  1. That triple balcony is just too awesome. Great tour! It's nice to see some of the OWE.
  2. It's nice to see very positive economic news for the Toledo area.
  3. Most of the comments I see are attacking the woman who complained about the buses.

The route I took: Starting at the Casino Garage, I went through the Casino, around Public Square and back to the front of the Terminal Tower. The pictures were all taken on Saturday (9/7). The Sherwin-Williams Sign at the corner of Huron and Ontario Republic Building; Part of the Landmark Office Towers complex, which was completed in 1931. 'Gambling Problem?' sign going up, 200 Public Square looms in the background. Horseshoe Casino with Terminal Tower Moses Cleaveland is naturally a Browns fan. Public Square Waterfall 75 Public Square, completed in 1915 Old Stone Church, the oldest building on Public Square, was finished in 1855. It survived fires in 1857 and 1884. Yes, the two pictures don't line up even remotely well.. Society for Savings Building, completed in 1890 Key Tower, completed in 1991. Howard M. Metzenbaum U.S. Courthouse, completed in 1910. It was the first building to be built under Cleveland's 1903 Group Plan. The west side faces Public Square and the north side faces the Mall. 200 Public Square, finished in 1985 Former headquarters of the now defunct May Department Stores Company, built in 1914. looking back at the Old Stone Church and 75 Public Square Looking up at the Terminal Tower The rest of the pictures are of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument, which was dedicated to Civil War Veterans in 1894 'The Color Guard', north side 'At Short Range', east side 'Mortar Practice', south side 'The Advance Guard', west side Gettysburg Address, inside We'll end with 'The Color Guard' statue with the Terminal Tower in the background

Wow. It almost looks like a bunch of futuristic buildings were photoshopped into the '87 picture.

Here's a few from pre-war Toledo: Downtown in what I think was the 1920s Looking down Madison Avenue in 1940 Downtown in the 30s or 40s The corner of Jefferson and Superior in 1937. Today, the Huntington Center would be in the lower right corner and Fifth Third Field would be in the upper left. And one from 1968: The Fiberglas Tower under construction Courtesy of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, obtained from http://images2.toledolibrary.org/.

Today, I went downtown and walked around for about an hour. I also took some pictures. ^The route I took.^ Gardner Building, built in 1893 PNC Bank Building, originally Ohio Bank Building, built in 1932 It was once home to Owens-Illinois. Toledo Edison Building, built in 1971 Roulet Company (the small building), the building was built in 1934, Roulet bought it in 1995. It is a jewelry store. Riverfront Apartments, originally Second National Bank Building, then Toledo Trust Building HCR ManorCare Trinity Episcopal Church, built in 1863 Valentine Theatre, built in 1892, major renovations completed in 1999 'Tragic Mask' by by Anne and Patrick Poirier, 1999 Michael DiSalle Government Center, built in 1982 LaSalle Apartments, built in 1917 One SeaGate, built in 1982, once home to Owens-Illinois, now the NW Ohio headquarters of Fifth Third (hence the logo) 615-623 Adams Street near N. Erie Street These three buildings were built in 1899 (left), 1905 (center), and 1886 (right). The taller building down the street was built in 1976. Ten Commandments Plaque and Catholic Veterans Memorial Lucas County Courthouse, finished in 1897 William McKinley Statue The Main Library (the older part, built in 1940) Hylant Building, originally built for Libbey-Owens-Ford in 1960 Toledo Building, built in 1924 Looking down Madison Avenue The once proud Pythian Castle, built in 1890, vacant since 1978. Huntington Center, built in 2009, home of the ECHL Walleye Commodore Perry Apartments, built in 1927 Secor Building, built in 1908 PNC Bank Building reflection on the SeaGate Centre SeaGate Centre, built in 1987 Fiberglas Tower, now officially called Tower on the Maumee or Riverview, I'm not sure. :wtf: It was home to Owens Corning from 1969 to 1996. Vacant for 17 years, currently being renovated for what seems like most of that.. Ohio Building, built in 1896 Art Tatum Memorial Column, erected in 2009 in memory of the greatest jazz pianist to ever live. In the background is the Gardner Building, which you may recognize from the top of the page. Obviously this is not a complete tour and I skipped many things. That just gives me another reason to do it again. Next, I think I'm going to do a tour of Promenade Park and the rest of the downtown waterfront. Comments and Questions are greatly appreciated. 8-)
  11. I always hope for more Toledo pictures on UO, and since they are quite rare, I figured I'd just take some myself. Today after class I went around and took some pictures of UT's main campus. This is my first time posting so many (actually any) pictures, so hopefully they aren't too bad. Gateway, Dorr and Secor Sculpture: 'The Noble Horse' by Peter Busby International House Glass Bowl, Parks Hall, and Koester Alumni Pavilion Parks Hall The stunningly ugly exterior of the press box Koester Alumni Pavilion The rocket aimed at Bowling Green Savage Arena Memorial Field House (once home to basketball games, now home to classrooms) the Field House from the east Carlson Library Student Union Older portion of the Student Union (completed in 1959) Some construction on the west side of University Hall Gargoyle close-up Snyder Memorial, The Glass Bowl (center), and University Hall Brooks Observatory
  12. I don't have much experience walking around at night in the Old West End or Warehouse District (I've always felt safe in both), but you can certainly feel safe walking your dog at anytime in Old Orchard.

Columbus is doing bad compared to other pro hockey teams in Ohio, relatively speaking of course: Team: Average Att. (League Avg); amount +/- league avg. (Percentage of league avg.); Rank Columbus: 14,641 (NHL Avg: 17,756); 3,115 below league avg. (82% of league avg.); 28th/30 http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance Lake Erie: 7,456 (AHL Avg: 5,593); 1,863 above league avg. (133% of league avg.); 3rd/30 http://theahl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=attendance Toledo: 6,003 (ECHL Avg: 4,591); 1,412 above league avg. (131% of league avg.); 4th/23 http://echl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=attendance Cincinnati: 4,174 (ECHL Avg: 4,591); 417 below league avg. (91% of league avg.); 15th/23 http://echl.com/stats/schedule.php?view=attendance Dayton: 1,159 (FHL Avg: 1,063); 93 above league avg. (109% of league avg.); 2nd/6 http://fhl_league.stats.pointstreak.com/attendance.html?leagueid=1018&seasonid=9465 The Jackets have only had 6 home games, so that isn't saying much. All the minor league Ohio teams would make playoffs as of now, that's pretty awesome (Columbus is 4 points from a spot). Although Dayton is in only it's first season in a 6 team league and they all make the playoffs..

Just a small correction: The Fiberglas Tower was formerly the home of Owens Corning (from 70 until it moved to its current HQ at the end of Monroe St. in 96), not Owens-Illinois. Although OI was once in the current PNC building.
