  1. Really surprised at all the hate here for this idea and for Elon in general. I think if it ever happened it would be a game changer. I love the idea
  2. I like it. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with social clubs
  3. Told y’all they would’ve been better off building a brand new building at this rate lol
  4. Very good point. I personally think that’s the direction Tower City should go in. And it’s no accident that those mid level stores and mid level big boxes are the only ones really expanding still at this point. If they filled it with those kinds of stores, I think TC would be successful. And Steelyard wouldn’t be an impediment because TC would be more convenient to the people who work downtown.
  5. First look: MetroHealth unveils plan to turn main campus into 'hospital in a park' (photos) http://www.cleveland.com/architecture/index.ssf/2018/01/first_look_metrohealth_unveils.html#incart_m-rpt-1
  6. Not even then. Remember, Ohio City, Inc. was interested in building a streetcar line down Detroit Avenue, but RTA wasn't willing to operate it. RTA hates the very idea of competition. Or even giving anyone else a say in how well they run things. I'm not a transit expert but couldn't they just do it anyway and pay another transit authority to operate it like Laketran or something? Or is that illegal?
  7. I'm hoping we get a red line or healthline extension
  8. They are Democrats because they have to be to get reelected. Even Zack Reed seems to have said some liberal things basically just to get reelected. Correct. If you talk to Reed privately, he's basically a Republicrat
  9. It is the lack of an explicit strategy for economic growth that is the problem. THAT is the key. Once you attract more jobs at a large scale, people, money, everything will follow.
  10. So if transit is going to be a critical key, wouldn't a Cleveland proposal need to either be centered around the Tower City area (I think someone mentioned Post Office Plaza for starters) or Public Square? Would the Weston lots be too far? It's not that far of a walk but I don't know how close they want to be to rail
  11. But at what price? His point is that Amazon is apparently trying to start a bidding war for incentives by doing this so publicly. How much will the winner have to give up? Will it be worth it? What if taxpayers have to give $2 billion worth of incentives to get $2 billion worth of benefits in total over 20 years? All of those are what ifs and question marks. What's certain is roughly 50,000 more jobs created in the center city. And all the things that come with that. I don't think the city should go bankrupt to do it, but I think the city, county and state should offer the absolute largest package that we can afford
  12. That whole logic is absurd from your friend. I totally disagree with that. Having Amazon's second headquarters in a place like Cleveland would indisputably be more positive than negative and would be especially attractive in attracting and retaining other businesses. It would be like a shot of HGH to our business community. The cost-benefit analysis for Chicago may be different, but it would clearly be a net positive for us
  13. The loser mentality that some have in this state just trips me out. Go for it with everything you got, and who knows what'll happen. We weren't supposed to get the RNC either
  14. So what would you rather have the city do, not go after it? I don't understand all of this pessimism cloaked in "realism". What does the city have to lose? Go for it. All this negativity is blowing my mind. It's like the lottery, you can't win if you don't play.
  15. Glad to see this hitting the press some more http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20170913/blogs14/135366/scoping-out-cleveland-case-amazons-hq2
  16. So u want to screw over the deal AND still get the goodies? Now THATS selfish lol
  17. Sorry, but no, that's an intentionally misleading characterization when the neighborhood putting up the divide is also majority-minority. The bigger picture here is that no inner-ring suburb should be criticized for instituting measures that help preserve safety and calm in the face instability in bordering communities. Particularly when thriving outer-ring suburbs have implemented barriers to access to some for decades. If Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, Lakewood, and others want to put into place policies that help keep peace in their communities but happen to limit access to others, so be it. These communities (and others like them) have already shouldered far more than their share of the burdens that come with concentrated poverty. Sorry, but yes. I'm not surprised that you post another response that shows absolutely no understanding of the issue. It's par for the course with your posts on pretty much everything. Yup
  18. Hasn't ruined the many people I know who feed their families by working for a Dan Gilbert company, including that casino. The arrogance, the ignorance and just a complete lack of giving a damn for the people who take care of their families with these jobs is just amazing. [/qu Hasn't ruined the many people I know who feed their families by working for a Dan Gilbert company, including that casino. The arrogance, the ignorance and just a complete lack of giving a damn for the people who take care of their families with these jobs is just amazing. and the arrogance, ignorance and lack of giving a damn about taxing a top 3 poorest city in the country so Mr. Gilbert can make more money is also amazing. Dan Gilbert is, and always will be about numero uno So you're basically admitting that you don't care about the people whose livelihoods depend on his companies. Good to know. I'll make sure to let the many folks I know that work for him that, many of whom are the same people in the "third poorest city" that you claim to care about.
  19. Please tell them to speak publicly about this. Their voices don't get heard. I have a huge problem with the SEIU, many of their members live outside of the city, continuing to push things that harm the city short and long term. We need people like your friends to speak up LOUDLY. Press action, etc. If they need help getting their word out, PM me

  21. Don't sweat it. Gilbert is a smart guy and there's a Plan B, C and D for renovation. The CAVS will leave when Cleveland transitions into a west coast liberal enclave. ie Never. How many times do we have to re-learn this lesson before we realize that this?????? IS NOT TRUE? Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it
  22. Stupid. Stupid. STUPID! STUPID! STUPID! STUPID PEOPLE! Smdh
  23. The lunacy of opposing this project is just amazing. The idiocy of fighting for tax dollars that CMSD WOULD NEVER GET ANYWAY and losing the opportunity to turn the upfront money into more schools is AMAZING to me. It just blows my mind how dumb people can be. This mystical, magical tax money that CMSD is losing on, they would never get anyway because I GUARANTEE you that project will not be built without this TIF. I went to one of the meetings, and Stark is threatening to build it in the suburbs if we don't approve the TIF. Now anybody who has seen his work in the suburbs knows that he can do just that. I'm glad that 60 percent of the people who responded on the CMSD survey are not idiots and approved of a no lose situation. But if people in the city want to be fools and blow yet another major project fighting over money that doesn't exist, they will set this city back for years and years to come. (By the way, I live in the city too AND I pay taxes in the city as well)
  24. Are you referring to the constant threats to move the teams? Despicable. I know you're being sarcastic but of course not. I'm talking about the civic "leaders" that are trying to stop the Q deal by lying to people, playing on their fears and desires to return to a world gone by while doing nothing to make the neighborhood better themselves So how is that any different than the proponents of this cash grab (and the Sin Tax before it) from playing on their memories of the Browns leaving down and the idea that the Cavs could do the same. And while Dan Gilbert himself has probably never directly and publicly threatened to move the team, has he ever publicly and directly said that the Cavs are staying in Cleveland whether they get the money or not? He could write a check for the entire amount of the renovation and not feel a bump in his day. That money can and should be spent on better things for Cleveland and Cuyahoga County. So that means you're also against tax dollars being used for the arts or for the major developments that the city has benefited from (which ALL contain tax money or tax breaks in some way or another) right? If that's true then at least I'll respect your consistency, even if you're still wildly wrong. Look, this'll be my last comment on it because I don't want to get the thread locked, but at the end of the day, hurting jobs (many of which are held by the very people you claim to care about), hurting our competitiveness and damaging our market just because you want to play chicken with Dan Gilbert is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Playing this stupid, unproductive class warfare "let's stick it to the fat cat" idiocy will only hurt us. You ain't hurting Dan. But if people like you get your way, we've already blown the tens of millions of dollars of economic activity that could be coming from the NBA All star weekend. They've already said no renovation, no all star weekend. So we're already looking at losing money because of silly class envy
