  1. On Coast's website they are touting a graph about the schedule of the streetcar. One of their complaints is that it was 'behind schedule'....Hmmm...I wonder why.... Naturally they are complaining about the costs 'rising' from presumably the delays that they themselves caused EDIT: Sorry for the font size. I was experimenting with shrinking that fringe groups name and it ended in disaster
  2. Who wants to be the first streetcar commissar??? :-P I wonder if COAST has found out about our evil plot to insert streetcars into downtown Cincinnati in an effort end capitalism in the western world. I think Mark Miller found out about our Manchurian Candidate computer chips inserted into all of us by the Chinese.
  3. Or one of the hundreds of 'Why don't we paint a bus to look like a trolley' ones EDIT: Accidentally created a new post
  4. All my letters were denied(3 in all)... Instead, they printed this letter one week: Streetcar is a Communist Idea http://cincinnati.com/blogs/letters/2011/05/09/streetcar-is-a-communist-idea/
  5. COAST has now 2 outlets to for their newsletters that they can go to any time unchecked. Business Courier and 700wlw. Even the Enquirer, who would put anything on their website with 'streetcar' in it for hits, has stopped covering most of COAST's antics. This junk is not going to stop even after construction starts. Whats amazing to me is that there is still a possibility that after 2 referendums, 2 city council elections, and 1 mayor vote, this thing could still be stopped by a tiny fringe group based outside city limits But it really is time to move some dirt. Even if its just a rock moved, start doing something. Construction just has been delayed and delayed and delayed for years now playing right into COAST's gameplan. The more construction waits, the greater the chances of costs going up, opponents coming up with something else (another ballot initiative), and so on.
  6. Well, we now know COAST's gameplan: "Ohio has a taxpayer statute that applies to cities. The statute empowers a taxpayer, in the name of the city, to bring a law suit challenging activities by the city that is illegal or impermissible under applicable law, which could be the Ohio Constitution, State Law, Federal law, or, here, an agreement with the County when the City took over MSD operations and transferred the system's assets to the County, and principles of common law. A prerequisite to the taxpayer attaining standing is that he must first issue a warning letter to the City Solicitor. The City's top lawyer, then, having been notified of the illegal conduct, must "take a pass" on the issue and thereby empower the taxpayer to bring the suit in the name of the City COASTers previously have used this legal tool to stop illegal spending on the Film Commission and to stop Council member Laure Quinlivan from using tax dollars to fund her campaign for Cincinnati City Council." Delay, delay, delay chicken little COASTers. I'm not going to link their website on this site but this is what we can expect from them

I like your sentence use of the word claptrap. You don't see that word very often anymore
  8. Finally! Some actual streetcar news! Do you think we'll be hearing about a ground breaking ceremony anytime soon? I think the city really needs to get this going. Finally. Lets build Mallory's Marxist Communist Socialist Sacreligious Anti-Christ trolly folly crime train choo choo to nowhere streetcar boondoggle that will bankrupt the city, state, midwest, nation, Continent, planet, solar system, and known universe
  9. I disagree. COAST needs to be continuously called out. Just look st their tweets. Masturbation streetcar jokes, continuing to lie about source of funding, cheering on murders on otr, linking children deaths to streetcars, comparing 9/11 to streetcars, etc Edit: sorry octo I misunderstood your comment. The easiest way to get rid of fake anonymous names is to just make everything require logging into facebook I agree with both of you. Octo is right. I doubt the comments posted by Kevin in the article were actual COAST members(Although its much tougher now to differentiate with all the junk they've posted in the last year I wouldn't be surprised if it is)...Regardless, its a product of anonymous comment postings. Its a simple solution to fix
  10. I love reading GoCOAST and CincyCapell's interactions on twitter. Highly recommend. Usually Mark Miller doesn't respond back but I think Capell has started to get into his head.
  11. 'COAST asks for halt to city's plan to build streetcar over sewer lines' Leaders of the Coalition Opposed to Additional Spending and Taxes (COAST) are asking Cincinnati’s city solicitor to seek a halt to a city plan to build a streetcar over existing sewer lines. The letter to City Solicitor John Curp calls the approach “an impermissible interference upon the rights of the county commissioners, for the rights attendant to their ownership of the sewer lines to operate, access, maintain, repair and repair those sewer lines to keep them operational.” It's signed by Chris Finney, an attorney and co-founder of COAST, on behalf of COAST co-founder Thomas Brinkman and treasurer Mark Miller. More below: http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/news/2011/12/29/coast-asks-for-halt-to-citys-plan-to.html
  12. COAST now demanding that the city 'stop the Mayor's Pocket Veto'. http://cincinnati.com/blogs/politics/2011/12/21/finney-to-city-stop-mayors-power/
  13. http://www.urbancincy.com/2011/12/city-selects-final-streetcar-station-design/ COAST Posted December 20, 2011 at 4:10 pm | # Don’t worry Yup’s, you will never see these. Mallory’s Folly Trolley will never be built, we will see to that. This is a promise. 65% of the people do not want the trolley built, and we will make sure their voices are heard. You only won the election because of the misleading ballot language plus all of union thugs turning out to vote to keep their plush benefits. Let’s see if you keep popping those champagne corks when we stop this boondoggle. Mark Miller sounds like a pleasant guy to be around
  14. Is Skoda the most popular/efficient? What does Tacoma/Seattle have? What are the other popular types around? There's some pretty cool options

You think so? I don't know if his policies led directly to creating jobs but he's the man in charge so he will and should get credit. The Avengers to Cleveland? Passing a law that says we can C&C in bars/Malls? JobsOhio? Fracking in National Parks? Delaying the construction of the casinos? I know the National GOP is not happy with him at the moment for his approval rating and for turning off lifelong members of the GOP right before a crucial 2012 election race in a key swing state
  16. Somewhat off the current thread... I think pro-streetcar/rail supporters need to play the "such-and-such city has rail" card more often. Nothing would win support for light rail more than pointing out that Pittsburgh has successful light rail... we don't want to lose to Pittsburgh, do we? In all seriousness, Cincinnati tends to have some sort of second-rate complex where we view modern city improvements as stuff for New York, Chicago, LA.... but we're just little old Cincinnati, we can't compete. This is annoying to me as well. "We're not Portland. It won't work here" "It's not Europe. It won't work here." "It just won't work here" "Pipe dream. Its good for other cities but not us" So annoying. I hear it all the time. I think this area has a very negative image of itself compared to other cities I've been too. You see it everywhere. Anything that fails, people laugh. Anything succeeding, people don't ride the wave and they expect it to fail. You see it in every aspect of this area. From sports to politics to media. Everything has a negative connotation to it. The area seems to like that self fulfilling prophecy. I was at the bengals game against the Bills. As Dalton was driving late, I heard people go "Here comes an interception" or "We're gonna lose". Its incredible. I believe this same mentality applies to the streetcar It always puzzles me how someone can immediately turn good or great news into a worst case scenario. "We are the new Detroit" would be a prime example
  17. I appreciate Eigtgth and State's questions. He seems sincere and he's polite in response. I've learned a lot from his questions and your guys answers to his questions. I don't think he's a troll at all. The questions he poses may or may not be legitimate to the guys who know a ton(most of the people on this site) but to people like me who don't know a whole lot, they seem like interesting questions and the responses solidify my belief. Its refreshing to hear questions relayed in logical quotes without the words 'trolley' 'trolley folley', 'crime train', 'choo choo', 'boondoggle', 'sacreligious', 'Marxist', 'Socialist', 'Communist', 'streetcar to nowhere', 'bum transporation', or all of those words combined. Now the new catch phrase for them is 'Detroit'. It really is amazing how quickly they parrot each others talking points Eihgthg and State helps me realize how bats*it some of these hardcore blowhards are. I think this latest sewer 'controversy' is just another attempt to delay construction and fight the project. There's really not much they can do now and their gameplan is to stall as long as possible (preferably until the next elections) or, as Jake pointed out earlier, have this thing halfway built and stall like the subways. After this sewer stuff goes away, there will be a new problem. After that problem, there will be another. It will always be something. Those in charge of the project cannot get caught up in this junk. I realize there's very little middle ground in the court of public opinion. By now everyone in the area has taken a stand on it one way or another. There will be very little changing of positions. So at this point, its up to officials to get this running as soon as possible so we can finally end these nonsense arguments and start working on it extending to Uptown and creating a more regional system(which most in the area want now) KJP said it awhile back: The enemy of the good is the perfect Lets get this streetcar or as COAST calls it 'Communist socialist Marxist sacreligious trolley folly to nowhere crime train choo choo boondoggle that will turn us into the next Detroit or Little Moscow and crumble the United States of America, our solar system, and possibly the universe' built
  18. We need to get Mark Miller and Tom Luken out there
  19. There's no doubt in my mind that Mark Miller, Tom Luken, Chris Smitherman, Chris Monzel, Darryl Parks, and Doc Thompson stay up at all hours of the night texting/calling each other about how to stop the streetcar. It seems to consume them all the time.
  20. I love how the local tv media goes out of their way to include the word "Controversial" in every story. 'The controversial Cincinnati streetcar project has been controversial to the point that controversy has been created. This controversy is surely controversial. Here's Jack with more controversy on the controversial controversy"
  21. Fox19 facebook page has the worst and most uneducated comments about this project. Good Lord
  22. It also gives the project more cushion if Duke energy decides to start jacking up the price of relocating utilities
  23. Surprise. COAST planning to sue Mallory and some on council "Mayor Mallory & Council violate City Charter & state law by delegating legislative authority to mayor" "New Council rules are designed to suppress voice and legislative rights of minority in Council. Also illegal. Will be enjoined" "City takes Mark Miller's depo today in suit over equal access to City's conf. rooms & lobby. City uses areas politically, discriminatorily"
  24. How do you figure? The last thing this project needs is more delays and negative PR in my opinion
  25. Opponents are desperate and will try any and everything:
