  3. Great to see the new construction. I know it's common to post pics of downtown projects, but construction in the neighborhoods interests me at least as much. I *THINK* it's a senior community. I'm also excited that a lot of the lights are coming down, especially at Euclid and Lakeview-- NOW.... if we can pave Lakeview so I can have an easy time driving home to CircleEast! Haha since the > 50% of the community does not own a car I am not happy about reducing the number of safe intersections those people have to cross at, and as a result increasing the speed of traffic.
  4. the real change will happen when library on the south side of the street is redone to front Chester and connect the "quad" to the north campus. then I could see more retail in that building to make up for the lack a retail in 21st-22nd block. that will be a real game changer on Chester.

  6. bingo! salt destroys concrete, freeze thaw is hard on concrete too. up north we don't use concrete as much for this very reason.
  7. the needed steps to provide a foundation for developments, are out of the hands of the city and county and lie within the massive ODOT complex in Columbus. The reconfiguration of the route 2 though downtown, and the making connections from the bluff to the lake are the basics needed to make the area more attractive for development. I personally believe the main avenue viaduct from west 6th to east 9th must be removed and made into a boulevard, to facilitate the reconnection of the lake to downtown. IMHO.
  8. Yes. I'm lucky I'm old enough to have seen Union Terminal in its original state. I was 10 when they began converting it to TC. I am trying to remember where things used to be for a project I am doing.
  9. the thing about parking especially a garage is that even if there is little demand for it naturally, it increases the overall supply of parking, lower parking prices for everyone, inducing more people to drive. Transit cannot compete with free or near free parking.
  10. have you guy heard of this site before? it has a treasure trove of old union terminal pictures. Id love to see large version of those pics for free of course. http://www.historicmapworks.com/Buildings/index.php?state=OH&city=Cleveland&id=27467
  11. awesome work going on there, thanks for posting.
  12. UCI cannot say they are concerned about future congestion if they continue to add more and more Free or guaranteed parking. I don't think, is unreasonalbe to expect the ration of parking per resident to drop for new developments in the area.
  13. why so much parking? this is my only complaint

  17. I was impressed that they used permeable pavers for the parking lot. way to get on the good side of the sewer district.
  18. then I don't know what they are talking about.
  19. cincy recieved a Urban circulator grant of 25 million, tucson recieved a Tiger grant. that may be the difference.

  21. the concept of an Urban Circulator, using Rail is far more efficient to operate. and is far more effective at spurring development around those line than any Bus trolley. buses can move but streetcars are a permanent part of the urban landscape. the FTA is offering a 25 million dollar grant for urban circulators like the Atlanta's and Cincinnati's streetcar.
  22. those graphics i promised
  23. A streetcar they desired
  24. no more parking. http://www.urbancincy.com/2012/03/parking-mandates-stymy-development-in-cincinnatis-urban-neighborhoods/ we have more than enough already. do you have any idea how much parking surrounds public square. I'd guess over 1500 spaces within a 2 min walk of the square. NO MORE PARKING.
  25. Although that would likely make the building ineligible for historic tax credits, which are a major source of capital for a project like May, and many times the only way to get projects like this done. are you sure about that? not saying you are wrong but to me preserving the facades and historic elements should be the priorty not the non hsitroical layout of the building.
