  1. After reading a certain posters threads/posts for a while now, you learn to block them out.
  2. I will wait until it is finished, but not impressed.
  3. What's along the side of Public Auditorium in that video? It may just be something that they added to make the video look better, but there are sort of objects over what I think now is the entrance to a parking garage or entrance to the parking in front of city hall. They look to be silver columns.
  4. Awesome! Was packed yesterday. Those red arches or whatever you want to call them provided more shade than I thought they would. I had contemplated heading back up to Cleveland today to get some pictures and stuff, but I have too much to do today. All I can say is I had a great time yesterday, I got some sun and my legs are killing me. East 12th was not inviting though. They recently did the whole street up not too long ago, and it looks like it has been neglected ever since constructing finished. And all I could think about was Eaton moving....
  5. Um yeah ... This started going up today. I'll refrain from taking a picture until it's completely done. If they actually wrap the entire garage in that, it's going to be ... just wow. So much for having parking garages hidden from obscurity and blending into the surrounding environment. Bright orange stripes 8 stories tall. yikes. I can't believe the city allowed this. I'm terribly afraid of the precedent/trend this might start with the plethora of parking garages in this city. I parked on East 12th yesterday and saw them working on this. Looks like sh!t. Avenue District has nothing going on, what a waste of a development.
  6. I hope as far as the "office park" goes, it doesn't look like the buildings that Pittsburgh has put on their North Shore. They look like they belong in Cranberry, or if you're not familiar with Pittsburgh, something out in Westlake.

Great thread! Like you, I too am headed back up to Cleveland this week (planned to on St. Patty's day, but was sick) to see some old friends and check out all the progress this city has made. Great photos from the west side to the east side.

We would go boating all the time down on the river before heading to Berlin Lake. You would always find pieces of pottery along the shores of the river.

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but Leetonia is in bad shape. At least with Wellsville and other river towns, you have the interesting river history, Leetonia is just a sad case. Columbiana and Salem (both of our local towns) are doing pretty well, and have really attractive main street areas, Leetonia still has some nice bones, but not much else. They have built brand new schools and a brand new library, but with a town of some 2,000 left, it seems like a huge waste IMO.
  10. I read estimates had over 500,000 people downtown today, and this wasn't the only place packed insanely today. I read the Zoo had record numbers as well.
  11. Shocking that such a culturally diverse state like Mississippi would have issues like this? Don't even get me started on how phenomenal their education system is.
  12. Here in Youngstown one of the local stations did a nice story on the chairs and other interior designs for the casino are being made here in the Youngstown area. Made mention several times that Cleveland's casino will be open in May. Get all the people down here to spend their money in Cleveland over Pittsburgh's lackluster casino.
  13. In the interest of not getting myself permanently banned from this website, all I will say is this: I was clearly joking with that comment. I figured, but I wasn't sure. Sorry I failed to get your sarcasm.
  14. A parking garage in this location is like smacking Euclid in the face.
  15. Am I wrong here, or does Cincinnati "scream" Philadelphia when you look in certain neighborhoods? As far as St. Louis, the city is amazing, but I think Cincinnati's topography puts it a bit up on St. Louis when it comes to the overall historic atmosphere/feel/attractiveness to the city.
  16. I don't know the rules for posting articles, so I will just post the link. Figured it was an interesting article due to the fact that we have talked about Puerto Rico and Ohio here. This USA Today article is from a day or so ago, and talks about Puerto Rico's exodus and the top destinations many are headed to. Ohio is the 6th most popular destination. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/story/2012-03-11/puerto-rico-economy-brain-drain-exodus/53490820/1
  17. Go talk about it on city data. :-)
  18. I'm not so optimistic, but that's based on all of the recent development in annexed Columbus which is the same as it has been for decades: more sprawl. There is absolutely no effort to retrofit any of it. There is also a very limited area in the urban core where infill is occurring, so it better be on the very dense side of things. Does anyone expect you to be optimistic on anything Columbus? Broken record....
  19. I have noticed the same thing since moving back from Florida, the traffic. 224 tonight (Saturday) was backed up for miles, and parking lots are always full it seems, more so than past years. I know a lot of the hotels in the area are sold out because Ohio's junior high/high school wrestling tournament is going on at the Covelli Center.
  20. I was in Indianapolis in 2011, are you kidding me on the surface parking? I guess that is what Indianapolis can settle for and call it a day and say that is very little surface parking left. There is still plenty, especially in the NW, SW, and eastern portions of downtown. As far as population growth goes, let's have Cincinnati annex 361 square miles. Cincinnati is still a much more densely populated city even with 296,000 people versus over 800,000. Just like Over The Rhine, Indianapolis has Mass Avenue right on the fringes of downtown. Mass Avenue has nothing on Over The Rhine. It's a nice street with great views looking down towards downtown, nothing to write home about. On that note, Cincinnati has much more impressive developments that what the majority of Indy is building tends to draw towards the sports crowd or convention scene. I have had a good time in Broad Ripple, some 4 miles away from downtown Indianapolis, and that still wasn't that impressive. The majority of Indy is wood framed houses that really have little to be desired. In a few years a streetcar will be going up and down on the streets of Over The Rhine and hundreds to thousands of new residents will call the neighborhood home. All I am saying is I don't want Cincinnati to even look to Indianapolis on what they would want to do. Indianapolis is far from city anyone should look at to build a dynamic city, in which Cincinnati is. I want Cincinnati to build off of its past and build a bright future. There are plenty of things that I would like to see Cincinnati do differently, but it is definitely moving in the right direction in which few cities across the country are going in. I am also tired of Cincinnati being compared to Indianapolis, and then you lead into your typical Cincinnati doesn't do this while Indy does this stuff. Indianapolis and Cincinnati have nothing in common outside of the fact Cincinnati is right down the interstate from Indianapolis. Compare Cincy to Louisville, or better yet, St. Louis. The Cincy and Indy thing is pretty old. That's why I am interested in why Indianapolis was even discussed in a thread that is talking about Over The Rhine.
  21. How on earth in downtown Cincinnati behind Indianapolis and Louisville's cores? Downtown Indy is a big chain downtown that doesn't even touch what Cincinnati has on a historic element. Indianapolis is also ravaged by surface parking lots, and Louisville isn't too far behind. Maybe a P.F Chang's is great for what Downtown Indy is looking for, but I would rather see the diversity that OTR brings versus what Indianapolis brings to the table. Sorry, but the last thing I want for Cincinnati, or for Cincinnati to follow, is the city of Indianapolis.
  22. Down on Euclid, those buildings have had the plastic on the windows for some years now. Still looks the same as in 2010 when I lived down the street in Fenn Tower.
  23. Great set! I too am curious about the Stanley Block as well. Figured that would have been gone by now.

They were in Downtown Youngstown yesterday at the Business Incubator.
  25. Besides the World Choir Games this summer, are there any other big events Cincinnati is looking to host in the coming years to show off its new streetcar?
