  1. I love how the Quarter looks as you're heading west across the Detroit Superior bridge. It really changes that view down Detroit.
  2. Yesterday around lunch time I saw the crane moving a big metal bin around. So there are some things being done at the site, but it doesn't seem like much "visible" work ... yet!!!
  3. Wonder how that would hold up (or look) during the fall / winter months??
  4. They've taken down the scaffolding on the Ontario side of the building!!! It's looking good!!!
  5. It's actually just the top row that has been removed on that eastern side of the building. I'd think they'd only be removing the top row?? If they were going to remove more, they could have gotten more taken down by now then just the top row.
  6. From today at lunch. Not much to look at, but here's the proof that the top glass panels have been removed.
  7. Yea, tell me about it ... :-D So I saw a friend out yesterday and he was w/ one of his friends who is involved with some of the trade unions working downtown. He happened to casually mention a couple of the projects going on. I asked a few pointed questions in between beers to try to get some info. Hopefully we'll cross paths again soon so I can get additional info to pass on.
  8. So ... yesterday I talked to a guy who knows a guy :wink2: and was told that there probably wont be any actual construction starting on the Q until the end of the year / beginning of next year. They quickly set up the fencing and brought in equipment to drill down and do some testing, but all of that is being done at this time so they can officially say "construction has started" for the All-Star game timeline. But any real construction on the building itself is actually a ways away.
  9. Good point!! :-D
  10. I agree, it will be a rough bit for the businesses in the area. But when the construction is finished there will be an extra couple hundred people living right there to (hopefully) patronize those businesses!!! We just have to hope the businesses can last while the construction is going on.
  11. I saw them removing some of the upper glass pieces / panels on the parking floors yesterday. So things are going on at the site, but maybe just not that visible.
  12. There's currently a Potbelly's sandwich shop and a coffee shop on the ground floor with at least 1 (maybe 2) available store fronts on Euclid.
  13. I was wondering the same thing!!! I've been able to catch a quick view of the crane a couple of times today, but it looks like it's been in the same position each time. So (at least from a few blocks away) construction doesn't appear to have started.
  14. So now that they have pretty much finished setting up the tower crane. They'll open the lanes that they're going to on Euclid at some point this weekend. Can / should we expect construction to start on Monday??
  15. Even though one of these cranes is just temporary, it's nice to see 2 of them up in the air. Hopefully fairly soon we'll have at least one more crane up over the city to continue the building!!!
  16. Thanks. It definitely is an interesting perspective of the city (and it'll be a different angle to view the new construction). I'll try to keep the pics coming to update the progress!!!
  17. Looks like a decent amount of the tower crane has been set up. It's now visible above some of the downtown buildings!!! So nice to see this on the skyline!!!
  18. Today at lunch, I saw construction barrels in front of the building along Euclid. They were preventing cars from parking in the parking spots in front of the building. Definitely feels like we're getting close!!!
  19. Yep, this is good news. Especially if it gets the project moving forward!!!
  20. Saw some trucks outside of the building today as I was going to lunch. But it looked like they were only putting up (or maybe taking down??) a sign for a coffee shop on the ground floor. Was hoping I would have had the scoop on an "official start"!!!
  21. I liked the fact that it gave a pretty decent (hopefully accurate) explanation of the TIF. Along with the various options of what could happen with both it passing and not passing. Probably the most interesting thing for me was the slide that showed almost 60% of the 209 people supported the TIF. I guess 209 is a relatively low number of respondents, but 60% approval seems good.
  22. Some interesting info in that PowerPoint.
  23. How about today?!?!?!
  24. Even if it is a "shell game" office-wise there is still a residential and retail component to nuCLEus that should benefit the area / downtown, etc.
  25. A couple of weeks ago some friends from out of town were staying at The 9 after a wedding. We went back with them for a few drinks (in the Vault & Azure). I never got to see the Vault previously as a nightclub, but it was nice to see it now and we actually got a tour of some of the rooms that weren't "officially" open yet. Crazy how many vaults were actually in the old bank!!!
