  1. Hi all! Had a stupendously awesome freakin' time riding the Rapid this weekend. I'm going to do a bit of writing on it with some pics, but am also foolishly hoping that more routes are being created. Can anyone validate my optimism? Both myself and my big city (NYC/CHI) lady friend were very impressed. We can't wait to ditch our car once we move downtown. And while we love the Shaker Square connection, it would be great to have something go out to Coventry neighborhood, Collinwood, etc. Cheers! Joe
  2. I had heard they were doing very well thus far. I've been in a couple of times, too, and while I didn't see massive crowds, I didn't expect to either. I know nothing of fashion or stores or whatever, but my girlfriend loved the store, saying it reminded her of Anthropologie in Chicago. While I have no idea if that comparison is accurate, I do know that Anthropologie is successful and never has massive crowds inside. I've been happy to see what I've seen my two visits, crowd wise. Sooo, yeah. Optimistic!
  3. And gay couples, people, families. I don't have a link, but I've read plenty on how gay folks do wonders with gentrifying any given neighborhood.
  4. Well there ya go. Now join me at the games!
  5. After taking a quick look, it seems they have worse than 17K nights and better: http://espn.go.com/mlb/team/schedule/_/name/cin/cincinnati-reds. I don't feel like taking the time to see who's doing better. But regardless, the first place Tribe should be bringing in more than 17K.
  6. Missed the non-hub city to CLE. Thanks!
  7. Agreed. The Reds just had a Monday sellout and they're not playing better baseball. It's also not impossible to get weekend tickets for Reds games. (StubHub is cheap!).
  8. I plan on doing some traveling within the airport next time I travel :) Random question, but still airport related... Is there a way to determine what flights are connecting in Cleveland in advance? I'm sure this comes as no surprise to you vets, but I overheard a pilot talking about how in many cases it's cheaper to find a flight that's connecting in Cleveland than a flight originating in CLE. For example, two people were traveling to Philly on the same day. One flew Pitt-CLE-Philly and the other CLE-Philly direct. The Pitt flight was cheaper. So I'm trying to figure out how to search for flights that connect in CLE.
  9. Just a quick addition to this Slavic Village talk... I've never been there myself. But I plan on doing the Walk & Roll in August (https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=206247489409921&ref=notif&notif_t=event_invite). And because I'm always interested in hearing about neighborhood development, I spoke with someone who lives there and was quoted in Live Cleveland as loving living in Slavic Village. She backed up what the magazine quoted and said she feels completely safe there, while adding you have to be smart, because it is in the city - not a 'burb. She added that while there is no night life to speak of right now, there are other young people like her in the area that are working to make the neighborhood better. Sooo I'm optimistic!
  10. Nobody cares to see the Rockies. Interleague play against teams from out west is a waste of time. But people care to see the hometown Tribe, yes?
  11. I believe you're referring to the Positively CLE, CLE + and Greater Cleveland Sports offices relocation. Yes but if I remember correctly, I thought they said they were leaving open the corner spot for some cleveland related restaurant or store. That would be a-okay with me! But I have no info on that...
  12. I believe you're referring to the Positively CLE, CLE + and Greater Cleveland Sports offices relocation.
  13. Great! Perhaps we'll check it out.
  14. I heard that, too, but didn't know if anyone had info on a possible soft opening taking place over the weekend. It'd make sense, with the Open Air Market and whatnot.
  15. Went to the game last night. Great time in one of America's best ballparks, as per usual. BUT... 17K on a beautiful night for a first place team? GO. TO. THE. F-ING. GAME, CLEVELAND! That is all :)
  16. I see folks drinking, too. Was wondering if it was a soft opening, so I can take my visiting lady-friend to it tomorrow or Saturday. Anyone have any info?
  17. Amen! I'm definitely rooting for this to succeed in hopes for more mergers in the future. It baffles me that you can see the end of the Linndale corp limit on 71 when you get to the start of it.
  18. I'll explore more. I actually saw the Rock Hall when I got back, but it was late and it was ghost town at the airport. I decided I'd come to the airport early next time just to check it out. It made me start thinking of an airport like a neighborhood. I went from not caring about it to realllly caring about it.
  19. Well, then a lot can change in an hour, I suppose! It was probably one of the shorter waits I've had, especially considering I've done more flying out of Chicago. Again - I'm down with the short wait. Just wouldn't mind seeing it bustling a little more. You'd think people went to the Charlotte airport just to grab lunch, as packed as it was in the afternoon! I suspect that also helped Charlotte grab the DNC from us, too, unfortunately (along with the hotels).
  20. I don't actually care for O'Hare myself. I just feel like others would consider that a superior airport. I think I might need to explore our airport a bit more. The past couple of times I've come from the long term parking garages and only walked by Samuel Adams Toasts Cleveland and the GLBC. I haven't seen any of these restorations. I actually flew out Monday morning and am sad to report that it certainly wasn't busy :/ (Flight was at 10:25am, got there around 8:30). Don't get me wrong - love the quick lines, etc. But not if it means nobody is using our airport!
  21. I guess some of my concern for our airport is the perception it gives first-timers to Cleveland. Most come in knowing our less than stellar rep. On FourSquare, many of the popular "tips" complain about how terrible our airport is. I've never been to Charlotte, but I just had two layovers in their airport, had a nice lunch at a Charlotte BBQ place in the airport and left with a good impression of Charlotte. It's completely irrational, because I've never even set foot outside the airport! But that's how people think, it seems. So if we have a kick-ass airport, maybe folks who have layovers will be more likely to come back sometime. Not to mention it'd give a better first impression to people here on business. Just some thoughts!
  22. Good point! Is there any way everyday folk like us can help it succeed? Y'know... New restaurant opens, so you go there. New store opens, you buy stuff. How do we support this? Wear tee shirts?
  23. How about University Circle adds the "Dan Gilbert School For Children Who Can't Read Good and Want To Learn How To Do Other Stuff Good Too" with a Comic Sans sign?
  24. I've been doing quite a bit of traveling for work, so it's forced me to compare our airport to others. On my way back, I overheard a pilot who was riding coach talk about how Cleveland will lose its hub status in the next two years, and unfortunately, I've noticed that our airport seems sub-par to others I've been to recently. (O'Hare, Minneapolis, Charlotte, Dallas to name a few). I know UO is awesome at updating newbies to the forum like myself on the latest goings on. So I was hoping someone could give me an update on what's going on to improve our airport and keep its hub status! Thanks in advance. Cheers, Joe
  25. Sounds good to me! Wish there were more talks about 'burbs merging with Cleveland, but I'll take it!
