  1. How often do rails get paved over for bike trails and then removed for a new rail project afterwards?
  2. How much would it cost to remove the bike path, who would pay for that ? Would that be a talking point for opposition & bike supporters to never remove the bike path?
  3. You guys are right. I guess I'm just skeptical of Cranley's intentions.
  4. Regardless, Wasson way bike Trail has unanimous support on council and from Cranley. They are fast tracking this. So if there's any option to salvage it for rail, it better happen fast. Otherwise you can kiss that right of way goodbye for light rail
  5. Here is the podcast Jake is referring to of Amy Murray's recap of the Portland trip http://www.700wlw.com/media/podcast-sterling-on-700wlw-sterling/sterling-talks-street-car-24482273/
  6. Found it interesting that on the morning she was travelling to Portland, she called 55krc to soothe Brian Thomas. Her last day in Portland, she calls 700wlw. I glanced at her facebook wall as well and some of her supporters are flipping out. One already called her a 'turncoat' Also, I heard a 700wlw news promo this morning on Murray...It seemed more like a warning from them to her rather than news.
  7. Officials trying to change Ohio Governor's mind about WHAT, exactly? There's no changing Kasich's mind.Lets put that to option to rest. We need Fitzgerald. Even then it may not be enough because of all the gerrymandered tea party districts
  8. Does it destroy Smitherman's argument of having to move the trunk lubricated in oil underneath vine?
  9. From the WCPO I-Team 'Investigative' Report originally titled 'Streetcar will cause accidents, deaths', we have this gem of a quote from COAST member Tom Brinkman: http://www.wcpo.com/news/local-news/i-team/cincinnati-streetcar-critics-streetcar-will-cause-accidents-deaths
  10. That would be true if he was an executive mayor. Fortunately, I think council has enough progressive votes to prevent him from undoing most of what he'd like to undo. Cranley will certainly drag his feet and slow the progress, but hopefully council won't let us start moving backwards. True. Lets hope. In the meantime, Smitherman's strong mayor ballot initiative needs to go down in flames
  11. Cranley is going to destroy everything gained the last 8 years simply out of political revenge
  12. The streetcar was: Socialist Marxist Crime train Too Short Too long No one will ride it Trolly Folly Crack train Thug Train Yuppie Train Hipster Train Leftist Train Bankrupt the city Make us Detroit Downgrade our credit rating Take money away from our police Take money away from fire Take money away from roads Take money away from potholes Now its: An asset
  13. The streetcar was a Republican idea to begin with. It only became a "Democrat" issue after Chris Bortz turned on his own project in 2011, meaning it fell in Mallory's lap. There was stuff going on back around 2006-07 that seems impossible now, like both Ghiz & Cranley voting for the streetcar while dating. Oh, and I heard that JUDGE Ghiz was going to be pressured to recuse herself had the pro-streetcar charter amendment been placed on the spring 2014 ballot because of her past streetcar votes while serving on council and for having dated now-mayor Cranley. Whoa...Cranley and Ghiz dated?!?
  14. 'In Bid for GOP Convention, Cincinnati Republicans tout....Streetcar?' http://www.bizjournals.com/cincinnati/blog/2014/02/in-bid-for-gop-convention-cincinnati.html
  15. Chris Smitherman is proposing that cincinnati changes its charter to allow a 'strong mayor'. http://news.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20140226/NEWS010801/302260148 I don't like this idea one bit with Cranley in charge
  16. Pres Obama will also announce a $600-million competition for Dept of Transportation grants for "transformative" infrastructure projects.... Would be nice if we could get some for the uptown phase of the streetcar.
  17. They need to investigate why so many people in towns with streetcars want to commit suicide. I-Team Follow up to Quimbob:
  18. One of the biggest things we can do is keep an eye out on what is being said and done by opponents in regards to this project. There are a lot of people who are actively rooting for the project to fail and there are a handful of people in positions of power doing everything they can to make it fail. We've seen what can happen when these people win the Public Debate(Mahogany's). We can't let that happen to the streetcar Although its improved dramatically,We've still got quite a bit of PR to do.
  19. Overheard someone this morning in otr say 'the streetcar probably won't happen' while looking at utility construction.
  20. Cranley has now gotten rid of extra hours and increased rates. He just wants to pay for new meters and more enforcement He also has already rejected another offer from Xerox who is offering city control, more money and saying they have 'better technology' http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20140219/NEWS010801/302190127 Its cranley and smitherman's world, were just living in it
  21. Marc Amazon of 700wlw said last night that no one is going to pay 1 dollar to ride the streetcar and then walk out right into a snow drift Amy Murray also praised John Cranley late and said 'John Cranley is willing to work with anyone. Look at the streetcar. He probably had the votes to stop it but he decided to pause it ' Talk about revisionist history . Completely correct...Other than the fact John Cranley stated to Dan Hurley that he definitely would've stopped it had he had the votes.
  22. We could. Unfortunately the highway/oil lobby has a stranglehold on our state elected officials. Kasich, who appointed oil men on all the transportation boards, all the way down to the state senators & representatives. Can't really do much right now
  23. I hope I'm wrong, but its still my feeling that a large chunk of those citizens 'clamoring for light rail instead of the streetcar' were just saying that to kill the streetcar. For instance, Smitherman and Cranley both said "I support light rail". Does anyone honestly believe that either would support a sales tax increase or pursuing federal funds for light rail?
  24. Cr anley is doing what we all knew he wanted to do. He used the parking deal as a wedge issue solely to get elected & now realized he needs a 'new' parking deal to pay for all the spending he's doing with mlk, cops, ff. He has recently publicly stated that he wants to eliminate entire departments to balance the budget and pay for more cops/ff. Everything with Cranley is politics first, Cincinnati second. Forget mann, Smitherman is his right hand man So the state of the city relies on these two men and their political ambitions
