Cleveland: League Park
Don't forget, in many ways the style of this church is very Black Baptist-ish so even though it's Catholic it's very compatible with the area around it. So that could be part of it. It could also be, as another mentioned, some deliberately moving into an urban parish. But I don't believe that's the entire reason the church is growing in the manner in which it is.

You're thinking about it the wrong way. I don't want to "force" anybody out of their cars. But I think we should be building our cities in a way that makes denser living and public transit usage more feasible for more people. Also, we should make the costs of driving cars reflect what they really should be and stop subsidizing car use and road building so heavily. I'm not anti-car, but I am for leveling the playing field and building cities that are more sustainable. No, you want to force people to make the decisions that you want them to make. I'm all for density and I love public transit and if we had a better system I would use it more but I will never just choose to get rid of my car. There is a balance. It's not about "making the costs of driving cars reflect what they should be". It SHOULD BE about putting other modes of transportation on a level playing field. You can raise other modes of transportation up without trying to make it so difficult for people to drive cars that they choose not to or (more likely) avoid your area altogether. I know few people who choose not to OWN a car. I know people who choose not to USE a car as much (and I wish we had better and more extensive public transportation so that I didn't have to use my car as much). But I was born and raised in the hood, where not having a car wasn't something that people chose to do willingly and it wasn't a reflection of some conscious Eco-friendly mentality, lol. I'm not riding a bicycle to everywhere and I worked hard every car I've ever had so you'll pry my car keys from my cold dead hands. But again, here is the difference in mentality. I believe it should be about making public transportation a more attractive option, not making car driving a less attractive one (especially when there are a lot more people that feel like me about it and not you)

I think this is where I disagree the most with the sentiment of UO. I support public transportation, I believe in it and I think it needs more funding. But you're not going to force people out of their cars, I wouldn't get rid of my car even if I had an option to do so and I think it's counterproductive to try to get others to. I'm an urbanist and I still believe that people need a place to park so I can imagine what the sentiment is among people who don't give a damn. We can do both. We can build developments and still not force the rest of the world to ride bikes everywhere, cause if I got a choice, I ain't getting around on a damn bike, lol. Just saying

I'm not opposed to it. Yeah the sign is gaudy but I think we need more gaudy lol

Cleveland: Downtown: Jack Cleveland Casino - Phase 2
Whoa! So I take it that it will no longer be named the "Horseshoe Casino?" Although, I bet a Cleveland "Hard Rock Casino" name would go over well....or is that also the same ownership? Hard Rock is a different company and it would make the most sense, but would they do it with the Rocksino here?

The writer of this article said in the comments that the law dates back to the 1920s. My God. We need regulatory reform

Cleveland: North Collinwood / Waterloo Arts District: Development and News
Good question. Sounds like someone got a law passed to benefit a campaign donor(s). I wouldn't be surprised to learn the one mile limit also applies to suburban bars.... What a stupid law. Why does that law exist? Can someone explain it to me?

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Moving it out of downtown would not be a good idea and moving it out of Cleveland in general would be a disaster and I wouldn't support that

I don't see what the problem is. Every corporate office building in the world has a sign outside announcing the tenants inside. This is not a big deal. I agree. Not a big deal

It needs to stay in the heart of downtown

(Mods, if this isn't the proper place, please move) This is a great building that is filling up fast. My company just moved here and it could be catalytic for the area. Former Parker Hannifin home will be transformed "“For almost 100 years, there's been no access for the community to this property,” Johnson said of the complex surrounded by a chain-link fence topped with barbed wire. “For this to flourish, it has to become a community center, a home for businesses and activities associated with the community.” Johnson, a friend and former general counsel for real estate developer and I-X Center operator Ray Park, plans to use what he learned working with Park: Don't spend money carving up space for tenants, but find space within the complex that works for them. Cleanups and fixups are the orders of the day. The well-maintained property has cabling and telephone wiring suitable for its former role providing computer and telephone services for the Clinic's far-flung properties. “That's the only way to offer low rents,” Johnson said. Heather Phillips, a Clinic spokeswoman, said the health care institution found in Johnson what it promised the city of Cleveland when it said it was moving about 700 employees to offices it owns in Beachwood and shutting the Cleveland property." http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20150823/NEWS/308239993/former-parker-hannifin-home-will-be-transformed

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
I concur with those who have said that this should stay in the heart of downtown. As others have mentioned, part of downtown's ecosystem is built around the Justice center with the many many law firms that are downtown and in that area specifically because of it. Either on the current Justice Center site or at the WHD lots (or pie-in-the-sky the Public Square lot) are probably the best options. I would love to see this combined with a transit center. There's really no reason not to. But it should stay in the heart of downtown. It would cause too much of a ripple effect to move it

I don't think anyone is saying that. There are few establishments that scream overpriced, tacky, chain, tourist trap more than Margaritaville. I have no problem with a tourist trap

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
Totally endorse this. This would probably be the best possible outcome. And as long as there's s couple of diners or something there, it keeps the foot traffic. Please pitch this to the county!

Completely agree. Why can't this be done

Cleveland: Downtown: Justice Center Complex Replacement
I highly doubt they move this out of the CBD. I for one am excited that they will finally get rid of this monstrosity. I understand that by the nature of this it will never be "pedestrian friendly" but I would hope that maybe they would consider a couple of ground floor restaurants.

The story only mentioned "incarcerated" in passing. I'm speaking more of the blogger. Isn't the entire point of the program to give jobs to EX-felons? Why should they repeat endlessly that the folks are ex-felons? Most people know what Edwin's is about

I know we're so desperate for development in this city that we cheer for basically anything that's proposed as long as it's built without a setback and isn't beige (for some reason), but that doesn't mean that everything that's proposed is good for the overall community. Glad you have such a rosy view of what Downtown's capable of supporting, though. That's definitely something we could use more of. Have you walked it in February? Or in the rain? Sure, but it's still a tourist attraction then. It's not your neighborhood theater, and it's not someplace you'd go spontaneously. I'm not sure what kind of base that provides for the theater. I just honestly think that this is going to force TCC out of business (just saying- not making any excuses for FCE), and then if this place finds it doesn't get the traffic it needs and goes belly-up, we've lost an amenity downtown. People on this board may not like the crowd at TCC, but they've been the ones supporting it for the last 20 years. This is a ridiculous argument. Even though they've made improvements, TCC is an old and outdated theater. I know, because I was working with a film production company and attempted to bring a movie to Cleveland at TCC a couple of years ago and we couldn't do it because the theater was out of date when it comes to modern cinema technology. I deliberately tried to bring it to Cleveland itself because I wanted to have the premiere in the city and not in Cinemark. We should have another theater, and yes the market can handle both. TCC should step up and compete. You're trying to make a cheap class and race argument. I'm black (and more importantly I'm pro-black) and I don't want anything to do with TCC. Sometimes bad is just bad. Tell TCC to step their game up and compete instead of making cheap, intellectually dishonest comments basically calling everyone a bunch of racists and classists for wanting a decent movie theater in the center city.
