Cleveland: Lakefront Development and News
Yep. Hosting a Superbowl would be nice, but does it have any plans to come back to Indianapolis after this? Yes, it's a nice stadium, but Miami and Phoenix are always going to be favored. As far as Brown Stadium goes, I am really not a fan. I think it looks cheap and was built quickly without any thought process behind it besides bringing the Browns back to Cleveland (which obviously is/was very important). We have this big orange bowl that sits on a largely vacant lakefront. Like most, I am highly skeptical we will even see any lakefront development in many decades to come.

Eggner's Ferry Bridge Collapse in western Kentucky (US 68/KY 80)
The rust alone on that bridge doesn't look comforting. Good thing no one was hurt.

Cleveland: Cleveland State University: Development and News
Exactly! As a student who lived on campus and also commuted before that, I do not see what all the crying is about with parking. Walk. It is not that big of a deal. It's plain and simple. CSU is not saying forget the commuters, let's focus on the urban dwellers now. There is still plenty of parking, and it's not hard to find ALL that parking that is on and around campus. I had no problem parking in the south garage and walking to the urban affairs building over by Playhouse Square. No one is missing the point here. It's just kind of sad that some students are going to go to this length about the parking. Guess these are the ones that don't get out much. These problems are not limited to CSU. I also went to school in Gainesville, Florida and that was worse. Sorry, delete this if I went off topic. Glad to see the new development is coming along well.

God forbid you walk. The south garage is never used (so there is plenty of space there) plus it is almost brand new. And if it takes you thirty minutes to get to even the furthest section on campus from that very garage, then you must be having a conversation with everyone on your way there. I parked in the garage along 90 and I remember there would be plenty of spaces on the top decks, but people would wait and circle to find a spot on the ground level or close enough to where you could walk to the connector instead of walking up or down stairs.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
Looks like we went from a work force of 5.9 million to 5.811 million. Like I said, don't know if I am reading it all correctly, either way, Ohio doesn't look good at all.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
Forget that, not a shocker here, but Michigan lost much more than Ohio did. But that's not saying much. Ohio still was pretty bad.

Ohio: General Business & Economic News
Ok, I am not sure if I am reading this wrong or not, but according to this data, Ohio lost more jobs than any other state :drunk:. Looks like John Kasich continues to live up to being a failure. Even California gained jobs... http://www.bls.gov/news.release/metro.t01.htm

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Wow. ODOT has no problem spending what, over a billion $$$$ or maybe even more on capping overpasses, re-doing on and off ramps, etc in downtown Columbus at the moment... but Cleveland desperately needs a new bridge that connects the entire westside to the city and 120,000 people drive on it everyday. I hate driving on that bridge, and it looks like other comments to that article hold the same feeling. Way to go ODOT, screw over NE Ohio again! http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,2924.msg598091.html#msg598091 Not a surprise under the current administration... Still, capping bridges vs building a major bridge for an entire CBD.

Cincinnati: Downtown: The Banks
Just read that recent article from Cincinnati.com, but I still have a question. When will phase two start? Or does demand first have to be there before construction.

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
John Kasich doesn't build trains, now he doesn't build roads and bridges. I understand there are budget issues and it is easy to sit here and point fingers, but if we can't have trains we better have some of the best roads and bridges in the country, and that just isn't the case. Jerry Wray was appointed by Kasich... another Kasich failure.

Columbus: Random Development and News
MissinOhio replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI was just wondering this when I read some of his recent undertones in another thread; how much longer do you deal with posters like this on UrbanOhio. Anyway, was down in Columbus last weekend and had a great time in a lot of areas in the city. Saw a lot of Minnesota cars, too. Imagine that!

Stuck in Ohio or Content?
I am going to assume Kentucky is home, but Kentucky, really? I drove up 75 through Kentucky several times, and I don't think I have felt as uncomfortable in a long time as I have in Kentucky. It was backwards to say the least. I have heard the horror stories of the poverty in Kentucky. I stopped and couldn't understand a word anyone was saying, everyone looked depressed, and I don't think I have seen so many overweight people in my life. Louisville is OK, but Lexington sprawled like it was on steriods. The only part that felt decent was NKY. Good luck on the move back though.

Stuck in Ohio or Content?
I would take an Ohio winter over a SE summer any year. Another example of people up north just not getting it. I lived outside of Gainesville in the true south. From the poverty, dirt roads that literally destroyed my car (like driving on Michigan roads but they are sand), and the rattle snacks... not to mention the scorpions that would crawl out of the mailbox, down the walls, and checking your shoes to make sure they weren't living in there. I own a black car with black leather interior, do you know how comfortable that was to get in in the middle of August? You go from your air conditioned house to air conditioned car. Nobody goes outside to do anything, and I remember going to watch a football game in November... NOVEMBER! and people were dripping in sweat. All I could think about was a crisp Ohio fall day.

Stuck in Ohio or Content?
I just moved back to Ohio from Florida this week. Florida to say the least, is overrated. It's hard to explain. I lived outside of Gainesville, Florida's ultimate college town. I even thought Gainesville was too chainy for me. Florida cities outside of Miami lack any real cool neighborhoods and hipster areas. I did my freshmen year in Cleveland, and couldn't begin to describe how much I missed a REAL city. I think so many Ohioans have the grass is greener mentality. I certainly did. I couldn't wait to leave. It took my living outside of the state for over a year to realize how good I had it here. Also, Ohioans see Florida as always sunny and the beaches. Let me tell you how boring and overrated all that is. While living in Florida's "ultimate college town", I can't even begin to tell you how many of my friends who were native Floridians were looking to move out of Florida. If you are not in tourism or construction, you better look elsewhere basically. Miami is nice if you speak spanish. Tampa, Orlando, and Jacksonville are nice if you like the mall, Applebees, and freeways that lead for miles in every direction. The great thing about the United States is we can move wherever we want, and everybody looks at every place very subjectively. I was just talking to my dad last night about how overrated Florida was and why I left. My stepmom who only looks at weather as a driving force of people moving things Florida is heaven. It's hard to explain to Ohioans how underrated it is here because they think it is so much better everywhere else. I have noticed Ohio has a big boomerang effect. A lot of people (myself included) move away thinking it is so much better elsewhere, and come back because it was actually much better here. I am content with Ohio now until I finish school. But I have my eyes on Philadelphia as a place I would really enjoy moving to.

Cleveland: Crime & Safety Discussion
I guess that is where I am thinking things seem like they have got out of control lately. I recieve a bunch of alerts from CSU as of late about people being robbed at gunpoint, laptops being stolen, etc and I never remember it being that bad when I was there my freshmen year.

Youngstown-Warren: General Business & Economic News
Hey everyone! Finally made the big move back to Ohio yesterday. It's good to be back home. On that note... I woke up this morning and found the Vindicator sitting on my front porch to see some more new jobs coming to the area. Didn't know if it was an old paper or not, but it was from today. More and more good news out of the Valley. I know it is the holidays, but traffic in Boardman/Poland/Canfield area seems busier than I remember it in years past. http://www.vindy.com/news/2011/dec/20/m-shale-spurred-project-to-bring--jobs/?newswatch
