  1. I recommend that you check it out.
  2. So this is really weird. The OTR blog has been receiving a few hits today from an odd blog called "Republicans for Higher Taxes" because one of its posts from today linked to the OTR blog's post about Cunningham lauding OTR and how Sean Donovan supports the streetcar. The Republicans for Higher Taxes blog reminds me of the Screwtape Letters. http://republicans4highertaxes.blogspot.com/2012/08/streetcar-supporter-sean-donovan-part-2.html
  3. here are some recent pics including two of the pile of tires. Cygnus - I used your photos too - thanks! http://www.blogotr.com/otr/construction-prep-at-mercer-commons/
  4. I imagine the keg sales could be very popular --- especially with UC students.

It's a fad. There is sort of this ideological "green' thing going on, but also a lot of hipsterish styling, too. Taken together its become a trendy thing. Like "lofts" and urban farming and indy coffeeshops and "craft beer". Thinking back I'm trying to recall what started that big bike boom back in the 1970s. The bike boom in the 70s might have been a result of the trifecta of anti-establishment hippie culture, the oil crisis, and (i'm not sure on this) the greater availability of cheaper bikes (imports and such). There was also a general youth culture that blossomed with the birth of the teenager. Certainly the bike culture today is part fad but I think there is a semblance of permanence to it - sprawlville and driving isn't as attractive as it used to be. Urban living is more popular with all age groups - from baby boomers to young adults - the ease, affordability and proliferation (of the idea) of bike infrastructure also makes it a real transit choice that it hasn't been for a long time. So - part fad, part reality. I'm not drawn to biking because it's environmentally friendly, hipsterish, or provides a social community --- I just like to ride and dislike driving/parking.

  12. And there's at least one more in the works that hasn't been announced. I think more restaurants are a great thing. They tend to be the leading edge of development. Once Phase V is complete and Mercer Commons is online as well as some of the other projects (non-3CDC) - that's when I think you'll start seeing a greater diversity of development.

  14. The comments were almost universally highly critical of both COAST and the Enquirer's shoddy, enabling coverage of them. The comments also linked to the the accurate of what happened at the hearing on UrbanCincy. Comments only disappear when they're critical of the Enquirer or their pet projects (COAST, Brent Spence Replacement, etc). Ahhh, ok - now I get it. I very rarely look at the Enquirer comments. That's pretty low though. What a shady operation. I wonder what clown really has the power at the Enquirer's site. Probably some mid-level guy no one has ever heard of...without any oversight. Thanks for explaining it. Good write up in UrbanCincy - glad someone covered it.

  17. What is the significance of the comments disappearing (other than that's not how it's supposed to work)?
  18. I was at the Banks before the Bengals game and of course it was packed. About an hour before kickoff, there was an hour wait at the Moerlein Lager House, 15 minute wait at Crave, and Johnny Rockets was packed. Not sure about times at Toby Keith's or Mahogany's - though they were busy. It was nice to see the crowds downtown but the Banks isn't really my style, FWIW. It says opening Fall 2012 on the signage.
