Greater Cleveland RTA News & Discussion
Thanks! Very nice numbers! It's funny, I was just thinking about RTA ridership.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
That's been a tough building for first-floor businesses. Since the mid-90s, the business that lasted the longest (ironically in the old MoCA space) was Christophier men's clothing which took over and remodeled the gas station at Clifton and Lake about eight years ago. The wine bar has had at least several different owners since I've lived in the area, but was a full restaurant about 15 years ago but I can't remember the name. I was in there several times and it seemed pretty busy, but good restaurants tend to close for the craziest of reasons. Clifton Wine Bar opened in 2010. From what I understood, it's been one of the longest lasting businesses in that stretch.

I never knew that Cleveland but AMEN! It's crazy that was just a few years ago.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Yea, I don't think I'd spend $250+ to stay in that room.

In my opinion, Winking Lizard offers nothing exciting food-wise. The lizards are a neat touch and they have a good beer list. Aside from that, it may as well be Applebees. I used to live essentially right on top of the one downtown and never went. There were too many other options.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
There is no rationale beyond corporate welfare and taxation without representation. If you can't build it, then don't. Private developers can now levy taxes on the citizenry? I agree. They're already getting all kinds of tax breaks and now they want to increase taxes as well?? To pay for what? The boardwalk that was part of their development? The roads that were part of their development? The buildings that they charge rent for and were part of their development? I don't get it. I'm not tax averse but come on.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
Maybe it seems so low because of the big developments in the hundreds of units that will be coming. I guess it could also be that I've been jaded by Miami where 400 units is one building.

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
So in one years time only 400 units were added? That is so depressing with all of the projects that have been announced. Obviously financing and tax credits are a big part of it, but unless they really start pushing out some apartments, it's going to be 100% occupancy pretty quickly (unless that's their goal).

Cleveland: Retail News
I went to Target in Montreal last year and it was pretty disappointing, but getting back to Cleveland - a smaller Target downtown would be quite nice in the May Co building with stores such as Uniqlo and such in Nuclues. A retail district to compliment the restaurant district already there would be wonderful!

Were you not able to get inside the "cave"? Cairo is also good urban porn (well, "urban")!

South Florida - Part 2 of Winter Warm Up!
You live there? Me jealous lol. What ever happened with the Trump condo building it was vacant for years? BTW I am skipping USA for vacation this year. Going to Santo Domingo DR. Aside from the weather right now, you're not missing anything. The Trump condos were a mess lol. The building finally sold and is currently being redone as hotel/condos. Supposed to be ready this summer.

South Florida - Part 2 of Winter Warm Up!
Las Olas (in theory) is nice. In reality, it's a lot of overpriced and unsatisfying restaurants. The density of shops and restaurants is great. KyleCincy[/member] Casablanca is very good. South Florida is dense by necessity, but there are a lot of buildings empty most of the year. My condo building fills up this time of year but is only about 50% full the rest of the year.

Are the chain link fences really the best they could do???

Caribbean - Part 1 of Winter Warm Up!
Thanks! I live about 6 miles south of Port Everglades and have a friend in the tallest building on your way out to sea. Haven't had a desire to go to Bahamas even though we can get day trips for like $50. Maybe I'll take advantage before I come back.

Another Dumb-a$$ List / Ranking of Cities
OMG why do I even click on that crap!?!? Miami?????? The traffic alone makes Miami MISERABLE to work in.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Using super conservative numbers, 20,000 downtown residents by 2020 and an average of 2 people per apartment (which is high) we would need an additional 3,750 units to satisfy that need. With education levels growing and average salaries growing for downtown residents, we would need four of these buildings and then some to get to the number of units that are needed. That's not even taking into account if more growth occurs do to the excitement. With all of that will come retail as more people live and play downtown. I agree that a lot of retail is a little scary but this is a developer who does this for a living with a lot of smart analysts.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
There's only been one skyline shot so far and I don't see this building overtaking anything. The skyline is going to continue to grow hopefully. We have many surface lots left.

Lafayette/Bloomington (Indiana)
Thanks! I've always been curious about these cities but never curious enough to make the trek.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
That was my thought as I read it and I believe my comments alluded to that as well. I don't have a problem necessarily, but we haven't seen any E6 renders from street level.

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Innovative NBBJ design for hotel in bridge over street in Stark's nuCLEus project raises intriguing questions for city (analysis) "City officials will confront an unusual and fascinating question over land use and zoning Thursday and Friday as they consider "schematic" design approval for developer Robert Stark's architecturally innovative nuCLEus development downtown. The question is whether to allow Stark to build a five-level hotel in a bridge structure that would span East Sixth Street between Prospect Avenue and Huron Road at a height of 18 stories, or 234 feet over the pavement below. In addition, the proposal also calls for at least one and possibly two bridges that would span East Sixth Street to carry cars between garage levels on either side." http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2015/01/innovative_nbbj_design_for_hot.html#incart_river

It's such a special location. Beautiful lake views and great decor. It really makes you want to dress up.

I went there a few times...after the first time, never by choice. For me, it was dingy, had a tiny dance floor, bad food and drinks and was expensive to get in to boot. I'm not personally a fan of drag shows, but that is the one loss here to me. There aren't really any bars left to fill that niche.
