Cleveland - Manufacturing Mart
Hey UrbanOhio, It's been a little over one year and we have been moving very quickly. In as short as I can explain it, here is the progress we've made: 1. We've added over 1 million dollars combined to our permanent exhibitors' top line sales. This growth has transformed into more than 8 new jobs! 2. We started a club, Club MFG-NA (Club Manufacturing - North America) that gives manufacturers access to enterprise-sized tools so they can grow. a. We partnered with Barnes Distribution to offer manufacturers with under 100 employees the same purchasing power of the 'Big Guys' for their Class 'C' supplies (the nuts/bolts/cleaning supplies/etc. to keep a shop running which are usually under $100 per item). Barnes Distribution is throughout the USA and Canada, headquartered in Cleveland. b. We partnered with New Wave Plastics, in the Stockyards, to offer manufacturers a free waste-stream audit. Our goal is to help each manufacturer reach a zero-waste-to-landfill stream. New Wave Plastics specializes in not only post-industrial plastics, but also cardboard/papers/metal/plastic plated/PCBs. With our partnership alone, we've helped keep over 2 million lbs of post-industrial waste out of landfills!!! Feels good :) 3. We've worked on numerous product development and marketing projects for inventors, manufacturers and product companies. We helped successfully license a product to a fortune 500 company. 4. In our 'spare' time, we've been diligently working to build our patented software to which (when it works) could potentially bring more than 6,000 jobs to Cleveland. We are not software engineers, so we continue to build the product as much as we can while we apply for funding. 5. We started a quarterly magazine that we print and have distributed throughout the US when ordered. It's called 'Capital of Know-How' and inside, we highlight manufacturers, inventors, machinists/workforce, exports, innovation and products that are 65% or more made in the USA. It can be viewed on our website www.ManufacturingMart.com 6. Most recently, we've been fortunate to find an awesome writer who helps us build a blog, www.JustWannaTalk.com . In this blog you can freely talk about how you are 6 degrees from manufacturing and how you see it affect your daily life, what industry used to be and anything about industry that grinds your gears. BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT AS OF THIS MOMENT IS OUR INTERNATIONAL MANUFACTURING CONFERENCE AND EXPO THIS FEBRUARY 14-15,2012 IN THE GALLERIA. WWW.MFGTRADESHOW.COM This show is going to be like the World Fairs Cleveland hosted in the 1930's. Did you know the fairs brought 4 million people to Cleveland!!! They built the municipal stadium and a few temporary bridges for the fairs alone. Also, its been said that companies like VitaMix and the first commercial ice cream cone machine came from the connections made at the fairs. (but don't quote me on that one) This show is happening in just under TWO WEEKS! In my opinion, this conference and tradeshow are like product development and economic development on steroids. Under one roof, the exhibiting job shops, Tier 1 & 2 suppliers, and all types of manufacturers will work together with exhibiting inventors, product development experts, NASA engineers with technologies ready to license, marketing professionals, patent attorneys and innovative material scientists to create 'A MANUFACTURING REVOLUTION'. We also have a Workforce area filled with staffing agencies, workforce development programs, schools and training facilities to field a 'RESUME DROP OFF' during the two days. These organizations and companies are working together to fill the incredibly high amount of job openings our manufacturing community currently has. But wait, there's more. We have an amazing lineup of speakers from around North America for the conference, which is in the mornings before the exhibits open. They are covering issues like 'reshoring & restoring' and 'build local, export global'. These are world-class speakers that we are giving no more than 30 minutes to tell us what's going on in industry and share with us their predictions for The Future Of Manufacturing! So, if you know a manufacturer, inventor, buyer, entrepreneur or funder....please tell them to register for the show!!! Cleveland - Manufacturing Mart
Hello Fellow Ohioans and Manufacturing Enthusiasts! Here at The Manufacturing Mart, we are finally catching up after our launch in December and I wanted to get back to this forum to give you guys the "low down" on our development. 1. After reading some of the comments, I think it needs to be made clear that we are a private, for-profit start-up company. We are not associated with the other non-profit manufacturing advocacy groups or incubators around the area, although we do try to co-promote with them and the universities. We are a grassroots Mart looking to grow storefront by storefront in the Galleria, which as you know, is a beautiful building that has all the amenities for us to act as a permanent trade show and events venue. We love this location, we are in the heart of the financial district and we can confirm that there is still a lot of traffic in the Galleria. 2. The reason this was not a proposed project is because we are not city/government funded. We are excited to have the Medical Mart being constructed next door because it will be a good compliment to the clients we have visiting and vice versa. However, we did not see a reason to wait to be funded and then spend tax money on updates to this building or constructing a new one. We are all about upcycling this gorgeous space with the money we earn from our services at this point. 3. How have we been under the radar in the PD or local news? I don't have an answer for that one. We are embraced by other national publications with a few references in Crains Cleveland. With your help, maybe a few letters to their editors would get them on board. 4. What the heck is The Manufacturing Mart? Yes, our name says Mart, so it may seem like our business model is similar to companies owned by MMPI. However, Manufacturing Mart is really the marketing arm behind our company Capital of Know-How (CoKH). We are striving to make the area from Cleveland to Pittsburgh the capital of "the world's know-how" because in and around this area you can make anything that man has ever thought of or will think of. I left Cleveland for 3 months to help my grandmother in Florida and that is when I realized how many times I was calling back to this area to get products made. I like to call Cleveland my "manufacturing playground". My partner Mary Kaye Denning, who is originally from New York, did exhaustive research to find which area to build her vision and all signs kept pointing to Cleveland. We are extremely lucky to have such a world-class, hard-working person such as herself on the Believeland wagon! Our mission is to make machines run 24/7 - 365. In order to do that, we not only are developing this space so that job shops have a place to exhibit for new customers, but we also help them with marketing, public relations, engineering, new product development, websites and referrals. These are all important services that assist in getting the manufacturer an order from a new customer! I wouldn't call us consultants though because we do everything in-house and anything contracted like patent writing is transparent. In addition to helping manufacturers, we work with inventors to develop their ideas from sketch to shelf because we know that when the product is ready to go to market, our manufacturers will then have a new order to make. There are a few other projects we are working on that will help rebuild American manufacturing such as workforce development and educating the consumer to "read the ingredients" for American components. But our real focus is on the software we are building that essentially will become the "NASDAQ for Manufacturing Services". This software will need a fleet of people and outside funding, so any suggestions are welcomed. I can't release more about the patented software but I can tell you as a Cleveland native, engineer and inventor...we need this here. If anyone has further questions or would like to set up a time to speak, I can be reached at [email protected]. You can help support us by spreading the word about our services, venue and mission! #MFGmart , Manufacturing Mart (linkedin and facebook) Thank you and rock on, Lindsey Frick Mechanical engineer and industrial designer www.TheManufacturingMart.com
