Cleveland: Random Development and News
Not sure where to put this, but I’ve heard from a direct source that iHeartMedia informed their employees today that they are moving downtown. I’ve heard that it was mentioned on one of their shows today but I can’t confirm that. But the employees were all informed today, that I can confirm

Ah yes, the time honored tradition of virtue signaling. Shame. Hope the project still happens

Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
It’s amazing that the mayor gets no credit for all of the good in the city and all of the blame for the bad. As someone who has talked to the mayor directly on numerous occasions, he’s a good man, smarter than people give him credit for, and pragmatic. I don’t want to piss the Mods off so that’s all I’ll say

Here’s the issue, Cleveland could’ve spent the money in all of the things that you suggested and still not be able to attract companies without tax breaks/subsidies. Why? Because Columbus or Chicago or name your city will put it on the table. When we say stuff like that it’s like we forget that we’re in a nationwide competition for resources, for business, for income generation. No company, ESPECIALLY a publicly traded company who has a fiduciary responsibility by LAW to generate profit for its shareholders, will say “yeah I know Atlanta is offering us all this money to move there, but we’re gonna pick Cleveland even though they aren’t offering us anything financially because we love their downtown loop.” That will never ever happen and if it did, that company’s board of directors would fire the CEO on the spot, or the shareholders would revolt. You gotta understand all of the elements at play. We are in a competition with other locales for these same businesses, and there’s always someone trying to poach something from us. So not giving the money/tax break that you KNOW someone else will is basically opening the door and daring a company to leave. We’ve tried that too. Didn’t work out so well

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
EXACTLY. Why is this so hard to understand? Lol
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Bottom line: it was designed and built as a corporate HQ with public access IN THE 1980s! Sigh. Bad comparison. And said tower hasn’t been occupied by just one corporate tenant since, what, the 90s?

Preach!

How long has BP been gone from that building? It’s been multi tenant for a long time now. Come on

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
The “bare minimum” as you say would’ve been a damn big deal had we lost them

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
@KJP, the storefront that will be part of the parking garage, is that going to be a SHW store?

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
And they could’ve gotten the same deal or better by going somewhere else and we all (should) know that. Let’s be real

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
I’ll repeat what I said: I GET being disappointed. But to act like it’s a LOSS is a bit much, don’t you think? To just blow off the jobs being retained/gained, that’s weird to me. Especially if we’re supposed to all want what’s best for the city
-
Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
So gaining those 500 jobs aren’t valuable? Nor is retaining the Jobs that SHW currently has? I really don’t get it around here sometimes lol. Of course I wanted a big skyline altering tower like everybody else. But I’ve said and I will continue to say that the actual most important thing here is 3,500 mf’n JOBS. We are retaining jobs, gaining jobs, and not having to see yet another corporate HQ go to the suburbs or leave the region altogether. I get people are disappointed. But are we really gonna act like this is a freakin LOSS when all of those jobs are part of the equation?! Are we gonna just pretend that we could replace those easily if SHW decided to leave? The bottom line is that they have a conservative culture, we ALL knew that going in. In my view, the city won the day they decided to stay in Cleveland and stay in downtown Cleveland specifically. Anything above that was icing on the cake. So now we get no icing. And we’re disappointed. I GET IT. But where is some perspective?! 3,500 jobs retained and gained. Are you kidding me?! That’s the most important thing. So let’s not just blow off “all of this just for 500 jobs to replace the jobs we lost to Brecksville” like that doesn’t matter. I mean really? Lol

200 is a little different because of the multiple tenants. Key has a hotel attached to it (which kinda forces some public interaction) and I believe if I’m not mistaken they have multiple tenants too now. It appears that SHW’s building will be in use only by SHW

How is the post that started the debate (which is still up here) on topic but the responses to it off topic?

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
It’s amazing that even this can be seen as a bad thing. Good lord lol. Having the local affiliate of a national brand on the ground floor makes your city look big, makes your city look relevant. One of the biggest sports brands in the country in a big sports town. Now only that, but haven’t you noticed that radio stations are turning their radio content into television content now by putting cameras in their studios? It’s only being done by like most of the biggest shows in the country and by ESPN itself. In a post covid world, it’s also easy to see this area as a rallying place for Cleveland sports fans after games. Stop thinking in a box.

East Cleveland: News & Discussion
Completely disagree. It would be better for East Cleveland, Cleveland and the county for EC to merge. First of all, we already have too many cities in this county to begin with and we all know it. But also, East Cleveland is in a unique position of being a place of potential massive growth while also being uniquely unqualified and incompetent to capitalize on it. (What business would invest in an independent EC? You’d be a fool to do it now). With all of the massive investment going on in University Circle, eventually they WILL run out of room. And an EC controlled by the city of Cleveland is far more likely to benefit from that continued growth and expansion. Also, having a defunct EC right on the border of the south side of Collinwood hurts that neighborhood too. EC being part of Cleveland allows a continued and consistent development pattern. ALSO, because over half of EC is vacant, you could literally build whatever you choose and not have to worry about gentrification because many of the streets that you’re building on doesn’t have people on it anyway. AND Cleveland gets to get the population numbers of the people who ARE still there. Letting the county take it over does nothing for the city. East Cleveland needs to merge

East Cleveland needs to merge. It is too incompetent independently and it’s residents are suffering because of it
