Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
^ I absolutely love the Philadelphia Christmas market by the Love Statue. A Christmas market on Public Square would absolutely enliven the Square in the winter months (I know my coworkers would frequent it). Could be a great winter extension of the Cleveland Flea!

That was the most civil-yet-heated back-and-forth I have seen on this forum. Touche folks! Can you guys lead a seminar for the Republican party?

Cleveland: Warehouse District: Development and News
^ Having lived in Miami for half a decade, I'm not sure what's meant by that. Cleveland has a much larger transit footprint and more our transit goes through/to the heart of our CBD. This is neither in the heart of Miami's CBD nor in an area of much density... A TOD bus hub/retail/residential seems a lot more plausible in downtown Cleveland. Let's hope they can figure out a way to still weave a "west side transit center" somewhere into the warehouse district area (especially if it helps free up our Public Square of asshole bus drivers that try to run me over during red lights)!

Cleveland: Midtown: Development and News
^Wow. That's really interesting to see. I had a meeting at one of those buildings a few months ago and we ended up getting held up at gunpoint in the parking lot. When the police asked the owners for the surveillance tape, the owners replied that the cameras didn't work. I wonder if that fiasco led the owners to reconsider the property?

Cleveland: Detroit-Shoreway / Gordon Square Arts District: Development News
^ Councilman Zone mentioned at the Euclid Hill Block Club meeting the terra cotta will be incorporated into the new "Waverly Lake" school. He also mentioned there's an open house at Max Haye's at 10:30am on August 31 if anyone knows folks who want to redevelop the area!

It would make a cool single-theater IMAX or something. Can't really think of a nonprofit with the money or need for a space like this. Maybe CIFF can buy it :).

Beachwood: Development and News
^That being said, the Cleveland Jewish News' readership has one of the highest median incomes of any newspaper in the U.S. (according to a friend who works for one of the above-listed entities). So let's hope they begin talking about Urban Ohio, rather than Suburban Ohio... I know their Millennial targeted digests are mostly urban in scope, at this point!

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
Downtown is a neighborhood composed of multiple districts including the Gateway District, Theater District, and Warehouse District. The Ohio City neighborhood is around 130 (pure guesstimation) blocks--which can easily be broken into more specific districts, such as the Market District, SoLo, and Hingetown. The popularization and marketing of these smaller districts doesn't annihilate the Ohio City Neighborhood, nor do they compete with one another, it simply provides even more ability for folks to interact and identify with their neighbors. IMHO

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Fixed that for ya Musky, I think I mentioned that quite a few pages back in this thread. When I was at CSU, I met with Ed re: an event for Levin College. He mentioned leaving in the near future because he was being pushed out after pushing back and asking for a mixed-use building in that spot. Truly a terrible loss for the University and I wish the many important Levin grads around town would put up more of a stink about it. Too late now with this building, let's hope they can get the campus back on track with the next one.

Anyone know what ever happened to Kilwin's? I remember it being in an earlier photo of future tenants.

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
^That same coworker called me today (I'm out of town) just to tell me the signs are up and it's confirmed. Big news for us coffee hungry Terminal Tower residents :-D

Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / Riverview Development
^I pass buy a Passov sign every morning on my way to work in the wonderfully renamed Sphere (please read sarcastically). I had no idea how much they had on the market here. To bring this convo back to TC, a coworker heard from a little birdie that a Starbucks will be moving into the former Peet's location sometime around July. Not sure of the level of credibility here, though. If it's true, I think it has to be a good sign for the Public Square lot. That can't go undeveloped too much longer if only 3/4 corners of PS have a Starbucks; someone would have to build something there to complete the Starbucks monopoly! :-D

Cleveland: Downtown: Playhouse Square Development and News
I live in the PHS area and could definitely see a movie theater of the type mentioned by KJP fitting nicely here. People would still use Tower City Cinemas (even more so if they could do something about the seating so you don't break your neck every time you see a movie) for normal movie-going experiences. Conversely, I just attended a film at the Hanna Theatre during CIFF, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience (from my silly Millennial perspective). I think a beautifully done theater with an IMAX screen and/or a restaurant theater could perfectly complement the theatres next door and cater to more of a date-night crowd than the Cinemas. That being said, even though I don't like art deco, it would be a travesty to not incorporate it into any development!

My ex lived in one of these when we were in grad school. They were incredibly tiny, but still "luxurious" by college dorm standards--having their own kitchen and bathroom is quite the dorm room luxury. And it looks from their site that the units (and building interior) will be seeing much needed TLC.

Cleveland: Public Square Redesign
Currently photos are just a single photo taken from my iPhone once a day. I'm looking into time-lapse... but it looks pretty expensive (especially a weatherproof one). If I can make that happen, hopefully we can seamlessly transition upon completion of Public Square to a time-lapse of nuCLEus construction :). To be continued...

I've been taking a picture daily from the 36th floor of Terminal Tower. I'll eventually upload them. My computer is a POS so it's quite the daunting task :)

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Oh! I kept thinking "looks like the Comerica Building" in Dallas. But Guardians makes more sense! I think it would be great if we had the Ferrari Building and then have Gilbert add a mixed-used tower on the Phase II land reminiscent of the "2000" plan. Let's hope nuCLEus works and sets the stage for more! Here's to making Cleveland not the "unhappiest place to work!"

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
^I hate to say it, but while the OC buses are easy to use for us transit-oriented folk, my "non-transity" friends are too confused to even attempt using them. As biker said, they don't know which buses go to OC, when they leave, or where to pick them up. While you or me would say..."go to riderta.com and look it up," that is too much work for them. They would rather go back to their apartment, pick up their car, and drive across the river. It's possibly idiocy, but many don't like the idea of buses, and when they see the 55, they don't know what separates it from the 15, 32, or 7. To them, they're all the same. A trolley or similar mechanism of differentiating this route from "generic" buses would help set the downtown/OC connection apart to the younger and older crowds moving downtown, as well as the tourist and leisure-suburbanite. It may be dumb, but I think it's true. Also, McNulty, the Conways, and the other folk on that street should be racing to install a trolley--increase pedestrian traffic (from the aforementioned transit-allegic folk), decrease vehicular traffic, decrease possibility of DUIs, and increase bar-hopping from convention-goers and other downtown tourists. Call it the Brew Line :-)

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
I was talking to my bro about this issue and really think it can be handled without a single new parking spot. As folks have mentioned here, impose a 2 hour limit. Additionally, make it a pay lot and allow West Side Market to have their tickets validated by grocers when they make a purchase. That way, Market shoppers get free parking and the bar/RTA parking folk pay. Use some of the parking funds and the aid of area businesses to create a trolley between Tremont, OC, and GSAD and/or OC and Downtown. That removes the cars of West Sider's that drive a mile or so from their places on the near-West side, improves connections between the City, and decreases parking needs in the Market District. It also allows an East Sider the ability to park in Tremont or GSAD, and take the trolley from their car to a bar in OC, further reducing the need for parking in that one little area. This city has too much parking, there should never be a "parking problem." Anywhere (except maybe Downtown in 2016 :)).

^Even the streetlights are bland in comparison to back then. Fun story, though (if not for certain individuals involved)!
