Cleveland / Lakewood: The Edge Developments
If it HAS to be a grocer, I think a Trader Joe's would do nicely there!

Yes, it's Kilwin's! About time, been waiting for one since I moved back from Florida; only good thing to ever come out of Michigan! https://www.kilwins.com/

Cleveland: Downtown: nuCLEus
Most are much smaller. The totality of Reserve Square's (450'x350') footprint is a little bit larger than nu-CLE-us' (430'x275') and it has fewer apartments (460) in two 23-story towers connected by a five-level parking deck than what nu-CLE-us would have. KJP, is that the totality of NuCLEus' footprint or just the half the massing sits on? Sounds like it could be 40+ stories if he wants all the residential in a single building, especially if he's having apartments larger than the meager ones at Reserve.

Shaker Heights: Van Aken District Transit Oriented Development
^^ I heard the same about the transit station not being moved across the street last week during a meeting with some urban planners in the area. Good news is they are looking at other ways to "bridge the gap" a bit... can't say any more than that (don't know any more than that!)

My brother's friend moved in this weekend, too. He said Lebron bought the entire top floor and Manziel bought entire floor below Bronbron. Not sure how accurate this tidbit is, though.

Anyone know how that Vestor is coming along? I wish it were like Kickstarter so we could see investment progress.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
^The whole side is not a fire escape. It's not even fully just stairs. Steve Litt can only type his notes so fast, and has only so much room in his article, so I suppose he just didn't mention fully what was said in response to Hunter's comment (he's one of the only good PD reporters so I'm defending him!). Anyway, that side of the hotel will contain the BOH portion of the hotel so that the rest can be as open as humanly possible (and fit the ballrooms!). They said their biggest problem in including all our wishes is that they could not put the tower over the ballrooms. The tower needed structural integrity that could not be afforded to it with ballrooms below it, so they needed to work with the space (and money) they had. He said the tower and ballrooms are literally mm away from each other, and not much can be done to change placement, and the BOH had to be along Hamilton so that Ontario/St. Clair/Mall could be open to everyone. That all being said, he was very very very very open (and excited) to making aesthetic changes to that wall, so don't expect that blank wall come January.

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
^The idea for the new Great Lakes Expo is to make actual buildings, not tear-down buildings like they did 100 years ago. That being said, maybe we can pitch the idea of holding off on a bridge until we can use the Expo as an excuse to pump a bit more cash into an actual great design.

Cleveland: Downtown: Hilton Cleveland
Facts from tonight's meeting: -It will be 374 feet. -I asked about residential, the spokesman from Cooper said they weren't asked by Hilton to look into it, and Hilton doesn't operate residential so it was never on their radar. If they had been asked, they would've, though he mentioned it hasn't been as common on large hotels since 2008, and Cleveland may not be the market for it. :/ -Lots of people still said rooftop bar, to which they said... (in much nicer and more eloquent phrases): Not happening, we have no money for something like that. -Lots of people said the mall-side needed to be more in tune with the Group Plan, although they gave a great explanation as to what that whole "Living room of the City" thing is, and I have to admit, the amount of light and openness caused by that open glass space looks like it'll make a beautiful interior on the northern portion of the mall (which is all public areas). -They will be raising the "no man's land in between the hotel and convention center to make it more walkable and less dreary. -Parking situation is being decided tomorrow, although whether the lower level parking would be included or not was not said... just that as of tomorrow they will have decided. -They will take everyone's comments and come back with a final design meeting in January. Also, they said they're hoping to use the bridges and other industrial architectural motifs in Cleveland as inspiration for the interiors, but want to do it in a way that also feels modern and works with the exterior. -Lastly, because we all care so much, they will be using a material found in other Group Plan buildings for the base (lower 90 feet), something along the lines of sandstone, marble, granite... not concrete. -Lots of other stuff that is escaping me, it was a very informative meeting, with a ton of new pictures that Steve Litt will probably post before I have a chance to upload them from my terrible broken iPhone 4... but if he doesn't tomorrow, I'll upload some tomorrow night (I also saw him taking very thorough notes, so his article will be a lot more enlightening than mine!) In terms of timeline, the County building is already vacant and furniture has been sold. Demolition will start in December I believe they said, excavation could start by February.

I can understand them placing the tower on the mall-side, IMHO, it would work if the base on the mall-side reflected the mall-architecture more. I feel they could do that in a way that both complements the other buildings and the tower, while still allowing the tower to front the mall.

^that title is incredibly misleading. Sure it'll cost money, but it's also getting the Ameritrust off our back, and hopefully adding a huge amount to economic development in a much needed area.

^^ Don't judge... the Urban Ohioan came out in me and I felt it my duty as a Coventrian resident. And their Peanut Butter Milkshakes are delicious!

^agreed. What's the point of a majestic lobby for a public place if it'll again be barely discernible. I'm also afraid of the amount of property Optima owns in this city, do we want to put all our eggs in one basket including the entire intersection of main and main?

Cleveland: General Business & Economic News
I had no idea where else to ask this so I'm settling here, please move if it fits better somewhere else. I just went to Philadelphia for a week and while I was there toured the US Mint. Not sure who has been there, but it's basically a self guided tour where placards tell you history as well as current facts about the minting process while you can see out windows into the actual mint. Would it be possible fro ArcelorMittal or a factory to do something like this? I think it would be absolutely fascinating to watch steel being created. I know it's a hugely different process since the Mint doesn't really get to the high temperatures are anything used at a steel factory, and doesn't have to worry with OSHA and other government standards as much but it still seems like ana amazing idea to me if it were possible. Anyone want to tell me the first 25 reasons they know it won't work?

Not sure if there is a better thread for this: CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Frustrated with the lack of repairs to the Stanley Block building, the city of Cleveland decided this week to raze the historic downtown structure -- at a cost of $400,000. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2012/12/stanley_block_building_in_down.html#incart_river_default So much is happening in this article I'm not even sure where to start.

I am probably being daft but that article says the transformation will make Reserve Square one of the largest apartment buildings in downtown Cleveland. What is bigger? I thought Reserve was the biggest even before conversion.

Cleveland: Hotels, Conventions, and Tourism News & Info
Hey guys, my brother (CLEbetarian) and I did some work on all this about a year ago (should all be in the hotel development thread if I recall. Some quick stats: (Note: this is as of the summer, with Embassy gone and a few other developments, the rooms have changed slightly, but it's a fairly good key in its completeness. Also lists room numbers for Aloft, Westin, Marriott, and other hotels being built.) -Rooms within 1/2 mile of CCMM: 2,025 -Rooms within 1 mile of CcMM: 4,073 -Rooms within 2 miles of CCMM: 4,234 -Rooms in Cleveland: 6,407 -Rooms in Cuyahoga: 15,548 -Rooms in Greater Cleveland w/o Summit: 20,521 -Rooms in Greater Cleveland: 25,403
