  1. I'm looking at going car-less in Cleveland and came across My City Wheels. According to their website, they're located in University Circle and have a strike over Shaker Square. Anyone know about the program? I just wrote to them, arguing they should expand to the surface lot right next to my building at 668 Euclid :).
  2. I just walked by the site this morning on my re-routed walking commute to work around E. 9th Avengers madness. Hopefully it's finished before I go back to my regular commute!
  3. There was, but it got put on hold -- again. I've chatted with Cimperman before about similar developments. I believe the Towpath is getting linked to the Flats...? Any timeline on the CVR to Cleveland or is it on hold indefinitely?
  4. There is SARTA express bus to service to CAK from the Akron Intermodal Transit Center (served by Akron Metro RTA's North Coast Express and Megabus from Cleveland): http://www.sartaonline.com/pdf/routes/081_Dec2010_web.pdf If you're interested in commuter rail between the three cities: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,11978.0.html If you want to take a train between the cities today, you can. This service operates 10 trains a day (six north of Akron, four south of Akron), five days a week June-October, with weekend-only service north of Akron only November-May: http://www.cvsr.com/TrainSchedule.aspx I've thought about (and have chatted with Akron Metro/SARTA via Twitter) about connecting to CAK with Megabus. But they don't offer the service during the weekend, which would be troublesome for me. Plus AirTran has plenty of delays, so would be risky to book a bus ticket with Megabus. The Rockside station is actually a sorta quick bus ride... except the 77 drops off a little over a mile away. I really need a bike! Is there any talk of continuing the CVR to Cleveland?
  5. Perhaps not the right place to ask, but I'm looking for the scoop on all things Akron-Canton. I take in Cleveland development news like a bad drug habit, but know next to nothing about what's going on in Akron-Canton. Mostly curious if the downtown populations are increasing like in Cleveland. On a side note, very badly wish we had 1.) RTA service to CAK and 2.) A train going back and forth between the three cities!
  6. Huzzah!
  7. I don't know, but none of the Market District planning future plans floating around keeps that plaza in it's current, suburbanesque incarnation. Excellent!
  8. I emailed whatever contact info was on that Browns Town website as soon as it went live... Never heard back.
  9. For what it's worth (presumably very little), I too have noticed the clunks along Euclid Ave. (where I live and work), but it really doesn't bother me in the least. I chalk it up to sounds of the city that you grow immune to. It reminds me of when suburbanites look at me in awe, wondering how I can possibly sleep at night with all those bus sounds and sirens going off! But of course I wouldn't miss it if it were remedied, either.
  10. Nobody is going to pay to ride the Healthline between those stops as is. Nobody is checking for RTA passes :/. That said, I'm cool with the trolly servicing another road! Prospect makes sense.
  11. I rode during rush hour yesterday and it didn't seem any busier than buses I've ridden in other cities that have a pay up front approach. Ultimately it doesn't bother me... just something I noticed! I could've sworn I saw someone use the smart card machine and it beeped. Maybe they were just looking at it, though... Can't wait for a smart card! Will definitely ride more then. Cheers, Joe
  12. Good point on perception. That's why when I was a suburbanite I assumed RTA was a deathtrap. Poor people get on and they just go all stabby, right!? I didn't necessarily think I was being cheated or something. More an observation. But I did go ahead and assume they were losing more than they probably are. For the Healthline, I don't think they need anything more advance to collect fares. Just make people load up on the front, like on the regular city buses! For the Rapid, I'm guessing they don't have the funds to create turnstiles with a transit officer watching - like Chicago. In other news, do we have smart cards? I've chatted with the GCRTA twitter account about it and they said it's in the making, but will be a while. Yet when I was getting on the Healthline, I saw a "Smart Card" machine...
  13. Interesting... did not know that. But then again, think about how long this has presumably been going on. 20% over a long period of time is a lot of money. Maybe they wouldn't be as worried about the federal government cutting 30% of public transit funds.
  14. Random thoughts/questions... Since moving downtown, I've made a point of using RTA more - mostly because I hate driving and I left my car in another neighborhood. That said, I had already ridden the Rapid plenty. It seems unless you're getting off at Tower City, you can ride for free and won't get caught. I've been taking the trolly, making my already short commute laughable. That's free. I took the Healthline for the first time yesterday. Some cops at the station in front of Star Plaza halfheartedly glanced to see if people had tickets, but nobody had to swipe. It seemed that at almost any other station, you could get on and ride for free. Once more, I bought a 1-ride pass. It didn't get swiped and it says I have until January of 2012 to use it. So if I never have to swipe, I could theoretically continue riding the Healthline at the price of one ticket. My only experience riding one of the regular city buses was on the 81 from Ohio City to Public Square. There I had to enter in the front and swipe my ticket, which is typical of Chicago during my almost 2 years there. So my question is... how the heck does RTA make make money? Do they purposely overlook these loopholes, because they know many can't afford it or what? Cheers! Joe
  15. Surprised to see everyone dogging on MGB. I love their Chorizo Joe! Then again - I'm no food connoisseur, so perhaps I'm easy to please!

Hey everyone! Not sure if this should go in sports discussion, since I'm not talking about an actual professional team... Anywho - was wondering if anyone knows of a team handball team in Cleveland. No, not the sport old dudes play on a racquetball court. I'm thinking of the Olympic sport. Any help would be great! Cheers, Joe

Thanks for the feedback. But the goal with this crawl was to include various public transit options that many suburbanites haven't used, most notably the Rapid. We also want to keep this crawl in Cleveland proper to show young professionals the benefits of living Cleveland proper while showing off multiple neighborhoods in the city limits. We'll also be getting off the Rapid stop in University Circle to show off the constriction going on to folks who are unfamiliar with the latest happenings. We have bars on board and are in talks with others that we'll slowly be revealing over the next month along with the charity that will benefit. Let me know if you have any other questions! Cheers, Joe

We planned on the corner of W. 25th and Lorain. I'll make it more clear when I get back to a computer. I've been in touch with RTA since I first stumbled across the idea and they love it. I've chatted with them via Twitter and email. They just can't officially endorse it, because they're funded by tax dollars. Cheers! Joe
