Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
Everyone's been suspecting this about the Wasson line to begin with. Anyone who owns property in Hyde Park or east of that point stands to gain massively from the transit line, yet those people are nowhere to be seen. Bingo. Cranley also successfully killed the Central Parkway bike path plan as it was(on the street). It's also interesting to note that Norwood developers are trying to buy up ROW near X to preserve future light rail while cincinnati is doing nothing. The argument from the Cincy side is "There is enough room for the bike trail to co-exist with a future rail line". 1) There are 2 narrow bridge points that cannot co-exist 2) There are few examples in the history of the US of a rail to trail path converting back to rail. That is why the reversion clause is important If Wasson way is built as is without a reversion clause, and its being fast tracked by Cranley politically so it doesn't have that clause, the odds for future light rail east of I-71 are slim to none
-
Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
Cranley holding a press conference now with bike enthusiasts about bike share and about building 3 trails in next 5 years...At least one over an existing rail line without a reversion to rail clause. In doing this, I believe his plan is to create a wedge between rail & bike supporters as well as kill future chances for rail. Its a way to kill 2 birds with one stone

Cincinnati: Bicycling Developments and News
City council voted unanimously to apply for tiger funds to study Wasson way. John cranley said they can always look at rail Later. This is not true. If Wasson way proceeds as planned, without a reversion clause which it currently doesn't have, there will be no rail east of 71.

Yet another business moving to Cincinnati and citing the proximity to the streetcar line. Anyone keeping tally? Cranley cannot keep denying these facts http://www.urbancincy.com/2014/04/pi-pizzeria-to-open-downtown-in-at580/

John do you think council will vote to apply for the tiger grants for phase 2? Can cranley veto if they don't have 6 votes? Isn't the deadline coming up to apply?

Cincinnati: Christopher Smitherman
230704.myvideotalkstudio.com/streaming/pages It usually starts off so polite and calm. Then he gets rolling. The one before the election he said he was going to pull councils pants down and spank their little Tushs. For some reason the local media just ignores it all. Some other quotes from the latest podcast : 'He(Lincoln ware host of the buzz radio station) is going to be lifting up rob Richardson who's paying money to the buzz for a show on Saturday. They are going to feed African American listeners. The 10 callers and 200 listeners. I don't know if you all know this about the buzz. The buzz radio station is about 27 or 28 in the market in Cincinnati. They are very very low on the food chain on listenership.... They talk a lot of game but realize their reach is a click out of Avondale... You got callers speaking in tongues, Lincoln ware is making a mockery of the Bible' 'some of these ministers have been bought off and paid off. You really have to pick and choose your ministers because some of them are in bed with the enemy' 'I don't make a mockery of the Bible ' ' it is our belief that Rob Richardson is involved in Cincinnatians for progress '

Cincinnati: Christopher Smitherman
Since the last Smitherman thread was lost, we're overdue for a new one. I watched his most recent cable news show on 4/9/14. Here are some of the highlights: 'you have 5 very liberal Democrats, who are operators telling the owner what they're going to do ' ' This fight will cost $1m to 1.5m easy. This fight will end badly for Cincinnati ' 'I don't really follow sports. I try to stay in my lane and my lane is money' 'It doesn't get any worse than this. If we had a recall provision, this would be a reason to recall members of Council ' ' They created this slush fund with no accountability. All roads are leading back to The Richardsons' 'they spent $100000 trying trying to get rid of me & support Chris seelbach & Yvette Simpson. Cincinnatians for progress, this phantom Organization , promoted seelbach, Simpson, Dillingham, & then attacked my campaign' 'the goal was to take control of council to maintain their five votes on council to keep control of that slush fund... What they said is how can we separate Smitherman from his base with the African-American community ' 'Rob Richardson is trying to control $3.5 billion by lying to you and telling you I'm a member of the tea party. Some of you don't critically think and took the bait and walk around like robots. Tell me how little of a critical thinker you are' 'All of this is connected. THE POLITICAL MAFIA IS ALL CONNECTED. It's no different than the mob. No different than any kind of gangster' 'I'm going to try & say this without using any kind of profanity. What the richardsons didn't tell Jonathan white is who he is messing with. Jonathan, if you're watching this, I suggest u cut a deal. I am not going to stop until I find you and hold you accountable. I will search for you through this whole country. I WILL FIND YOU IF YOU GO INTERNATIONAL. I will track you down. I have every single dog on the street, I have your clothing, and I let those dogs smell your clothes and they are coming for you. You're not going to come to Cincinnati from Dayton, Johnathan white, and lie to the citizens of Cincinnati without us finding out exactly who you are. I tell buddy you better get a good lawyer. My resources are unlimited.... He thought I would just drop it. NOPE. Not even a little bit' 'The Democrats in Cincinnati have run Cincinnati like a mob in the last 42 years. Cincinnati has not been controlled by Republicans. You cannot blame potholes on Republicans. You cannot blame mahoganys on Republicans. You cannot blame the streetcar on Republicans. You cannot blame the downgrade on Republicans. You cannot blame the pension on Republicans. You cannot blame the operating deficits on Republicans. U all act like sheep, March into the ballot place saying I'm not going to vote for any Republican. Then you drive into a pothole... The people responsible for all of that are the Democrats. I'm an independent. I'm just trying to tell you the damn truth' 'We cannot afford a Choo Choo train ' ' just like Nurse Rivers did in the Tuskegee syphilis study. Bad blood is the book. That you don't have syphilis u have bad blood. ' ' He(Richardson) is sitting by the door as a gatekeeper for the power structure & to keep you out... He's padding his own pocket to try and position 265 and then justify his salary as a lawyer/lobbyist' 'the Democrats on council, this is cold blooded, know that the ordinance is bad but they are pandering to their constituents who give them money ' ' uc has 1 of their board members undermining the whole institution of the University of Cincinnati. .. If you're a uc student or parent, remember all those names as you write those tuition bills in the fall' 'I've got a son who's about to go to college. Period ' ' They (council) want to accomplish something that is absolutely ILLEGAL! !! ' ' If you're listening to black radio or Lincoln ware, he's not going to be sharing with you the facts'

The Official 700 WLW Sucks Thread!
On air cunningham is not Bill Cunningham. Its a persona he developed. I've talked to Bill off the air a few times and he was a nice rational guy. On the air, he develops this persona. What scares me is the amount of people who take him 100% seriously though.

I heard he said those quotes from 2 different people on monday... Pro, I thought his gameplan was to divide bike and rail supporters by pinning them against each other. Now, I'm not so sure. These statements are bizarre and have no political advantages. My guess is either he was upset by a question asked or just had a temporary honest brainfart

According to two people, John cranley is opposed to the central Parkway bike path and that he Even stated 'No one rides bikes' and 'It's stupid for bikes to be on streets'

Cincinnati Streetcar / The Connector News
Murray is pleasantly surprising me with her words but I still wont believe it until we see some votes. I think many, including myself, are skeptical of the 'I'm for light rail' statements coming from unexpected sources. Chris Smitherman, Bill Cunningham, Scott Sloan, John Cranley, & others have all publicly stated that they are 'for light rail' but against this streetcar plan. They aren't. Cunningham & 700wlw were against metromoves. Smitherman proposed 2 ballot initiatives to stop all rail inside city limits. Cranley said during the 2013 debates that he supports light rail and that he didn't support the double tax of metromoves...Now he hates all rail. They are just saying anything to try and kill the streetcar project. Whatever light rail plan that comes up wont be good enough. It will either be too expensive, not go far enough, go too short, or wont have the ridership in their eyes. Case and point....In 2008, John Cranley stated to the Enquirer that he would be more 'easily persuaded' to support the streetcar if it went to uptown. Roxanne Qualls, who was also against the project at the time, agreed. She pushed for the uptown phase, delaying the project, & then cranley became even more opposed to the project. This is what they do and have done for over a decade. I have an Enquirer article dating back to 2008 that goes into detail about rail projects in Cincinnati. It is titled 'Foes of public transit have a long history in this city' citing 'in the name of fiscal conservatism'. Whether its the Cincinnati Southern Railway, the subway, the Inclines, applying for funds in the 1970's , metromoves, and now the streetcar, the gameplans are very similar. 'Now is not the right time' 'We have more important priorities' 'We can't afford it' 'I'd support it if it ____.' 'It doesn't go far enough' 'Its too ambitious' 'Its going to take money away from ____' 'How about we build a _____ instead?' and on and on. I have a feeling deep down Amy Murray really does believe what she is saying. However, her base is foaming at the mouth already. She's gotten hate mail, hate tweets, and hate facebook messages just for going to portland. IMO Politically, it wouldn't be wise for her to support any form of light rail or 2nd phase of streetcar COA$T, as crazy as they are, Are the only opposition I know of that have been honest on their anti rail position in this streetcar debate from start to finish. They hate all rail and aren't afraid to say it.

COAST
The thing that concerns me is that COAST/700wlw/Smitherman/Enquirer have hammered this issue for so long that they could scare away potential riders. They are doing the same thing to Mahoganys They did the same thing to the freedom center. They tried to do it to washington park, Fountain Square, & others.
-
COAST
Speaking of which, Rhodes claimed on Twitter that the streetcar would have only 500 riders per day. Then, he lowered that to 50 riders per day. All of these "estimates" were, of course, based on absolutely nothing and disregard the actual numbers from the streetcar study. Still an improvement from his & the rest of the crew's earlier talking point that 'no one will ride the streetcar'...Not one person
-
COAST
^Just gotta be patient and hold these public figures accountable to some of these outrageous statements. COAST, smitherman, 700wlw and the rest sounded off in the same way against fountain square renovation and Washington Park. Now their quotes look ridiculous Soon the Streetcar will be added to that list
