbuildings planned for West Ridgewood Drive — on the Parmatown site. The section of the mall containing the food court and JCPenney will remain standing and will be remodeled.
  25. Six outbuildings are part of plan to redevelop Parmatown Mall http://www.cleveland.com/parma/index.ssf/2013/01/six_outbuildings_are_part_of_p.html#incart_river_default The new owner of Parmatown Mall plans to construct six outbuildings along West Ridgewood Drive as part of the mall’s redevelopment. Five of the buildings would stand in a tight west-to-east line starting at Ames Road. The sixth would stand apart from the others, in front of the Parmatown strip center, closer to Ridge Road. The buildings would stand just 30 feet or so from West Ridgewood. Businesses – including Panera Bread and a lending institution – have already expressed interest in leasing the outbuildings. Chipotle Mexican Grill may move its restaurant from the Parmatown strip center into one of the new buildings. -------- I grew up in the area and I am well aware there is already too much vacant retail, so on face value this seems nuts. However, if this is tied to a longer term plan to tear down the mall and old Macy's building I can see how having new businesses along Ridgewood can help shape the new development.
