  1. With SW coming to CVG, does mean the pursuit of Jetblue is over?
  2. It's probably been about a year since I've been there, but I've been to Proof probably 6 or 7 times and I never had a bad experience. Hopefully it was just an off night.
  3. He did the same thing when Tropicana closed at the Levee. He blamed in on not want to rebrand the restaurant when he lost the suit over the name, but if that restaurant had been making $$ he would have changed the name in a heartbeat and never missed a dinner service.
  4. While I was in the Gaslight last night I heard that the VFW had just voted and it was to sell. This will absolutely ruin the PR business district if it happens.
  5. A picture of Banks & Smale Riverfront Park from the top of Carew Tower yesterday. <img src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7137/6996698572_c2d3d8a14c_c.jpg">
  6. I think the white is just primer. I was down there last night and there were some other colors on the building.
  7. A realtor told me a few months ago that a Thai place had signed a letter of intent for one of the spaces I believe in the 1300 block of Vine.
  8. I have found a bright side to most of the announcements at the Banks, but WTF is the deal with two chain country music bars at the Banks? Cincinnati has been doing just fine with none, so adding one...I suppose it's something new. But two, really?? Maybe they can fill the rest of their spaces with piano bars. If they need a chain I would have rather seen a House of Blues type venue down there than a a second country bar. Maybe they'll sell wrist bands that get you into both bars during the weekend and have a mini redneck Midpoint.
  9. Thanks for the pics!! Everything is really coming along down there.
  10. Anyone that's is interested in NK should definitely read Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick. Book Descripion: A National Book Award finalist and National Book Critics Circle finalist, Barbara Demick’s Nothing to Envy is a remarkable view into North Korea, as seen through the lives of six ordinary citizens Nothing to Envy follows the lives of six North Koreans over fifteen years—a chaotic period that saw the death of Kim Il-sung, the unchallenged rise to power of his son Kim Jong-il, and the devastation of a far-ranging famine that killed one-fifth of the population. Taking us into a landscape most of us have never before seen, award-winning journalist Barbara Demick brings to life what it means to be living under the most repressive totalitarian regime today—an Orwellian world that is by choice not connected to the Internet, in which radio and television dials are welded to the one government station, and where displays of affection are punished; a police state where informants are rewarded and where an offhand remark can send a person to the gulag for life. http://www.amazon.com/Nothing-Envy-Ordinary-Lives-North/dp/0385523904
  11. My guess is the delay on the townhouse construction has to do with the financing they were able to get prior to starting the project. If I remember correctly, they wanted to include condos in the first phase, but were forced to go entirely with rental units because no one was financing new condo construction with the housing downturn. Right now their focus is probably on finishing the existing build and then filling the residential and commercial spaces already there. Once that is all established there will certainly be more interest from hotel operators and people looking to buy townhomes.
  12. Construction has not started on those yet.
  13. Someone didn't close a gate...so here's some iphone pics of the Event Lawn/Moerlein House area from Sunday  Looking at the lawn toward the Moerlein House Some shots of the stage Looking back at the Moerlein House Looking from the lawn at the Current apartments
  14. I agree about the design, but anything will look better than a car dealership in the middle of campus.
  15. Ridge Pointe - Former Kmart site in Columbia Twp: Columbia Twp., developer near deal Columbia Township and Neyer Properties are just days from completing a deal that has been approximately five years in the making. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/eyeontheeastside/2011/04/07/columbia-twp-developer-near-deal/
  16. Yeah better keep practicing before you post again  Seriously though that is the best Cincinnati photo thread I've seen on here. Those were amazing!
  17. Sounds like there will be some new announcements in the next month or so. Cincinnati's Restaurant Row steadily filling up The row of retail space in downtown Cincinnati on Sixth Street between Main and Walnut streets may be completely full of restaurants and bars in the near future. 18. Metropole Renovation Still In Limbo Delays Hamper Planned Renovation CINCINNATI -- The renovation of the Metropole building was supposed to be well under way, but remaking it into a world-class hotel and arts venue might not start for many more months. The Metropole was supposed to be empty three months ago, but the old downtown landmark, the last remaining spot undeveloped on the Walnut Street block, is still populated. http://www.wlwt.com/news/26719020/detail.html
  19. Good call on going with Neon's and Japp's :-D
  20. Maybe their food will be good, but the lameness of the name "Slammin' Burger" is only outdone by the 1994 quality of their website.
  21. The Verdin Bell Event Center in Pendelton is a really cool place with a lot of history & character. My brother in law had his wedding & reception there. http://www.belleventcentre.com/asp/index.asp
  22. Slims/ Vout closes Slims in Northside, which is also called Vout during the week, has closed. Owner/chef Patrick McCafferty says it was after a lot of agonizing, but that it has been a struggle for last last 2 years, and that this fall was a disaster. “It was a good idea, it’s been well-received and we had a great run,” he said, “But at a certain point, you just have to say yea or nay, and now was the time.” http://cincinnati.com/blogs/dining/2010/12/01/slims-vout/ I was sad to read that Slim's closed this morning. It was not without it's flaws: dinner could take hours, the building had no a/c in the summer, and they often ran out of items if you didn't get there early. However, it more than made up for its quirks with it's originality, fresh ingredients, and damn good food. I hadn't eaten there in a while, but it was always one of my favorites.
  23. I know someone mentioned after they lit the birdcage that you can see the top of GAT at night from Montgomery Rd in Norwood by Sorrento's. Last night I noticed that you can see it even a little farther away in Amberley Village, just south of the old Ridgewood Golf course on Ridge.
  24. The title of this article and the way the story is framed rubbed me the wrong way. The answer to that question of course is "no", a casino alone will not revitalize downtown Cincinnati and anyone paying attention knows that 3CDC already IS revitalizing downtown Cincinnati. Is there anyone really counting on this casino to be a panacea? To pose the question in that manner and then go on to chronicle how casinos alone did not instantly transform Detroit's econcomy is ridiculous. What can the Casino do for downtown Cincinnati? Provide an additional stream of tax revenue, sweeten Cincy's bid for conventions, bring additional investment to North Main St. & Pendelton, enhance existing entertainment options, put more guests into DT hotels, add a few jobs, etc. Mark Mallory summed up my opinion when he said, "We've already seen a resurgence downtown. There's a lot going on, and a casino will just add to it".
  25. That's exactly what I was thinking. Putting this development on the bridge seems unnecessarily complicated when there is land on the Cincy side. It also sounds like they're trying to build NOTL on top of a bridge right next to NOTL. I'll believe this one when I see it.
