So how long will Cincinnati's progress be held up by Duke? Will we keep accepting excuses ad infinitum?
  2. what are the chances the streetcar could be complete by july 2015? is it even possible?

Having the streetcar open by July 2015 should be a top priority. Connecting the Banks, Ftn Sqr, OTR, Washington Park and Findlay Market would multiply the effect of the ASL.

  5. What will Cincinnati look like in 2015? (slideshow circa May 2012) http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?avis=ab&dato=20120509&kategori=news06&lopenr=205090801&ref=ph The only time I ever hear about COAST is on UrbanOhio. I'm getting pretty tired of it too.
  6. Same. It's on its website too: http://www.inclinepublichouse.com Such + Such made its sign:
  7. Carew Tower could go residential http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20130117/NEWS/301170139 One day you might be able to live in Downtown’s landmark Carew Tower. “Active discussions” are underway about converting turn the 49-story building into residential, Vice Mayor Roxanne Qualls told The Enquirer in an interview today.
  8. Interestingly, that building had very few windows...
  9. Venue 222 is another option http://venue222.com/
  10. The Moerlein brewery/event space is another good option.
  11. What time of the day will you hold the competition? Japp's/Japp's Annex could work.
  12. This is not good news. Both Cleveland and Pittsburgh have downtown and suburban BB stores (I'm assuming the BB in Tower City is still open). Pittsburgh's downtown store is one of the best I've ever visited. Fountain Place store wasn't as impressive but I never had a complaint about the service - and certainly not the quality. Hopefully, this says more about BB's cost cutting than it does about downtown Cincinnati.
  13. The teeth-gnashing is expected and understandable but at the end of the day Core owns the entire city block and (fingers crossed) saving the building and filling it with market-rate tenants. Sad to lose the western half of the park but it's hard to imagine or suggest a feasible alternative that provides parking adjacent to the building (not across the street).
  14. This entire episode demonstrates the need for a new plan and capable leadership to address the issue of parking around Main Street and Pendleton. Better utilization of existing parking facilities and investment in a well-placed garage or two could solve many current problems that are sure to only grow as this area continues to attract new residents and visitors. Insufficient/poorly allocated parking can diminish a neighborhood's potential. If more streets become permitted for residents, businesses could suffer and that would be the start of a vicious cycle. I think the Peaslee bldg, Woodward lot, and Ziegler Park will receive greater scrutiny from some neighbors.
  15. If you'd like to listen to the meeting to hear John Watson in his own words, there is an audio link at the bottom of the OTR Blog's summary: Summary: http://www.blogotr.com/otr/summary-of-former-scpa-development-meeting-01092013/ Audio: http://www.blogotr.com/otr/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/20130109-184002.m4a
  16. File this one under the thread about city rankings - http://www.forbes.com/sites/jacquelynsmith/2013/01/09/the-happiest-and-unhappiest-cities-to-work-in-right-now/
  17. a few more details of what may be presented tomorrow http://www.blogotr.com/otr/core-redevelopment-to-unveil-plans-for-old-scpa-tomorrow/
  18. Correct. It's also about being a nice neighborhood that has to deal with the challenge/luxury of attracting large crowds of people (ie Main Street bars/music venues). The pissoir is a great idea that's been bantered about at the neighborhood level (especially around Main/Orchard) for awhile. I think those might have a future in Cincinnati as well.
  19. Interesting that the rendering shows a streetcar in front of Parvis Lofts on Vine - somewhere not on the route.
  20. Because a majority of the people who defecate in public prefer to spend their money (what little they have) on other goods and services.
  21. A friend recently moved back to Cincinnati. We went out this weekend and spent most of our time out at the Metropole bar/21c museuem, Kaze and Quan Hapa. Those three places are all brand new and on a whole new level for the city. The changes happening in Cincinnati are really incredible. EDIT: Also, Senate is now open for lunch 11a-2p on Saturday. Blue Wisp Jazz club might go out after their big move/expansion into the restaurant biz. Before they moved, they were considering coming to OTR. They would have been wise to do so. If Blue Wisp closes, I hope it is reincarnated somewhere in OTR.
  22. Kinda sad something like this: Wasn't done to this: Oh well, water under the bridge now.

  24. looking forward to the mercer commons garage opening in the spring. it will probably be a popular place to park for the kaze/quan hapa crowd
  25. Maybe those renderings show a modified set of serpentine-like steps - with ramps/stairs breaking them up. Also, in the top rendering, what is the squiggly blue line along the shore?
