Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
You're right that this could be totally random and unrelated to the club, but bars and clubs have to be responsible for the people they are bringing into a neighborhood. If my next door neighbor has a party at his house and one of his guests throws a bottle through my front window, I would consider him a bad neighbor for not controlling the people he invited over. Sure - my neighbor didn't actually throw the bottle - but the guy that did would not have been in my neighborhood if my neighbor didn't invite him. If you want to run a bar in a residential area (urban or otherwise) an important component of that is not pissing off the people that live around your business - ask the owners of R.P. McMurphys. The people of Oakley did not appreciate the rowdy ELEMENT that they brought in.

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Because bars & clubs are responsible for the types of crowds they attract and the element that they bring into the neighborhoods where they operate.

Cincinnati: Oakley: Midtown Centre
I think it's probably safe to stick a fork in the Millworks project as it was envisioned, but I wonder what effect this will have on future development in the surround area, such as the former Home Depot Expo site and the properties that had been acquired for Millworks? It is a prime location with great visibility and highway access so I would not be surprised to more follow as soon as this get underway. I still think a movie theater is a great idea for this area because the Norwood Showcase is a prehistoric dump and Kenwood only has a few screens. if I remember correctly City Council voted to approve funding for the Kennedy Connector, but was that contingent on the Millworks project happening? The surrounding roads in this area are ill equipped to handle the traffic they have now so I really hope that improving that aspect is part of this project.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI ate at Via Vite on Saturday night with my wife and friends of ours from CBus. The place was packed and had a great ambiance; I agree with the others that said it was reminiscent of Bella. I don't want to be overly critical because it was probably only the 3rd or 4th night that they really were busy and much of the staff is brand new, but here goes... The Good: we were seated right away, there was a lively crowd at the bar, it has a beautiful interior space, and the Lamb Shank was probably the best I've ever had. The bad: They were out of a number of wine selections & vodka, two of our salads came out after the entrees and several reminders, my wife's penne was undercooked (not al dente), and our friend said that his linguine with crab was kind of bland. Because it's so new I was not surprised about having a few hiccups in the service or them being out of a few types of wine, but I thought more the egregious errors were one dish being bland and the pasta in another not being cooked properly. On the otherhand, those are probably the easiest things to correct and the lamb - which requires more skill to execute - was done perfectly. Overall it was a pretty good experience and I will definitely be back. Nicola's is my favorite restaurant in the city so I faith that all of the kinks at Via Vite will be worked out in time. David - I kept an eye out for you to say hello, but I either didn't see you or didn't recognize you from your pictures on here.

PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI know you are asking about entrees, but I see on the website that Via Vite has the Boucheron Goat Cheese salad on their menu that they serve at Nicola's. I am not really a big a fan of goat cheese, but damn that salad is good!

PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI'll second that one. Mio's has a damn good chicago style deep dish. As far as NY Style by the slice - Ramundo's in Mt. Lookout is only one I can think of around me. It's just so-so. The Flying Pizza in Dayton & Cbus have great NY slices (and Sicilian), but the one in Mason is pretty inconsistant and I've never been very fond of Fratelli's.

The Destruction of Warren Street (& a bit of Brown) (D8N)
My favorite bar when I went to UD & it was still Walnut Hills. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but there was always a lot going on inside. Is it being torn down? <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v240/Jeff59c/Lower%20South%20Park/Destruction%20of%20Warren/WarrenSt3.jpg">

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI know it wasn't their choice to leave their present location downtown, but it was announced today that Federal Reserve is officially moving to NOTL :x I just don't see that place thriving in a glorified mall. They did say they'll try to open a second location downtown. Federal Reserve takes a table at the Levee Business Courier of Cincinnati - 10:43 AM EDT Thursday, September 20, 2007 by Lisa Biank Fasig Staff Reporter http://www.bizjournals.com/search/results?Ntk=All&Ntx=mode matchallpartial&Ntt=%22%22 The Federal Reserve Restaurant and Piano Lounge, which is moving following the sale of its lease at the end of September, has chosen to relocate to Newport on the Levee because it could not find an affordable downtown location that could accommodate it quickly. PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI'm really glad to see that Cincinnati restaurants have picked up on this concept. It's a great opportunity to try someplace that you've never been to or can't normally fit in the budget. I was in South Beach this weekend and they were having their version of restaurant week called Miami Spice. We ate at Govind Armstong's Table 8 which offered the $35 three course "Spice menu". It was a great deal since my entree normally costs that much by itself; however, the $18 cocktails will still get you every time :drunk:

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI heard a rumor on Friday that the old Chili Company location in Oakley is going to become a Fatburger. I did a google search today for "Fatburger & Cincinnati" and there are job postings on CareerBuilder for an Asst. Mgr for an Oakley location so it must be coming fairly soon. I believe Willie Anderson of the Bengals is the owner. According to his player page from the Bengals website: "Owns an investment company called Think B.I.G. Inc., which owns rights to 20 Fatburger franchises to be built in the Cincinnati and Atlanta markets" If you are not familiar with Fatburger, it is a west coast hamburger joint that not surprisingly makes some large burgers. Hopefully they will keep late night hours to replace the post-bar void the Chili Company left. I'm not big on chains, but their burgers are pretty good and I think this will be a decent add to the area. http://www.fatburger.com/home/

lima: lunch at the kewpee diner
I with you on that one...creepy. I had never heard of it, but we randomly stopped there about two years ago and the three of us that went still talk about how unnerving the naked dolls everywhere were. I was reassured by the hamburger wrapper that indicated it was "clean" though. Good frosty though!

PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentIn one of the stanger sources for downtown development news...I heard Jeff Ruby this morning on the Howard Stern show. Without going into great detail about how this came about, Ruby said that he is working on developing an entertainment district in Cincinnati and he had chatted up Nick Lachey at the Derby because he wanted him to think about doing something next to the proposed Bootsy Ruby's.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentThere are pleny in the area - just not in Cincinnati. There are a bunch of inexpensive authentic Mexican joints in NKY particularly around Florence - Rio Grande, El Pueblito, Camino Real, Alcupalco, Taquerio Mercado to name a few- same thing around Fairfield to the north. It just seems that most of the Hispanic population located to the north and south of the area near the 275 loop so thats where those places are. I would suggest El Rio Grande in Newport. It's authentic, fairly inexpensive, the food is good, and it's not too far South if you live in Ohio (exit 3 off of 471, Grand Ave). I hit it for lunch all the time and it is always packed.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
PRidgeFlyer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionGrasscat has the right spot, but the plans I saw the other night appear as if this development would not meet up with Burkhart - it would only be accessable via Tudor. Tudor would be the entry road off of Losantiville and there would be two parallel steets running perpendicular to Tudor on the right. The first right would be an access road on for people to enter their detached garages from the rear of the property. The second would be the main road that would front the properties. Also part of the plan was for several additional larger homes that would be built on land adjacent to the Ridge Club golf course, but the deal for that land is still being negotiated.
