  1. I have heard of Scarlet Johanson but I thought her name was Charlotte Johanson. My fiance corrected me the other day.
  2. I think his point is that it will bring more people than a vacant building did. I'm not sure how many people went out of their way to pass by that building after that college left, it was a dead corner. Not everybody will use the walkway, especially in nice weather, some will, but not all. I for one will probably never drive there, I have the rapid, 26 and 55 on weekdays as an option so I'll probably never step foot in their welcome center. But for those car loving suburbanites that do drive, I'm sure many will make use of a warm June day and walk across the street instead of opting for the walkway. What the casino needs to do to assure that people don't mindlessly use the walkway is to make the entrance on the ground level, not give them an entrance to the casino from the second level. This will mean that people have to walk down to the first level regardless at some point. People may still enter using the walkway but when they leave it would probably be easier for them just to go out onto the street and walk across. And yeah, the retail will probably be a souvenir shop and the restaurant will be something casino related, but it's a start.
  3. Aww, but a parking garage with a restaurant and souvenir shop at street level.
  4. I guess I stand corrected about the requirement of new construction, but that doesn't make me any less sure that he'll build the new casino. And by new I mean new construction.
  5. With the blatant disregard for what the constitution says it may be easy to be cynical when it comes to things like the new construction being built but it would be a serious thing if Gilbert and Ceasers decided not to do what we voted on them doing. It specifically says that these casinos have to be NEW construction. From what I've always understood, the complexity of building in that spot would have led to a substantial delay and instead of waiting they got approval to build a phase one of the project to start making their money sooner than later. And people keep calling these two different casinos. That's not true, won't they be connected underground? And smack dab in the middle of the two, where people will have to cross in order to get from one to the other will be tower city. This is a good thing, a lot better than Columbus where the religious right(aka nearly everyone in Columbus) forced the casino into the middle of nowhere. I'd rather have a first phase with a delayed but well planned second phase, then to move the project entirely out to Westlake or Strongsville.
  6. So you're implying that no new construction will be built? That's the most absurd thing I've ever heard.

Phil Taylor will be a bust, he's got his money, no need to get into shape now.

And he can't block worth $h!t. I miss Vickers already.
  9. Is the guy in the Captain America suit anyone? I saw him today when we passed by while walking downtown. I saw him running on top of some cars and them moving some flipped cars with a fork lift. I thought my son may be interested but a garbage truck drove by and that was it for the movie filming.
  10. Yeah, I know, a post that I acknowledge that I misread his comment was deleted.
  11. Someone brought that up earlier in the thread. But it was also said that the crane will probably be a good 30 to 50 feet taller than the actual building height. With that said the final height will probably be in the 330 to 350 range.
  12. As into gambling as I am, I'm more excited about how this will force the real estate company that owns the parking lot on Superior and W 6th to finally build on it. I'm sick of looking at that lot already.
  13. valid and seconded! ;) I really like to think of what this can do to freshen up tower cities offerings, and the possibility of retail in the downtown area. really that, to me, is the biggest pro out of this entire thing. though maybe the constant/late night activity base can vie for that, but I think mostly its the retail. I totally believe that putting the casino in the Higbee Building will revive Tower City, no question about it. It's the only casino on the public square of a major American city and the ony casino that I know of that is attached to a shopping mall. If their visitor projections are even half right, that'll bring in a steady stream of activity to that complex. Retailers love guaranteed traffic and, if the casino projections are accurate, that's definitely guaranteed traffic. I think that's probably the part of the story that most people don't mention. If the Higbee Casino works, then it will most certainly revive Tower City. You've never been to Vegas, have you?
  14. ^ parking floors aren't a cheat? but speaking of cheats, someone correct me but i am pretty sure antennas, needles, spires, rooftop mechanicals, etc. count in the total height. some people consider highest occupied floor -- apples n oranges to me both have their height merits. * sooo excellent to be having these discussions for cle now instead of just about other cities innit?!!! * Personally I don't care how tall it is or how tall they officially say it is. All I was saying is that when a building uses a needle to add a little extra height it seems like nothing more than just a way to stretch it out a little. Like standing on your tippy toes when being measured. As for parking garage floors, I wouldn't say that would be cheating because it adds height to the building. But it's not something I'm really interested in arguing about.

He reminds me of a Dennis Northcut that can actually catch.
  16. Yeah, I guess I was mistaking the antennas for a needle.

I hope that was a sign of things to come, BUT, lets not forget a year ago against the very same team how great Jake Delhomme looked. I remember thinking how great of a pick up he was and that he was going to have a very good year. We all know how that turned out. I think Hillis is going to struggle without having Vickers in front of him much like he struggled yesterday. Cribbs is looking like he can be the 3rd WR option, or possibly the second depending on how Little progresses. But last night Little looked solid. As I figured our 1st string defense looked very good, the rest of them pretty much sucked except for a few individual plays. That's to be expected on a team with zero depth at all the positions. Tackling looked crisp, but we're still lacking that difference maker. D'Quell Jackson is still looking like he's going to rack up 100 tackles with everyone of them being 5-10 yards down the field. You hardly heard Hadens name, when you're a CB that's a great thing. Nice confidence builder even though it's preseason. I hope this team proves me wrong this season but I still have to stick with a prediction of 4-5 wins.
  18. I'd guess somewhere in the 250 to 270 feet range. And that would be including any needle on top that cheats the total height. I'd be willing to guess that the crane is 300 feet or slightly higher, so we won't have the same views of the building that we have of the crane.
  19. Great picture, I had no idea I could save 15% in 15 minutes.
  20. It's actually 3.5% for an FHA loan and it can be a gift from a family member, but their money has to be documented. Unless you fit some sort OHFA program or a community based down payment assistance program, for example there's the hero's program where certain people in the medical field may qualify for 3% down payment assistance.
  21. Not a huge baseball or Indians fan but Detroit only won because of the error in the first inning. That game would have gone into extra innings if it weren't for that and who knows what would have happened at that point.

And they'll have a lot to report on in a year when they actually play basketball again.

I totally agree about giving McCoy a shot. He deserves it. And I'm rooting for him all the way, I'm a Browns fan and want Browns players to do well. I just have little faith in this organization to make the right draft pick if we do suck it up this year. We'll have the 1st overall pick and trade down to take the top ranked punter at the end of the 1st round. But we'll get five 4th round picks for it, so we'll be all good. :-(
