That's nice! To be honest, I think there's too much blue - not necessarily aesthetically but because I wouldn't want to print it out. That's probably just me. I'm kind of curious to see how it would look if you did what thomasbw suggested: The second idea really makes me curios because the blue "waves" could symbolize the canal and the river. I tried a number of different iterations and this one worked best. I've had hundreds of flags printed on paper and the blue rarely bleeds. The few full scale flags turned out beautifully. I've always viewed the Red wave as the Miami and Erie Canal because of the way it surrounds the center the way the canal surrounded the neighborhood. The other two waves are the Licking and the Ohio in my mind, but they're really just symbolic of the water that flows through all parts of our city. Yeah, the printing thing is a stupid little pet peeve of mine but totally worth it. I really like the flag as is. I want to do a post on it and maybe have a little neighborhood flag competition someday. If you ever try out the other versions, feel free to send them my way at otrmatters@gmail so I can get feedback from others on which one they like best. The blue background is pretty nice - the two waves could be the Licking and Ohio and the rest could be the "Rhine" haha

    Updated the post. Thanks.
  4. Maybe this whole tempest in a teapot was just a way for "the Duke team" to take a couple trips. This drama is pathetic. Like they have to go anywhere to know what to do. Hopefully, this will be resolved soon though. On the contrary, I am relieved they are finally dragging their asses to Portland. These issues appears to be pretty cut and dry. I'm relieved too. I'm frankly surprised that Duke hasn't been to Portland already - they seem like some of the first Cincinnatians I would take on a city trip there.

I wrote a post about Cincinnati's flag. Thought some of you might enjoy it: http://overtherhine.wordpress.com/2012/03/01/civic-iconography-raising-the-queen-citys-standard/
  6. This situation immediately puts Mahogany's at an additional disadvantage. It's important that the Banks be inclusive and diverse - and it does say something that Dohoney backed the project - but there had to have been other, more qualified (and well known) black run businesses to lure to the Banks than Mahogany's, right? Moreover, the optics of the deal are horrible. Let's hope this is the end of the drama and Mahogany's does well.
  7. It doesn't surprise me at all to see Sittenfeld sway with the majority. No one who voted for this will be able to run on a platform of financial accountability. I'm glad Seelbach was in the opposition. Not that Enquirer polls matter, but right now the question "Do you think City Council should have approved financing for Mahogany's to open at The Banks?" is 241 No to 24 Yes - that's 9 to 1 against Comments from a few young FB friends (of various races) who run businesses/work in the basin: "Get in line down at City Hall, they are giving money away. 5% down can't even buy you a house" "Holy S#%t! Where's my $900,000? I mean...wow!" "Thanks to Chris Seelbach, Smitherman and Qualls for standing up for what is right and responsible. Not sure what is wrong with the other members that voted for this, blatant disregard for what is right. I give it two years tops." "I don't think it is a good move either. Restaurants are notoriously bad investments" A subprime loan is bad enough but a grant? Doesn't seem very prudent especially in this budget environment. From the Enquirer article:

What is your point? Cincinnati has its own identity? Sorry, I'm just not following... Also, the Reds have their own typeface...though not as steeped in history. HAHAHA - poor Cleveland
  10. Bunbury is going to be sweet right on the river.

Speaking of spelling, which is correct: Cincinnista or Cincinista?

Do you think cities would benefit from their own typefaces? http://overtherhine.wordpress.com/2012/02/28/could-cincinnati-benefit-from-its-own-typeface/

This is a fun thread - Cincinnati should emphasize its Art Deco a little more I think.
  14. We've wandered off topic but maybe Cincinnati could capitalize on its aggressive creepers with a new slogan: Keep Cincinnati Creepy
  15. I put together a post of some pics and the Queen City Project's video of the Moerlein Lager House: http://overtherhine.wordpress.com/2012/02/27/moerlein-lager-house-opening-photos/
  16. There isn't a definite boundary. It's more like the vicinity around the remaining historic breweries which happens to be north of Liberty in OTR...with a few sites in the West End. I tend to think of it as OTR north of Liberty and bounded by McMicken and Central. From the Brewery District website: iRhine.com tends to define it as an area north of Findlay Market - http://www.irhine.com/index.jsp?page=district_brew via http://www.irhine.com/index.jsp?page=map_intro Personally, I'd like to think of everything north of Liberty as the "Northern Liberties" with subareas like Findlay Market, Mohawk, etc. as well as an overlay of the Brewery District which includes a couple sites in the West End. Mohawk: That's kind of a rambling post.

There's market demand for both types of apartments. I think the rental statistics in DT & OTR speak to this. Vacancies are close to 0%. Right and the point with this project is to do it right and not miss an opportunity to expand the CBD's offerings. A sqautty apartment bldg won't take DT to the next level like a 15 story tower would. I'm very curious to know when we may know more. Anyone have any ideas of a timeline?
  20. Over-the-Rhine stakes its claim as Cincinnati's restaurant hot spot: http://overtherhine.wordpress.com/2012/02/25/over-the-rhine-is-cincinnatis-restaurant-hot-spot/

  22. Agreed. Genius idea. What would the pros and cons of it be? How would you sell the idea?
  23. Very glad to see the plan coming along!
