  1. Random... But a while ago I remember someone posting Cleveland's former rail network (KJP?). I'm putting together a project on transit and was hoping someone can help me get it. Any help is appreciated!
  2. Granted I have had absolutely ZERO interactions with either administration, but I recall reading (perhaps in Cleveland Magazine?) that Mayor Norton said if merging with Cleveland was in the best interest of East Cleveland, he'd do it.
  3. It's posted in this thread. Being the nice guy that I am, I went back through the pages to look for it for you.... http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,20680.msg566832.html#msg566832 :) Thanks! Still would rather people walk on the streets, but I also would've liked people to use one of the million-freaking parking lots/garages we already have instead of (RIP)Columbia. So I'll take this over more destruction to downtown!
  4. Apologies if this is already posted somewhere, but do you have the diagram showing what you're talking about, KJP? Sounds interesting. Ultimately I'd rather people have to walk around Cleveland and see what we have to offer. But something underground would definitely be the lesser of two evils.
  5. I don't understand why they set penalties for landmark buildings. If it's so historical (and it damn sure is with Higbee), why set a price tag? Perhaps they thought it was so high that nobody would ever hit it, but that's not a scary number to some business folks in this day and age. If the city proclaims something historical, they shouldn't put any kind of price tag to tempt someone. Cleveland's historical buildings are like its children. I can't imagine a good parent putting any kind of price tag on their kids, even if they do think it'll never be reached.
  6. Well, I'm a Cleveland resident of voting age who would vote for it! So... there's one! :)
  7. How does this issue even make a ballot? I don't see how anyone would object. I mean... It's not like E.C. is in a different state, like East Chicago and East St. Louis are.
  8. Wow... Well said, inlovewithcle! I've never bought the "We'll just to number one in poverty" argument, regardless if it's true or not. If it's ultimately going to improve the quality of life for the people of Northeast Ohio (which would undoubtedly better our ranking, if we care), then I'm all for it. I'd love for people to start talking about welcoming East Cleveland into the city, outside of just UO.
  9. I've always liked Positively Cleveland's logo for some reason, but to each their own! I'll try and walk by after work and see if there are any updates.
  10. Keep the updates comin'!
  11. Agreed, Hts. Agree that it would be great to see the surrounding neighborhoods benefit, but definitely will take E.C. It makes a lot of sense. With the Stokes/Windemere hub, the booming Healthline and success of nearby residential units, it only makes sense to continue down the once (perhaps future?) famous Euclid Ave. But hopefully other neighborhoods surrounding U.C. will soon figure out how to benefit.
  12. Glad to see E.C. get its own thread!
  13. Saw this early in the morning and was damn glad. A few months ago I was showing off the University Circle projects to my Aunt, saying I hope it spills over to East Cleveland sooner rather than later. If this is successful and helps the East Cleveland economy, I wonder if it will spur merger talks again. I remember reading Mayor Norton say he'd be open to it if it would be to the benefit of East Cleveland to merge with Cleveland. It's such a tiny area that already has a major Cleveland transit hub. If University Circle essentially extends into East Cleveland, a merger would seem to make sense. Either way (and back on topic), glad to see this!
  14. Just got sent this event from someone at RTA that will be hitting CLE: http://supporttransit.org/
  15. New signage on E. 4th and Euclid!

Looking like 9/24, but need to confirm with some bars. Will keep you all posted!
  17. Sounds like you have far more experience in this than me, but my limited experience has been that sometimes, politicians simply have their minds made up. Not to get TOO far off base, but I know someone who went to a Downtown Cleveland Resident's "party" that Councilman Cimperman and Mayor Jackson attended. He tried to have his voice heard in opposition to taking down the Columbia Building and they were allegedly uninterested in discussing the matter or budging. But I agree that it's probably on par with voting to let your opinion known, face-to-face. Do we have an UrbanOhio thread posting public meetings for different issues?
  18. If the much toned down version you heard is true, I still don't think the idea is 100% true. Sure, it helps to be there and have your opinion heard, but folks can also write and visit politicians to let their opinion known outside of public meetings. We can also vote them out! So while it's great to attend such meetings, someone's voice can still be heard if they don't attend.

Sounds great! Is there a prototype of what Lucas County is hoping to do, or is this resolution simply to say "we'd support something like 3-C"?
  20. I think the "if you don't attend, you don't matter" approach is more than a bit harsh... Not everyone knows when public meetings are and some people work two jobs or simply have prior obligations. It's great if folks can make it to public meetings, but I wouldn't 100% disregard their opinion if they simply couldn't make it.

That's one of the main arguments I've always made. I badly want to make an RTA video with a side-by-side screen showing Rapid rider get more work done than guy stuck in traffic.

    Great stuff!
  23. Sorry, I didn't mean highlighting Ohio rail, since I know all we have is Cleveland and late-night Amtrak. The video I had in mind would showcase other city's transit, the young people, business people who use them and share facts about the benefits of transit as well as some sad facts for Ohio, including that Columbus is the largest city with no rail. I figured it could be done in a similar style as the videos Downtown Cleveland Alliance has been producing of late. I'll head on over to the All Aboard Ohio thread! Cheers
  24. Thanks for sharing this. Sad to hear there are currently no ongoing efforts. Perhaps this question will need to get kicked to another thread, but does All Aboard Ohio have ANY videos highlighting rail in Ohio?
  25. Apologies in advance, as I'm sure this topic has been discussed thoroughly. But I find searching the forum rather time consuming, so I thought I'd just ask! Are there any plans (ongoing, future or otherwise) to introduce rail into Columbus? Being the largest city without rail isn't exactly a list I want Columbus number one in! Thanks in advance and cheers!
