Have you been to the Bond Hill Showcase recently? I hardly consider that a bad thing. And Super Wal-Mart already has designs on Fairfax.

Movie theater may be in the (Mill)works BY FORREST SELLERS | COMMUNITY PRESS STAFF WRITER OAKLEY - The proposed Millworks project may include a 3,400-seat movie theater. Top 5 cities you want to visit
Top 5 I want to visit: 1. Reykjavik 2. Tokyo 2. Hong Kong 4. Cape Town 5. Vancouver Just for fun, here are my top 5 cities I have visited: 1. NYC, good ole USofA 2. Krakow, Poland 3. St. Petersburg, Russia 4. Capri, Italy 5. Lucerne, Switzerland And maybe less fun...here are the top 5 cities where I felt like money was being literally being Hoovered out of my pockets: 1. Helsinki, Finland - maybe I was being charged triple since I can't make heads or tails of their alphabet 2. Paris, France -last year on my way home from India I stopped over in Paris where I managed to spend more money in 48 hours there than I had in the entire month before that in Bangalore 3. NYC - $10 beers will kill you everytime 4. Las Vegas - staying awake 24 straight hours means 24 straight hours of blowing cash. 5. Montreal - not cheap and the weak dollar doesn't do you any favors.

Cincinnati: Clifton Heights: U Square @ the Loop
I agree with you. Leaving it in the current state is the worst possible thing to do. If it was leveled and had grass it least it would be a temp greenspace. Or if they added a temporary surface lot that would help some of the businesses located there until they have something concrete in place.

Dubai: Developments and News
You are right, it's not nearly as cool as your jaded take on everything. Seemingly every post that I read from you on this board comes across as cynical & condescending. You are obviously an intelligent person, yet you still feel it necessary to debate with someone the merits of what they personally find to be interesting. I don't think David was trying to convince you to spend your hard earned money on a plane ticket to Dubai or knocking the national park system in this country. He was saying that he finds one of the world's largest construction projects to be pretty facsinating; as I do, and as I am sure many others do as well. You obviously find it interesting enought to keep posting on this thread.

Cincinnati: Random Development and News
PRidgeFlyer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionI hate to see more empty big box locations in the Ridge Highland area, but that piece of crap can't close soon enough! If Dante were to write the Inferno today, the Highland Wal Mart would most assuredly be one of his circles of hell.

PRidgeFlyer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Southwest Ohio Projects & ConstructionThey are going to have landscaping of some sort along the sides that should break up the exposed concrete below the brick. The house is self was just completed and the builder just added topsoil between the sidewalk and the house yesterday.

Tribute to a friend of OTR
I'm not sure if this is the place to post this, but I feel like UrbanOhio.com is the most fitting forum for me to say something about a friend who has passed. On Monday Sep 4th, Cincinnati and OTR lost a resident, neighbor, supporter and dedicated urbanist in Tony Gulden. Tony, a former co-worker and someone I am proud to call a friend, lost his battle with cancer. I met Tony about 5 years ago and the first thing that I knew about him is that he was a proud Pendleton resident who had very strong feelings about the resurgence of downtown/OTR and was passionate about the cause. Being a fairly new resident to Cincinnati when I met Tony, he was the one that got me interested in the revitalization that was taking place in the city and I have always greatly respected that he put his mortagage, sweat, and money where his mouth was...in OTR. Truth be told, if it weren't for the many conversations I had with Tony about urban living, development and all things Cincinnati - where his passion and enthusiam were so infectious - I may never have felt the way I do about this city and just considered myself an outsider passing through. However I was fortunate enough to have had those conversations and as a result, I found myself becoming a much more passionate supporter and resident of Cincinnati. I am not a religious person, but I offer my thoughts and prayers for Tony and his family in this difficult time and I hope that whatever god exists has has a special Italianate rowhouse set aside for Tony in the sky.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentI don't think it's quite the same, but it's still good. The beer prices have decreased. :) I haven't been in there in a while, but I would agree it was not the same. The old owner took a chainsaw to the old wooden bar (now gone) so it lacks some of the charm, but the new manager is from Dublin and they had an Irish bartender the last time I was there so I guess there are tradeoffs. It's more fun to be served Guinness by someone with an Irish brogue and witty pub sayings. Their food seems to have fallen off though.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
PRidgeFlyer replied to The_Cincinnati_Kid's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentThe Dubliner is now called Molly Malone's. After it changed hands they had a sign up that said "THE NEW DUBLINER" and the former owner threatened to sue, so then they removed some letters and it was "THE NEW ........ER". Finally they let patrons buy a chance (for charity) to name it and Molly Malone's was the winner.

Chicago sends Rover back to Cleveland
Hopefully Cincy will follow suit and take that show off the air here. I don't know what the other options are, but that show is definately not worthy of syndication. Hearing theirb heavily midwestern accented voices droning on about nothing in the morning grates on my nerves like rubbing your knuckles on a cheese grater. I've gone from Howard Stern to NPR on the morning drive.

I would have no problem with the Millworks development it if did affect NOTL. NKY community leaders don't seem to worry about the affects of what happens when they steal business and attractions from the city of Cincinnati. :whip:

Cincinnati and the smoking ban
That's exactly what I'm getting at. It is a total throw away stat because it is asked in a manner that will get a positive response for their cause. Then they present it in the paper as if 3/4's of the residents of Ohio would actually get off their ass, hire a baby sitter, jump in the car, and go out to dinner more often if no one could smoke at all in public establishments. I think the more accurate statistic would maybe be that 74% of Ohioans would enjoy their dining experience more if smoking were not permitted.

Cincinnati and the smoking ban
I do not like people smoking in close proximity to me when I am eating at a restaurant, but is this stat trying to say that 74% of Ohioans are currently dining out less because of smoking in restaurants? Where in the hell are do these people go to dinner?? Diners, taverns, and Waffle Houses?? I didn't even think you could smoke outside of the bar area of almost any decent restaurant. Other than bars, holes in the wall, and places with outdoor seating, can you even smoke at a table anywhere? I know people that won't go to certain bars because they are too smokey, but it's not like they stay home because of it; there are always other places that are not. I'm thinking we won't be seeing that 74% upturn in the restaurant biz if Ohio establishments go smoke free.
