  1. I would think that the glass would count as "facade"?? Any pics??
  2. I'm not saying that there arent tennis enthusiasts here in Cleveland, (and I am definitely hoping for a good turnout for the FedCup) but when I think of Cleveland sports I dont automatically think of tennis. Excluding our 3 pro teams, I'd probably associate CSU basketball, good quality Cleveland area HS football teams, the rowing teams on the Cuyahoga, summertime 5K's & Cleveland Marathon more with Cleveland than I'd automatically think of tennis. I was just looking for some other input / opinions to get a better idea of the draw that the FedCup would get. I'm sure there are plenty of country club / racquet club members, former tennis players, etc out there that are pretty excited out it.
  3. Over the weekend I saw an ad / poster for the the Fed Cup down at the Public Auditorium. I wonder what kind of draw it's gonna get (how many people) for those couple of days. I just dont think of Cleveland as having a huge tennis following.
  4. WOW!!! I didnt realize that it was closing. I was just there for a work holiday party a month or so ago. But prior to that it'd been a couple of years since I was there. At the time I was surprised that it was still open and looked pretty much the same inside. Many good times there thru the years!!! :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:
  5. After reading the previous post, I wasnt sure exactly what an "urban beach" was, so after some googling I found a definition and a couple pics of an urban beach at HTO Park in Toronto, Canada. Something similar to this would be interesting down along the Cuyahoga!!! Urban beach, or city beach, is defined by urban planners as an artificially created environment in an urban setting that simulates a public beachfront through the use of sand, umbrellas and seating elements. It does not include swimming or any sort of natural sloping shoreline into the water. The very point of the urban beach is to insert a beach atmosphere into an urban area that would otherwise be typical cityscape. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_beach
  6. Casino Skywalk to Open on New Year’s Eve http://fox8.com/2013/12/28/casino-skywalk-to-open-on-new-years-eve/ CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Horseshoe Casino Skywalk will open up on New Year’s Eve, according to the casino’s Facebook page. The Skywalk runs diagonally across the Ontario Street and Prospect Avenue intersection downtown, allowing guests to cross from the Collection Auto Group Centre to the second floor of the casino. https://www.facebook.com/HorseshoeCleveland?rf=111304652335037
  7. I totally agree. It's nice to drive home on the Inner Belt Bridge and see the Breuer Tower all lit up. That area is really gonna come to life when the tower reno is finished up and the CC HQ building is build and both buildings are lit up. Next year at this time will be a 180 degree change from how that whole area has been for many many years!!!
  8. Cleveland City Council passes Convention Center Hotel financing plan CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland City Council passed legislation Monday authorizing the city to play a role in financing the Cleveland Convention Center Hotel. Council had planned on tabling the legislation until January, concerned that it did not guarantee adequate parking for guests at the 600-room hotel. The ordinance hit a snag after some members requested that it be amended to promise hotel guests access to a nearby lot. Consultants and architects in recent weeks presented to council members the renderings for the hotel, which will feature 600 rooms in a 27-story tower above a four-story podium. The public areas will include a restaurant, a lobby bar and lounge, retail space and, possibly, a green roof on the lower-slung part of the building and some sort of public space atop the hotel. Plans include 55,000 square feet of meeting space. http://www.cleveland.com/cityhall/index.ssf/2013/12/cleveland_city_council_passes.html#incart_m-rpt-2
  9. Has there been any indication how the Aloft hotel has been doing since it opened??? I have heard a bit about its WXYZ bar and some events that have gone on there, but I would hope that the hotel has been busy / booked, etc over these past few months.
  10. Here's a pic from yesterday as I was driving downtown. Not too spectacular, but it's nice to see work being done on this corner!!!
  11. Here's a couple of the renderings from the Cleveland.com story. The Metropolitan at the 9 is lookin good!!! http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2013/10/ameritrust_redo_will_include_a.html#incart_river#incart_m-rpt-2
  12. I thought I remembered seeing a rendering with a red M up on the top of the building, same as the M in "The M on 9th" construction fence sign. I cant seem to find that image now though. It will be interesting to see what it ends up being though. Not only an occupied building with interior lights, but also lit up on the outside with some sort of signage (hopefully)?!?!?
  13. ^ weird to see Euclid Ave before all the Healthline reconstruction. I remember it prior to the changes, but I'm just so used to it after all the changes.
  14. This "deep maroon" was the original color, the previous darker color was from the building being dirty.
  15. Yea, I didnt even notice them missing until you mentioned it. Damn!!!
  16. Yep, there's windows facing north. This is a google maps shot from W.9th of the corner of W.9th and Front Ave.
  17. Looks like the Port of Cleveland has the sign up on it's new building!!!
  18. Will the windows in the building need to be replaced?? I'm not sure how exactly long it's be sitting empty, but I was thinking that without any type of maintenance for a period of years they might have some leak issues?? If they were replaced then that might also give the building a slightly different look.
  19. What does the "M" in "The M on 9th" stand for??
  20. Those pics remind me a bit of the inside of the Westside Market. That's how I'm imagining this Heinen's will look.
  21. I was wondering what this was going to be connected to ...
  22. I've seen that plastic up there for so long, I cant wait to start seeing windows going in!!!
  23. I've periodically checked both webcams - http://www.flatseast.com/webcam & http://www.earthcam.com/flatseastbank and they both seem to be "stuck" on January 10th & 11th???
