  1. ^That's kinda fun. Is there a reason the floating restaurants are all on the NKY side? And has anyone considered cleaning up the riverbank near the entrances to these fine dining establishments?
  2. These pop up dinners bode well for Cincy's dining scene
  3. Prep work has begun at Washington Park for the Cincinnati Open: http://www.blogotr.com/otr/avp-cincinnati-open-prep-begins-at-washington-park/
  4. Aren't cars always supposed to yield to pedestrians? Don't pedestrians have the right of way? I was just talking to someone about mid-blog crosswalks. There are a couple in Cincinnati but it would be really nice to see more. Exactly, you don't get it. Most people are terrified of riding their bikes in traffic, thus they won't do it. That's why countries like Denmark and the Netherlands can get close to 50% of trips done by bike. Because they have all sorts of separate side paths and bike-only paths and calmed residential streets then grandma and the kids and trendy women in skirts can ride comfortably. When cyclists' only option is to ride with the rest of traffic then you get 1-2% of trips done by bike and only by the mostly fearless spandex crowd. If everyone was like you then we wouldn't need separate bike routes because everyone would be fine riding in mixed traffic, but they aren't, so they don't. Why is this so difficult to understand? jjakucyk has a point. I tend to think bikes deserve more of their own separate infrastructure.
  5. ^thanks for making that, taestell

read all about the Bellevue Incline here: http://www.blogotr.com/otr/the-bellevue-incline-and-elm-street-steps/ "From 1875 to 1895 this building was McMicken Hall, University of Cincinnati’s Academic Department. From 1896 to 1917 it became the University’s first medical college, and from 1920 to 1925 it became the Law School. This building can be seen in these cards next to the incline. Commuters often complained about the medical students habit of waving dismembered arms & legs out the windows at the female passengers as the trolleys passed. Next to the school was the Schoenling Brewery where the freezer was used for both cadavers and beer."

They can only be seen at the Museum Center library. There are several thousand prints in the collection and they are categorized in broad subject areas like adults, children, housing, etc and some by Social Service agency. Also, all of the thousands of negatives have been microfilmed and put on microfiche and can be viewed that way. Virtually the whole collection can be viewed in the library. Its hours are 12-5 Mon-Fri and 10-5 on Sat.

I updated the post to reflect the fact that Paul Briol was the photographer. Someone left a comment on the post that tipped me off. Here's a view of Mohawk Pl from cincinnatimemory: This thread is for all historic photos of Cincinnati
  12. Phase V is what they've been working on for the past several months. Here's a post about it from August 2011 and a map: http://www.blogotr.com/otr/3cdcs-gateway-quarter-phase-v/

29 photographs provide a breathtaking glimpse into the Queen City’s past. http://www.blogotr.com/otr/beautiful-historic-photos-of-cincinnati/ A teaser:
  14. Yeah, weird. People want something that's unique and local and cheap and yummy. Cincinnati is being spammed with the same unworthy architecture and uninspired chain food places.

Beautiful photos. Tragic there's so much tension between Iran and so many other countries. I'd love to visit Tehran.
  17. I'm watching the pregame on FSN Ohio before the second game in this doubleheader. The announcers were saying how a lot of the Reds now 'live across the street' and had the chance to go home between games and eat out of their own refrigerator. So I guess that means the Banks?

  19. There's a Gold Star at Tower Place Mall too... This discussion reminds me of Primanti Brothers in Pittsburgh. There are several between downtown and the University of Pittsburgh. I always try to visit one of them when I'm in town. It's tasty, cheap and very Pittsburgh. Can't think of a chain like that in Cincinnati's urban core. But there are several unique chili parlors around Cincinnati (and NKY)...just not downtown.
  20. You know, for all the talk about Cincinnati chili, there really aren't that many chili parlors between UC and the river.
  21. When the streetcar finally has its grand opening, Mark will hopefully regain his sanity. If not, seppuku remains an option. Death above dishonor!

Oh man, the USA TODAY article has unleashed hipster hell...they are none too pleased about it. It's officially mainstream and therefore all downhill from here.

from the portlandia facebook page. i had no idea trust funds were so prominent among hipsters. maybe in brooklyn...or maybe a true hipster (as in 'hip') is kinda like a lazy, PC, yuppie? also, from USA TODAY: Brooklyn rebounds as the new bohemia http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-07-26/brooklyn-rebirth-hip-bohemia-nets/57038550/1
