Over The Rhine urban morphology masters theses: wow!
I think it is probably pre-Civil War. I guess the word would be antebellum but I hesitate to use that word to refer to a "Northern" city. That's just my guess.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Mercer Commons
From this image yo can imagine how it would look from the street. It looks like it has some erratic concrete or metal panel facade system in the rendering. In any case, it looks like it wasn't forgotten about. Thanks very much, Ram23! I don't know how I overlooked that angle.

Over The Rhine urban morphology masters theses: wow!
In one of your above posts you shared this photo of the building at Walnut and Mercer that 3CDC wants to tear down: When do you think it was built? The auditor site says 1880 but that could be wrong. I've written a bit about it here: http://overtherhine.wordpress.com/2011/07/22/the-fate-of-1329-walnut-and-mercer-commons/ And renderings of what 3CDC plans to replace it with: http://overtherhine.wordpress.com/2011/07/24/mercer-commons-renderings/ http://overtherhine.wordpress.com/2011/07/28/the-most-recent-mercer-commons-renderings/

I'm wondering what it will looking like from this angle:

I guess it doesn't matter much.

This is speculation, but it might look like the part of it seen in this rendering:

sean, thanks. you're right about the garage. i'm not too worried about the garage. more curiosity than anything. i'd like to see a rendering of it from vine street just south of where 1314 Vine now stands.

I'm intrigued by this OTR thesis. I'm going to look for it. If you remember anything about it that may help me find it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks

The streetcar's not a done deal? Aside from the absurd rail banning amendment, the streetcar's future couldn't be more sure...right? How many is "many"?

Over-The-Rhine Neighborhood Has No Apartments For Rent LOCAL 12 http://www.local12.com/news/local/story/Over-The-Rhine-Neighborhood-Has-No-Apartments-For/GiEXU-tJEkqXJsBef2UBbQ.cspx A few years ago, would never have described Over-The-Rhine as a booming neighborhood. But now, Over-The-Rhine, and in particular the neighborhood called the Gateway Quarter has been rehabbed, upscaled and rebranded. Believe it or not you can't find an apartment to rent at any price. To give you a sense of how hot this area is when it comes to rental properties, earlier today Local 12's Rich Jaffe talked with a very well known rental agent who represents 600 units. He's on vacation in Maine, because they're all rented and he has nothing to do. He won't have anything available until September and it's the same all through this neighborhood. Bottom line: if you want to rent an apartment here, you'd better get in line.

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
The fact that Bortz can't vote for the streetcar is a damned shame. Also, the Cincinnati NAACP ought to disband over its opposition to the streetcar. What is wrong with these people? On 6/25, Mary Kuhl posted the following on the Cincy ASS group: "OK all you City if Cincinnati residents...have you signed the petition to get the streetcar on the ballot so WE the people can decide once and for all that we want/don't want it as opposed to the politicians deciding for us! If you are a city resident meaning you live in the actual city of Cincinnati and are a registered voter please let me know here on FB or send me a message on FB and I can get you a petition in the next day. We are getting down to our "crunch time " and we need as many signatures as we can get!!" To Mary "once and for all" must really mean "once every two years"

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Mercer Commons
Mercer Commons takes shape 9:33 PM, Jul. 30, 2011 Lisa Bernard-Kuhn http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20110731/BIZ01/307310002/Mercer-Commons-takes-shape ... So far, Harris said, he’s not aware that a planned development has ever been presented or approved in a historic district. In August, Munitz expects 3CDC will have its first round of hearings before the city planning commission. Last week, the group voluntarily submitted its plan before the historic board to get its feedback, and Munitz said he expects that communication will continue as the project moves forward. He doesn’t agree that 3CDC is taking advantage of a loophole in the city zoning codes. “Our design team got a lot of good comments (from the board) that we’ll consider as we refine the project before our full submission,” he said.

Very detailed research, Jeffery. Impressive. Any chance you've ever researched Over-the-Rhine like this?

I'm interested to know what the parking garage will actually look like. You can see a peak of the garage here: And the garage looks like it will have a flat brick wall facing Vine.

Cincinnati: "Queen City" reality TV show
It's a four week show made by Cincinnati State and airs after the late night local news on Sunday. It's not Bravo and it's not MTV, but so what? It is produced well and shows off a great urban environment. The city looks good and that's refreshing to see in HD. Gawker hated it because Gawker is for haters. Who cares what Gawker thinks? Anyone? And for those who like to pick apart the lives of people on TV, how would your life look if it was shrunk down into a 20 minute segment of "reality TV"? Kudos to the ladies for doing their thing regardless of the scrutiny. Good job, Cincinnati. FYI: Episode 3 will have a good bit of OTR.

Yeah, or reuse bricks by turning them on their side. But with Mercer being so big, I was thinking they might put in new. Just wondering.
