  1. There's a banner that says something like "Great Views" and a phone number. The demolition looks like what they would be doing if they were beginning the conversion. I couldn't find anything in the MLS. Some possible theories (all pure speculation on my part): a) They are proceeding with their original plan (unlikely) b) They're going to renovate the building, but not add any floors in an attempt to recoup their investment. Possibly a combination of residential and office space, or all office space.
  2. So who were the big winners anyway? We had 3 donate the highest and same amount. You were one of them. Obviously, I wouldn't be eligible. So whenever you end this let me know and I need to know if those two donors are male or female. So who were the big winners?
  3. Is that what used to be "R.S.V.P." in the 80's?
  4. It reminds me of the debate over redeveloping Fountain Square a few years ago.
  5. It's between Main and Walnut. I think it was a Frisch's years ago. More recently, it was the site of the lunch for the first Urban Ohio walking tour of Cincinnati Yep, Rise and Shine. Nope. That's on 7th. I'm talking the place that used to have breakfast, burgers, and Thai dishes. http://www.coldturkeycincy.com/

I was planning to do the Air Force half marathon, but a business trip got in the way. I'm going to to the Spirit of Columbus half on 8/30 instead. It will be my first.
  9. Actually, there are several building on the hillside in its original path. Some added in the last few years.
  10. Since I'm typically downtown to begin with, I tend to give names to areas when I refer to them. The Square, the Gateway Quarter (referring to the shops around 12th and Vine), North Main, etc. Regardless of the name, I think I would always refer to the Banks as "the Banks". Heck, I sometimes refer to Macy's as Shilito's even though that name was gone before the building was there. I still refer to the garage next to Tower Place as the Pogues garage.
  11. I think that is too favorable a comparison for Mr Haap. At least Nader managed to contribute something useful in his earlier years.
  12. Hilton did a nice job when they took it over, expanding the size of many of the rooms, and doing an overall refurb of the property. It was starting to look rather tired and thread-bare 20 years after the previous refurb (sometime in the early 80s).
  13. Well that's the most obnoxious thing I'm likely to hear today... Sounds like the "illuminati" or something equally stupid
  14. Wedding donations to go toward streetcar CINCINNATI, March 10 (UPI) -- A soon-to-be-married Cincinnati couple want any and all wedding donations to go toward building the city's proposed streetcar system. More info at: http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2009/03/10/Wedding_donations_to_go_toward_streetcar/UPI-78921236709799/
  15. Did you try one of the flavors with chocolate chips? If not, that might explain it.
  16. I use the segments that lead in and out of Carew Tower. When it's really cold, I use the route between the 580 and Chemed buildings on my way home from the backstage drinking entertainment district.
  17. I think a "Supporting Member" tag on the status for supporting members would be nice. It's surprising the effect that has on members that should contribute but don't. Don't do amount levels, just tag the ones that do (even if it's just a dollar). 200 members kicking in just a buck is $200 dollars better than them not. Just my 2 cents.
  18. 13? That's pathetic. Make that 14. Don't you folks remember jonesing when Urban Ohio went off-line in December 2007? It looked like it was going to be the worst Christmas ever! It isn't how much you give as much as making the effort. If only 25% of regular reading and posting members gave a little, it would make a huge difference. There's no reason for the folks that spend all the time maintaining the site, upgrading it, and backing it up to be footing the bill. Let's kick in.

I never had them; we were too poor . However, I did meet Miss Barbara in person once at Toyland in Painesville. (And come to think of it, I never recall her mentioning my name either!) My mom made us some out of a couple of 1 pound coffee cans and some string by punching a couple of holes in the cans with a nail and loopig the string through. Good ole mom.
  20. fye, which used to be Camelot, is still there. Isn't the athletic shoe store (foot locker or whatever) an original tennant?
  21. Last Spring on the opening night of Bockfest.
  22. My experience has been that when someone feels the need to say during n argument that they know something because they're a Lawyer, they usually aren't.
  23. I checked your site as well. Great pictures. Way better than the lame ones in cincinnati.com
  24. In a normal situation, if the buyer backs out, they may not even get their deposit back. That's kind of the point of having a deposit. In special cases such as a major delay or cancellation of development, I suspect there's a case to be made for the developer having to pay the interest out along with the deposit. But I'm no expert. I'm sure every contingency spelled out in that tiny little print that's been run through the copier enough times that you can't read it when you sign. :-)
